in my experience as little it my be, I've found that the clear plastics are more fragile than opaque plastics, I prefer bics myself because I found them more durable, thank you for the great video

back when I smoked I had a lighter, not Bic, explode in a cigarette box in my jeans pocket. a coworker was turning the steering wheel to drive away in the customers car and a pebble shot up and hit my leg, making a large popping sound. the customer looked at me and said "what was that?". I said, my pants exploded with a confused look on my face. it was a weird experience. I only carry Bic now. lol also no smokes 6 1/2 years now! yeah

You did not complete the dis-assembly - I've dis-assembled BIC and other lighters hundreds of times (to recover the rare earth flints) I can also say the nozzles in the BICs are larger gold plated and a powder metallurgy product - it non-magnetic so maybe a tungsten carbide with a monel metal binder - quite interesting - the other lighter has a multiple component nozzle (polymers and rubber O-ring) and appears to be made of the same materials only smaller. Lover the longer BIC flints - made mostly of cerium, lanthanum and sometimes silver addition.

If I have to dismantle and precision scale weigh each individual component to make it in a survival situation, I have way more problems than what brand of lighter I bought, like the fact I don't smoke so I don't carry one on me. They stay in a drawer in my house, and if I have access to them I will also have access to everything else in my house more appropriate to use for me to live through a non-apocalyptic emergency event/situation.

On a burnt out bic.hold your thumb over where the fire comes out and pump the red button several times while shaking it. You get a small flame the first couple of times. I know. I'm an ex smoker. LaLaLa

Just take the metal wind guard off when it stops lighting. You will get a few more strikes after removing that. And it's a lot easier to do that than what you suggested
@thomaspigg3068 жыл бұрын
FYI: The flint in the BIC is a harder composite than the flint in the Scripto and the weight difference in the striker wheels is as you've seen, the Scripto wheel uses "additional" wheel pieces on the sides. This is suppose to be a "child proof" lighter. It requires more downward pressure on the wheel to turn it than the BIC. I, as you, like the BIC better simply due to the fact that the silver colored "gas nozzle discharge orifice" is a thicker and sturdier metal. If you carry a set of some kind of metal snips in your bug out bag, you can make a better fishing hook from it. There's numerous reasons to like one over the other, and as you've stated, it all comes down to a matter of personal preference. Thanks for the video. I thought I'd just interject my "two cents worth" for additional knowledge to those that might read this. Have A Happy..... !!!!!!!!

The flint in bic lighters almost lasts forever too bad they don’t just make them with a refill valve.

The oval shape increases the strength so that a thinner inner wall does not decrease the structure strength

kinda looks like the Bic holds more fuel. also with one flame setting I think you would get a more reliable flame and the fuel would last better

Flint differences in this video are somewhat skewed because of differences in their usage. Comparing only matters if brand new unused or if used they need same number quantity of strikes for length/duration of flame/fuel usage. The bic could have been used in few flint strikes but extended flame/fuel usage like lighting a fire pit that doesn't want to catch quickly, causing it to be out of fuel and having barely any flint wearing. Then the other could have been used to light candles and be 15+ years old and used many times with minimal fire/fuel usage, and being close to using up its flint before running out of fuel. I get that quality/size differences in comparison with single unit to different brand single units, but 2 bic at 2$ vs 7 of the scrypto for 2$, and both are good reliable devices, do you really get so much more from the 2 total bic or the 7 total scrypto? I personally am a fan of the metal flame butane and electric spark lighters or the torch type for extra power if needed, but disposables work just as well at lightning candles.

@HomeLander35 жыл бұрын
you can refill bic lighter too
@NJLev5 жыл бұрын
Habib Red Bics are not designed to be refilled. You gotta get a poker, a stopper, electric tape/rubber gasket and the butane. You need the whole junk drawer for something that’s supposed to take 5 seconds. For a clipper all you need is the butane. Refilling bics is dumb. Just take the flint out when it runs out of gas and save them for your clipper.
@HomeLander35 жыл бұрын
@@NJLev am addicted to them, if refilling them would take more than the whole junk drawer, i would still collect and refille them

Hey, thanks for sacrificing your two lighters to show us the guts. It was fascinating to learn how they work. I did not realize that the Scripto have that little lever to adjust the flame height. I ordered a few Clipper refillable lighters from Amazon. They are made in Spain and are the "standard" lighter in Europe. Clipper claims to have a superior product by virtue of the fact that they are refillable and that the body is made of vinyl rather than plastic; supposedly withstands heat better. Who knows? Thanks for the video.

I wonder how people Bic has help start smoking?
@rottnlove4 жыл бұрын
How many smokers have you ever met that can successfully and consistently have the same disposable lighter from purchase to paid-out, without it getting stolen by another smoker or losing/washing it before it was empty? Lighters are the honorary cousin of lip balms, idk anyone who has ever start to finish a chapstick without having to buy another one to replace it before ever making it to the bottom of the tube. I don't smoke but someone else always steals my disposable lighters, and for the lip balm I have less worry of anyone using and taking it but I have only ever made it to the bottom of one single tube without losing/having to replace it in my entire life.
