Except they still have USB 2.0, an LCD 1080p screen, and a notch the size of California. My S8, which is more than a year old now, has USB 3.0, an AMOLED 1440p screen, and no notch. Literally the only thing that beats the S8 is the processor and RAM. And IMO that doesn't mean a whole lot. "Oh yeah, I can open Instagram 0.04 seconds faster than you hahaha". Give me a break. OnePlus's phones were good at first, when they literally offered flagship specs for less, when everyone had 1080p LCD screens and USB 2.0, but now they have their head in the sand and can't make a good phone that is actually worth the $500 pricetag they advertise.
@shockwave22916 жыл бұрын
LegionNate OP6 has an AMOLED screen too. 1080p screen is still acceptable in 2018, don't really understand why you need QHD res in a budget priced phone. Notch is subjective, but it's not "the size of California" and is smaller than most notch-designs in the market. He never said OnePlus doesn't make compromises to lower the price, USB 3.0 is one of them. Better processor and RAM does mean a lot when Android is continually updated in the future and adds more features that will require more processing. Also Multitasking. Speaking of updates, the OP6 will be one of the first phones to get Android P, how long will Samsung take to update your S8?

I own a Oneplus 6 128 GB. I had a Note 8, switched to Pixel 2xl, and now OnePlus 6. I prefer this phone over Note 8, and it's not even close. For me, speed and fluidity are the most important aspect of a phone, and Samsung just can't get that right. I prefer the Oneplus 6 over the Pixel. I think this phone is even faster than Pixel 2. Speaker works for me, and camera is very good. OnePlus has better battery, and face unlock is fantastic, and I like the screen better. Only thing I miss on Pixel 2 xl is camera.

And the camera? The op6 has a camera that is on par with the s9+ and specially if you consider the manual mode,and although the op6 lacks the telephoto lens but nobody really uses the telephoto lens that much... I like dave a lot but i just can't agree with him on that... According to me there is not even a single way for s8+ or s8 to beat the op6.... Battery backup, performance, camera, reliability everything is much better on the op6....

I feel like oneplus is the company that understands their fan base, the enthusiasts. for where they make compromises (for the price), are places that, for people who buys oneplus phones, knows they don't mind. I'm a college student in toronto, double major in neuro and psych. I don't need top notch camera, I don't use the speakers and if I do, i'd rather bluetooth it to my google home. wireless charging is a gimmick for me. the dash charge is way more essential if I had to pick one or another. I'm really familiar with tech so I don't require (as much as apple) support for my phone. but in the case of my parents, they need apple's support system, the genius bar, the tutorial sessions, etc etc. for what this device offers, I can use to the fullest extent, the fast processing power to run my games while not lagging out when multitasking in the background. the fast and user-friendly OS updates (second to pixel I believe). the face-unlock that's fast and speedy. (I'm a college student, not a the POTUS, the world won't end if my phone is insecure). In comparison, my father uses apple devices for banking and stock management. yet he keeps an android as a daily driver. I want to make it clear; I state my profile and my opinions as subjective. which serves as evidence to my point: *copy-and-paste my first sentence*

I think its fair to say that the phone isn't that great a value for the price. For every reason you said you liked the phone there are several devices at that price point that would fit the bill. Yes, if you have a preference for One Plus as a brand loyalist (I hate using the word fanboy, because I'm not trying to say it's a bad thing), obviously this is the device for you. But for most people who don't care about the brand of the device, it doesn't seem to make that much sense anymore.

I think Asus Zenfone 5Z is a pretty strong contender too. SD845, dual camera (secondary cam is ultra-wide A-la LG), stereo speakers, microSD slot (hybrid slot tho), and it's definitely one of the great-looking device out there (albeit the inclusion of strong 'copycat' feel). It costs like $470 here in Indonesia. Whereas mi8 and 1+6 aren't officially available and consequently, more expensive (like around $680, which is the territory of S8+, V30). The screen is 'only' IPS, however. But nowadays they are great enough for casual day-to-day use.

Just recently subscribed to your channel after seeing you on Unbox Therapy and I love the honesty man. I've seen at least a handful of various tech reviewers make videos on the OnePlus phones over the years and I was still impressed that you shared an insight with a different view than what I have seen before. I've been considering purchasing a OnePlus phone and you didn't sway me one way or the other, but you gave me something to think about. You're right that people are considering the comparison of the OnePlus to a used flagship phone and not just other brand new phones. Also, the fact that it's only available on T-mobile/At&t, etc.
@MorganRisch6 жыл бұрын
You're so hyperbolic. Everything is wayyyy better or wayyyy worse. You never refer to anything as marginally better or worse which is how it is in reality. Like the OnePlus 6 has a great camea, yes not as good as the pixels and the iPhones of the world but in reality you'd be really really hard pressed to say that the OnePlus 6 is worse than other phones in most lighting conditions. And you refer to the s8 as wayyyy better which is COMPLETELY subjective. But, subjective or not I really don't see where you form this opinion. Really the only thing better about the s8 is the screen (marginally) and the camera (marginally). The software is subjective, but I'd argue it's better as well the Samsung UX may have more features but in terms of stability, performance, design, and updates OOS is actually wayyyy better, and this is objectivly true not just subjective. Also, you say OP support isn't great so clearly you haven't recently interacted with their customer support or are just holding on to the old stigma because OP's support is class leading for remote support, better than all but Apple IMHO. I typically love your videos but this one was just sloppy and misinformed.

Abhishek Saral I wish I could show it to you, mate. iPhone X is my daily driver and it unlocks during the night just as fast as it does in good lighting conditions. Especially since iOS 11.3 it works like a charm. You could try suggesting your friends to reset their Face ID and set it up again. Because unlike Samsung and OP phones, iPhone X doesn’t use the camera lens instead uses the infrared sensor, the dot projector, and the flood illuminator to authenticate so there isn’t a difference even if you use it in zero lighting conditions. I would’ve been complaining like crazy if it didn’t work as advertised since I invested over a $1000 to purchase it.😏

A few weeks ago I went from an S8+ to an OP6. I didn't regret it for a second yet. The OP6 just obliterates the S8 when it comes down to speed. Once you get used to the OP6 and you'd take an S8/S8+ in your hands again you would understand what I mean. Build quality of the OP6 is really good just like the S8+. The batterylife of the OP6 is better regardless of a slightly smaller battery. The software of the OP6 suits me more because of the simple yet efficient mods, the raw power and high amount of ram is ideal if you are a hardcore user like me. The S8+ will lag eventually when you do too many stuff at the same time whereas the OP6 never slows down. Back camera of the S8+ might be slightly better, but I think most will be down to the processing.. There are quite some filters you can use to edit the picture to your wishes. FF camera of the OP6 is better than the S8+. The speaker now sounds much better sinds the last OxygenOS update, definitely not worse than my S8+ and it's actually louder too. The screen of the S8+ is better, but then again there aren't many smartphonescreens on the market that beat the screen of the S8/S9. The OP6 screen is good enough, no complaints here. It's amoled and HD and bright enough, I don't need anything more. Support of OnePlus bad ? Maybe yes but also maybe no: the OnePlus team actually reads through the complaints of users and to be fair the few things I wasn't so pleased with got fixed in the latest OxygenOS update (battery percentage, autofocus problem solved, speaker problem solved). The OP6 is a MAJOR GO like Flossy Carter would say :D

Shaunak De the S8 is objectively inferior is my reason. I value software over hardware (it's a portable computer in the end), and I'm no photographer (I imagine most people aren't, and if there were, they'd be using a dslr), so don't care about the cam. OnePlus' software is undoubtedly better than Samsung's crap. The OS version it ships with is better PLUS the bootloader is unlockable, so you can flash whatever your heart desires. The glossy design on the S8 looks pretty cheap too; with the OP6 you at least get a matte option. The S8 has a horrible screen which distorts picture too (because the edges are bent).
@mehreally96736 жыл бұрын
Samsung`s displays are the best and majority of the people(average consumers) agree and love it. Average consumers matter more than the tech people which are the minority. As for camera, the best camera is in your pocket. If you want to get serious in the photography then buy a dslr, but as for hobby a high end flagship is your best option since it can take amazing pictures still and video. The S8 has a much better design than the OnePlus. OnePlus is just a copy of the iphone X, but it is cheaper.

These critiques help the channel and should not be blasted by useless complaints of someones opinions. If you like the format, let the KZbinr know you do and why. If you really don't like it then don't comment that you do and end up having the KZbinr making videos in a way you don't actually enjoy.

You really hit the nail with this video! Agree on almost everything you said - and glad you brought up the perspective from a Non-US market. Here in Sweden the price difference between OP6 and s9 is so much bigger than what it is in the US. Even though I still own a s9, I'd give oneplus kudos for having a consistent pricing globally. Hate that Samsung charges so much less for the s9 in the US and so much more in Europe. Although Samsung support in Sweden Atleast is excellent. You can hand your phone in and get it back within hours.

I actually really liked this video. I mean, I've been really thinking about buying the OnePlus 6 for a while now but I haven't seen other reviews that actually compare it to most well known brands, I've been a Samsung user ever since smartphones came out and I'm not entirely sure whether switching to another brand would be a good decision, and this video actually put things in perspective for me especially when you actually used it to shoot the video. The only drawback was that we couldn't actually see an example of the smoothness of the OS but I guess there are other videos out there for that. Anyway, my opinion is that for the price of $500, I guess it's better to get an actually new phone that's way above average rather than a better phone that's used or refurbished. But I guess that opinion would vary from person to person, but that's my take on it anyway. Thanks for the video Dave, really helped a lot with my decision making. :)

If you really want a OP6 go for it, it has gone a long way since OP2 so its a huge uprade... if you want to use it without a case go for midnight black bc mirror black is easier to scratch or get your fingerprints all over it...with that said i think the white or mirror black look better

@skewy216 жыл бұрын
Yeah go for it I have a OP6 128gb Mirrorblack since launch and it's great if you want a reliable phone (and if you live in Europe it's even better because you cant get something comparable in that price range) and the glass doesn't scartch but for safety use the included case
@twizzbharat25776 жыл бұрын
UltraLike I would go for it if I was you mate, a large upgrade in my option. I have the 128gb midnight black OnePlus 6 and it's absolutely freaking amazing! I think midnight black is definitely the way to go as fingerprints are less noticeable however the phone is EXTREMELY slippery so use the case included! I hope this helps! :) 😀

One of the unintended use of Oneplus Face Unlock Shine is One Touch Torchlight ability. Let say you are in a dark room and you need some light. Just press power button and aims it towards direction you want to see brighten and you got 5 seconds of good lighting with just one touch.

This guy has no idea what he's saying. Oneplus has amazing support. Apple doesn't. There are tons of videos that show you how much of maniacs Apple are when it comes to fixing their own products. He also lied about the price. He lied because he said half the truth., which is even worse. The Oneplus 6 can be under 500 usd - around 480. Depends on where you buy it and what version of it. Also the camera is amazing. I've seen videos of it, reviews of it, and a professional photographer talking about it. Its no less than the iPhoneX or Galaxy S9 camera. It's the smoothest android phone you can get, maybe except for the OP5/OP5t. Why take whats OP is best at and just say it's not that? The title is why I like the Oneplus 6 but he sounds like he hates it and he lies a lot about it. Too bad.

I think it is an interesting option. The only thing that sticks out quite a bit is that you are less comfortable than if you're doing your classic behind the desk thing. But you should keep doing this! Like do 60 % of the video behind desk and then 40 % off desk. Or maybe every 4th - 5th video would be kind of experimental, doing something new, new location, new way, new point of view. This video was kind of less smooth than other ones but it was enjoyable to see you do it differently and if you keep doing this some of the time than you get better at being comfortable off-desk doing these experimental shots. Anyway hope you'll be doing it!

You can actually get a GS8 on Best Buy for $550 on Best Buy right now. It's a great deal and Honestly, I think I'd rather that over the OnePlus 6. I never wanted to get an S9 because I never took interest in the very marginal updates they brought to the table. The GS8 is a great phone for the price now.

@JustSomeGuy0096 жыл бұрын
That price after a carrier deal where I have to "add a line" or some other restrictions? Everything I've seen for me to get an S8 unlocked or on T-Mobile (preferably the plus since that compares to the OP6 better) requires adding lines. Which means the price isn't what is advertised. And most of them are for 64GB and 4GB of ram models instead of what I would get with a OP6 of 128GB/8GB model.
@VanquishR6 жыл бұрын
You can get it unlocked at $600 and that 64GB can be upgraded with MicroSD card expansion. I do agree that the 4GB RAM part is a downside but I feel like the upsides are worth more than just that one part. Better screen, camera, build, and speakers. However, I will be missing the OnePlus OxygenOS and alert slider. There are always tradeoffs.

Shaunak De better hardware, better software better community, better build quality, better face and fingerprint (on the s8 is the worst thing of the 2017) unlock, slide alert, and again no lagwiz.
@ShaunakDe6 жыл бұрын
CoolBlooded Leaving the community aside, so the main reason is the software experience and biometrics you would say? These are things you can't discover in a store right, and that's exactly what no reviewer talks about. For most people like me, I don't think the processor makes that much of a difference, maybe the RAM to keep more apps open. But to me the S8 has a better camera. But if everything else sucks, maybe I'm better getting a cheap phone and a pocket camera...

imo mi8 is overall the better choice here. sure oos is fast n everything conpared to miui, but mi8 still wins my money. miui is lot smooth and fast now compared to earlier versions, it also has proper face id senaors that can't be easily fooled with a photo like the op6. the camera is also better on the mi8. ppl prefers oneplus bcz youtubers promote them all over the world, whereas xiaomi doesn't do much promotion. and ofc xiaomi copies everything from apple but for the mi8 it copied the good things. and the mi8 costs cheaper than the op6 too. i mean what more do u want.. btw I'm not a xiaomi fan, I'm using op5 myself but this time I'm gonna get the mi8 bcz overall it's better than op6.

Need to look into the mii8, but faceid unlock is only in the special edition nmodep I believe. The other thing I'm not sure about is cellular bands. I need all T-Mobile bands (including the new band 71) and the OP6 has that and is one of only a few that does. I looked at the mix 2s and it doesn't have it. They need to actually support the US region before I can really consider them as an option.

the reason i love Oneplus is that its a straight forward experience that is fast, smooth and has many user focused features to make the user experience great, you will only understand this if you get past the hardware omissions it has (which are there for good reason that is why it is much cheaper brand new than other flagships) and actually use it then you will realize that for that price you are getting an actually really good phone.

Ali ASH TV Just bought a op6, there's at least a 200 pound difference and even if they were equally priced I'd be unsure, Samsung has so much unnecessary software and for the cheaper model it doesn't beat the op6 in performance for intense games on the better model (as it's only £500) . I'm not a massive camera guy and I am fine with this display as it's a very good one. I just don't see why I'd spend 200 more on a few upgrades.

A mid range phone does not become high end just because of the processor and ram. Not to mention the trust issues with oneplus software and support. Oneplus is so overhyped because of these sponsor videos.

I am very happy that you pointed out exactly how I felt about this device.Other KZbinrs would promote it too much ... but honestly, your review is 99% accurate. What I would add is this: The built-in storage is VERY VERY slow!! (when you download apps or anything it takes VERY long) Dose does not have an expandable storage. Call quality is low. THE SPEAKER IS BAD. SUPPORT is the WORST ... if you see there is something wrong with your phone, For example, my screen stopped working. I called in CS and said if they can repair it WITHIN the 30 days (Warranty) they asked for 35$ shipping to a repair facility and I will have to cover up the cost of repair still! The good, SOLID daily driver BATTERY is THE BEST!

I think you're underscoring the Oxygen OS. I haven't used a Pixel, but I have used Nexus phones, and while they were smooth and zippy the first 6 months or so, they started to get unbearably laggy. I've had the OP5 for almost a year now and the performance is still top notch. The overall experience on this phone and probably the 6, outweighs it's shortcomings compared to a Galaxy phone.

I wish reviewers would preface the one plus brand as a $500 phone as $500 usd. That makes a big difference for Canadians because the oneplus 6 is $699 for the base model from the oneplus website. Given this, the $500 moniker only applies to the USD currency and therefore is kind of a shock when a non-US buyer is shopping around for the oneplus 6. I really found Dave's addition to the discussion about second-hand devices a plus. If i look on ebay, i can find quite inexpensive phones like a used LG V30 (9/10 exterior) for ~$550 Canadian. If i were choosing to spend the money, I would absolutely choose the used V30 over the oneplus 6.
