@IQDontMiss We can't say that for certain. Maya was going to SoCal and Zig was staying in Toronto, so it's hard to say if they wanted to pursue a long distance relationship. Plus, they weren't officially back together at the end, and might want to stay just close friends. Not to mention, we haven't seen what they're like together as a couple after all of the changes between seasons 2-4 of NC whereas Eli and Clare spent half of season 14 as a pair before leaving.

They really grew on me after they got back together. Their first go around was toxic and unhealthy, though understandably so considering Eli's issues. After he got help and Clare accepted her stepfamily and got calmed down, they were much better. They just needed to mature

I have mix-feelings about Eli and Claire. I was cheering them on but there were times I was like run Claire run. I think when he managed his bipolar he got a lot better. The reason I cheered them on is because you can tell they genuinely loved each other. And if it wasn't for Eli's bipolar it could work. But they were off and on like it was ridiculous.

I love EClare! The first time I saw Eli I was like: OMG I LOVE ELI! And also Clare. Especially after she starts to get more comfortable in HS. (Plus I can relate to Clare. I felt that she was sheltered prior to going to Degrassi and I've been there before.) Also about Eclare: I loved their drama! And I was invested in their whole story the most out of all of the other characters! (Well mostly out of the newer cast- after the OG of DTNG.)

I think Clare gets a lot of hate in the show for sleeping with Drew and getting pregnant, but I don't think it's fair. I think Drew's involvement was very brushed aside (especially by Eli). The characters also brush Eli's cheating aside and forget that he's the one who cheated. Clare never cheated; she slept with Drew after she left the break-up voicemail for Eli. I understand Eli being upset and while he handled it poorly, I understand that too. It'd be hard for most full-grown adults to handle such a situation, and these characters are just 17-18 years old. Ultimately, being a teenager is hard and throwing relationships in there just makes it even harder, and mistakes are made. Eclare was able to survive because they had the dedication to and love for each other to keep trying, even after they hit roadblocks.

That's fair. Their on/off-ness is the worst part about them, and the point that makes me think there's a chance they won't last. Clare and Drew were pretty good, but they never really rang true for me personally. They felt too manufactured.

I came into TNG with only the knowledge that if I watched it as a preteen and teen, I would have had a MASSIVE crush on Eli and written tons of fanfic. However, actually watching it made me LOVE Eclare. Despite my feelings of Clare flip flopping over time, I was 100% on board with the two of them being together and making it through everything. Its so good. I loved your video. So good.

I made a separate comment thread for this but I also am not a big fan of either character although Eli is a little more likeable for me than Clare. I think Eli was kinda misogynistic in his treatment of female characters after he got better and certainly before and he almost kinda viewed them as either his property, someone to put on a pedestal, or completely disposable. I also noticed he had a tendency to talk down to others, and was kind of smarmy whenever they didn’t see things exactly as he did, and he was very prone to going to the jugular but other than that he wasn’t so awful. Clare wasn’t awful either but I wasn’t a big fan of Clare either. Clare was super inconsistent and she was judgemental but in a weird way. One of her best qualities was she was able to accept others for who they are, LGBT or whatever else but she also had a tendency to judge others who couldn’t quite measure up to her standards. She kind of assumed Drew was dumb because she didn’t know him all that well, she assumed Zoe was a bitch without meeting her. Clare has a tendency to just assume the worst about other people and look down upon them. And yes she was also very worst case scenario driven and that also irritated me. I also think the writers kind of just wrote her character super inconsistently.

Nothing wrong with not liking them as people. Not everyone will get along with everyone. With Eli, it wasn't that he was misogynistic but that he was like Esme and was afraid of losing people he loved while seeing everyone else as meaningless. He would let himself get so wrapped up in the people he cared about that he felt it was his duty to keep them safe and prevent them from leaving as that was akin to dying for Eli. I could actually picture him doing the same to guys if he was gay. And, this intense obsession with his partners made him view practically everyone else as an enemy. He always had to be wary lest someone were to steal away the person of his affection. Like Esme, extremely unhealthy and thank goodness he got help. With Clare, I struggle to see where the inconsistency comes in. Not every morally minded person is bigotted about sexual orientations or gender identities just as being accepting of them means you are tolerant of every kind of person. To be fair, Drew really wasn't very smart, and her perception of Zoe came from Ali and Jenna who roomed with her in Paris. Sure it's better to meet someone before you decide what they're like most of the time, but she was still pretty spot on with Drew. He just so happened to also be a mostly decent person, hence her falling for him.

They were my favorite Degrassi couple as well!! These were all my reasons for loving them as well. Though I’m realizing that my love for them as a couple who were on/off again might have had a hand subconsciously in being on/off again with a long term ex so not sure how to cope with that one. But overall Eclare melts my heart

I'm binging all of your degrassi videos. I fell in love with Imogeli when I was 12 cause I wanted to see the most quirky/eccentric people together and it made me sad I barely had it because of Eclare and Fimogen, but also the toxicity that it was and Imogen was like "actually no!" Which was kinda ..... interesting. I think I saw myself in Imogen and I had those obsessive crushes like Eli. The writers said that they were kinda suppose to be like Harley Quinn and Joker and I think that wouldve been a REALLY REALLY relatable and PERFECT plotline because I know so many hs girls (myself included) who lose themselves in their partners over a while and they have an emancipation and find who themselves are. It seems like Imogen always knew who she was which is awesome but.... how many high schoolers have that? I guess I just couldnt relate to Clare. She gives me Rory Gilmore vibes but with Lorelais outward fire (if you've watched Gilmore girls you know what I mean lol)

Yeah, I def fell for Imogen and Eli for their quirkiness that maturity and years of reflection have revealed to be less silliness and more toxicity. I think Eli and Imogen were very Harley and Joker, especially considering how Imogen was far more invested in Eli than he was in her. She was willing to go along with his wild antics with the expectation that they'd end with her and Eli together. But, as often shown in dissections of the JokerxHarley dynamic, Joker/Eli didn't really care about her. It was always about something else be it Batman or Clare. It was never going to work out in early season 11 because their relationship was inherently unhealthy. Neither were in a good mental space to care about the other. For Eli, his emotions were tossing him every which way and altering how he viewed reality. For Imogen, she thought that she could manipulate and just throw herself hard enough at Eli to make him care about her. But that's not how you become loved.

I think the hype surrounding the ship is a huge part of why so many people, including myself, don't love it and that most of our other reasons came after the annoyance. Past that any issues I have with the relationship or the characters as individuals usually isn't at fault of the characters, but how long the show chose to keep them on as fan service. Having followed Flare since her geeky little sister days and then having to follow Eli after he went to college, it just got to be a little much sometimes if that makes sense. For me, I guess, sometimes less is more.

I never saw it as fan service, especially because Eli really only stuck around because of Clare. If she had graduated with Eli, then I think it's fairly certain we wouldn't have heard from either again. I can see the hype outside of the show being annoying, though it doesn't personally bother me as I encountered the couple long before I discovered fan forums discussing them.

I didn’t like Eclare because they were very toxic to each other. I think they brought out the worst in each other. Their good parts were very good, but I think part of what made Clare her best self was she was independent and self confident and I think in her relationship with Eli she was always super codependent on Eli, and vice versa. I also think that the two of them were prone to just being nasty to each other whenever things weren’t peachy and I don’t think that’s healthy at all. Additionally I think Eli had a tendency to not be his best self around Clare either and he went from this level headed guy who was always thoughtful to being this guy who made irrational decisions and overall I think the two of them experienced more growth as people apart and never really grew together, and in general relationships should help you change positively and grow, not negatively and bring out the worst in you like Eclare had a tendency to do.

I don't see how Eli was a misogynist. While putting your partner on a pedestal is unhealthy, I don't think he treated her that way because she was a woman or girl. He treated her that way because Eli was dependent on her. I don't remember Claire being dependent on Eli. You have to remember Eli was afraid to lose her. Not only because of his bipolar disorder but because of the tragic death of his ex girlfriend. He did not want to be alone. Eli had issues because of his last relationship and his bipolar disorder.

Here's a reason why I think a hearty portion of people don't like claire is that the show made her the lead after Emma left. People don't like change. An Claire was a transitional bridge character from 8-9 season when the show switched from tng to just degrassi.

@@NotAVampyre yes I agree personally. I think the show doesn't really have leads most of the time. They have nexus or focus characters but not leads. But I wasn't taking about how I feel, i was talking about how i think others may feel an i think I'm a ok judge of the human psychology. I could be wrong and I maybe but I dnt think so. But nexus characters for sure happen in this show. An when I mean nexus character I'm referring to someone who seems to always have a story line, or is on screen the most even if not the main story lead , or a character who seems to be able to float between the groupings of characters an interact with most everyone in the cast some how.

I used to like them mostly because everyone else liked them,but looking back I would HATE to be in a relationship like Eli and Clare's. Their story telling was great and by audience point of view you would think "awww they're so cute", but they had that together forever we're meant to be mentality that became really toxic. I started to like their relationship when he started turning himself around and stuff, but there was always something wrong. I admit they did have their good moments, but their relationship seemed dysfunctional to me. It's like one can't live without the other. What made me see them as unhealthy was the Clare was pregnant with Drew's baby situation. There was a part where Eli lashed out at Drew while Clare was there. I think this was outside the dot. It made me see how I could never be in a healthy like there's. It's was too unhealthy for me, but that's just my opinion.

Eclare is OTP for everything over any show, BUT. I was obsessed with Eli and dating someone like him as a young teen. Im talking Pre-diagnosis Eli. I got one and ended up in a abusive relationship at 14. So growing up I was SO happy to see him get better and it work out in the end. I wish we would have gotten a real conclusion though.

I loved Eclare because they were the first couple I saw when I first got into the Degrassi back in 2010 when season 10 started. I always did like Eli, but I must admit that for the longest time I denied and romanticized his mental health problems and Clare had every reason to break up with him. that being said, I didn't like how she progressively got whinier and more problematic as the seasons went. It was very selfish of her to get angry that Eli was moving on completely from her and had no emotions for her, as it seemed like she wanted nothing to do with him. It was a big step backward in her character development, and idk where the writers decided to go off the rails by making everything around her come crashing down, but I'm glad that they gave Eli enough character development and moments and episodes where he could grow as a character and move on from his teen angst crap, where I'm ultimately happy where his character ended up and how he turned out to be by season 12 and 13. The reason I and probably many people don't like Clare is because she got whiny from season 11 forward. after breaking up with Eli, she should have just moved on and focused on herself but she couldn't help but think about him, and that hindered her character development.

This will be part of my Clare video, but her feelings about Eli seeming to feel nothing about the break up was neither selfish nor a step back in her character. We must remember the emotional roller coaster that she had experienced with Eli the previous semester. Constantly she had to keep up with trying to make Eli feel secure and having to deal with his obsession over her and Fitz. Then after she does the healthy thing and end the relationship after him literally crashing a car for her, he has nothing to say? Just pretending as though she doesn't exist? To Clare, it felt like another manipulation, or at least one last slap in the face suggesting all of the turmoil she experienced was for nothing. That he never loved her and was just taking her feelings for him for a joyride. Especially considering how a lot of their relationship was helping him get over Julia, it felt like his sudden lack of interest in Clare meant that he was never serious about Clare. All of her pain was over a guy who didn't even care about her enough to be sad over their break up. Clare didn't want him to try to win her back. She wanted to be at least cordial with Eli in the halls even if they were never friends again. And she did move on from Eli. After Jake helped her realize that she couldn't make Eli feel anything towards their history and all that was left was to let herself just push forward with her own life, she did. Eli only re-entered the picture when Clare was assigned to cover his play, and even then she kept arm's length away. It was when he cast Jake in the play and possibly was intending to harm him when she tried to meddle with Eli's work. Clare knew what Eli did to FItz. Who was to say he wouldn't do anything to Jake? Clare did move on. It was only long after both were leading their own lives that the pair reunited.

@@NotAVampyre I'll have to see your Clare video, I really want you to change my mind about her😁 you made a lot of good points but there are just some things we're going to have to agree to disagree on. thank you for giving me insight on Clare's point of view of how she felt about Eli during season 11 and I definitely understand where she and you are coming from. when Clare broke up with Eli and left him at the hospital in season 10, it seems like she was washing her hands of him and that's why besides the medication, he was completely ignoring her and pretending that she didn't exist and having no emotionality for her because he was trying to give her what she thought she wanted or what he think he needed or what he interpreted to be their relationship, which was none, that they were to not acknowledge each other. I'm not saying that it was right, I'm just saying how it could be interpreted and I do get Clare's feelings and i understand why she has them and she's entitled to have them. I just think screaming "did you even love me at all" was just taking it too far, like calm down, drama queen. (even though I'm fully aware of your previous comments about Clare and potentially other characters being drama queens😂) it could be interpreted that she was being insensitive towards him but as you just eloquently stated, his attitude towards her could also be interpreted the same way. I feel like Cake is its own can of worms and you should make a video on it, and also one on Imogen, cause Eclare fans did not like her in season 11.

I adored season 11 Imogen for the sames reasons I loved season 10 and 11 Eli. It's not hard to understand how she can get under some people's skin, but I find her and her actions very interesting. Cake is another one of those couples that are widely hated or ragged on that I simply don't mind. It was a good experience for both characters, especially Clare in coming to terms with her drastically changing home life.

(Disclaimer: its been a while since I’ve watched those seasons) I’m leaving this comment before I really get into the video- I REALLY disliked Eclare, first of all because I disliked them both individually. I liked Clare pre-season 10, after that she became the absolute worst in my opinion, so unlikable and I can see the appeal in Eli but I don’t like the way he talks or behaves. Also, I don’t think they were good for each other. This relationship was in a way all about obsession, Clare couldn’t focus on anything else but Eli and he didn’t help, crashing his car and what not. Yeah yeah I know, bi-polar and all that, it doesn’t change the fact that it was toxic. They are just gonna keep making each other miserable, breaking up and getting back together and at some point no one will care anymore, Ally will have her own thing going on and I’m pretty sure Jenna never cared, Clare will remain friendless because of her never ending obsession with Eli. At least Eli will make a movie about it.

Eli and Claire are there but not really my cup of tea. Putting aside that the couples are not why I watch this show in the first place. But I don't feel they learned their lessons about they boasted to by the end, at least when one was caught in a mess the other made. Much like many Soap couples. They're challenged, make mistakes, some that anyone could avoid. Like Claire mistaking Drew for the Father and claiming it without proof. Or how about when Eli would deny Claire the opportunity for explanations about the father. Yes, they are young, and they make mistakes. They have chemistry and the actors have history, but other pairings compel me than they do.

I think Eclare is an example of how TV writers confuse genuine love with obsession and codependency, particularly with straight couples. This couple is way too overdramatic for me to take either of them seriously.

I'd struggle to take them seriously too if they weren't dramatic is basically everything they do. They are both dramatic people. I can see their continual getting back together being obsession, though not as bad as others that I've seen. But this feature of their relationship could pose problems in the future.

They were so good together, but I jus don’t like Clare💀 like idk what about her irritates me😭 but Eclare was the BEST couple of the entire degrassi universe. Their development was so great.
