Yeah. The hiatus is rather crushing. It's nice that they're posting more episodes to their KZbin channel, but the wait is bring up some unpleasant questions like will the actors be aged out of their roles by the time the show comes back?

Thanks! It's always hard to tell what's intentional and what wasn't. But in a show like Degrassi where they pack so much information into every shot, I guess I wouldn't be surprised if this was a thought.

I wouldn't say Ashley has a chameleon style because her look seems to change based on her internal state rather than lumping onto others. She seems more in line with the stereotypical "going through a phase" style than being influenced by her lovers.

Loved this video!! I didn’t really put much though into it until I went back and re-watched some old episodes and wow, Imogen looked so different! I think you made a perfect analysis of her fashion transitions :) I feel sometimes viewers get attached to specific looks and tend to forget that it’s realistic for high-schoolers to experiment with styles before finding their own. I know a lot of people complain about how the show “changed” Eli for instance... as if every single person who had an emo phase at 15 then had to commit to it for the rest of their lives? I know one of my best friends used to dress like Eminem’s little brother when we started high school, and by the end of it he was a proper business-major wearing button-downs every day. People grow up, style evolves. Imogen’s style through her run on the show always felt organic to me, it was always her. Great video!

Thanks! I think the "Eli Emo No More" criticism comes from people forgetting what it was to be that age or not connecting to the character. As you say, high school is a lot of trying to find your image and culture. Emo worked for Eli at the time. But as he started getting healthier and let go of a lot of things that weighed him down, he found that style no longer really fit him and transitioned to semi punk wear. Of course, this isn't to say that you only dress emo because you're facing hard times or unhealthy. I'm in a better place than I was at 15 and I still wear mainly black.

Yes, exactly. I was by no means implying that nobody can have a consistent style through the years, or that emo is by default "just a phase". I simply find it realistic that some characters will evolve their style alongside their personality, as you showed so well about Imogen here :)

I realize I'm late to the party but would love your insights on Ellies fashion throughout the show. I feel part of it is due to the show being lazy with the hair and makeup, but would love a different point of view.

I'm not really ready to call it laziness (though I think Ellie's hair change from seasons 2 to 3 was done because it was easier for the actor and crew). Instead, I'd say her changing style was more a reflection of the changing trend in emo-y looks as time went on and the development of Ellie's mental state. As her relationship with her mom improved, so did her general well-being. She still was drawn to a darker color pallet, but wasn't quite the same person who surounded herself in the abrasive emo image. She grew out of it, not because she was never truly emo, but because she stopped being someone who felt like she needed to express herself with that style.

Imogen? Yeah, I'd say she doesn't fit the bill. She's actually quite the normal teen girl when you consider why she acted the way she did with Eli and how it's not really reflective of her character later. It seems more likely that she's fairly socially conscious when if comes to trying to fit in with those she cares about, even though ahe outwardly rejects fitting in with other groups and current trends

My least favorite character ever on Degrassi. I almost cannot watch the show because of her. She was annoying frankly I think she got hired because she’s a pretty face. You’re acting was horrible. Making fish pie calling people by the first and last name and then just the style that she wore on the shit was horrible…Like the worst actress and character to ever cross the grassy halls I mean that they really need to be careful who they hire she just did not fit with the show in my opinion I took away from the great story lines that were made

Sounds like you hated her character, but you keep talking like those character writing choices were up to the actress, which were not the case. That's up to writers and costume designers.
