Speaking of the trunk, I actually used to mow lawns out of the back of my '91 before I got a truck. I took the carpet out and put a 22" mower, blower, and weed wacker back there plus the gas cans. The mower had a folding handle so the trunk would close no problem. I will admit that lifting the mower out of the deep well trunk was not the easiest but my back muscles developed. Long story short, I purchased a truck, put the carpet back in the Linc and still drive it every day. Probably should have just bought a hitch and a trailer for the Town Car but hindsight is 20/20

Thevinylking69 Yeah my ‘90 you saw in the other video gets used like that a lot, I’ve packed engines & other large parts in the trunk. I have a hitch on my ‘90 & use it to pull my car dolly, I even pulled home my 4,100lbs ‘53 Buick with it.

Wow! Did you put heavy duty springs on it or just standard replacements? If it is a factory tow package Lincoln it will have slightly larger u-joints. I've also had the deep well trunk/gas tank setup save me once before when I sank the car in some mud. The bumper was maybe an inch off the ground and if I didn't have a vertical gas tank it would have been smashed.

Thevinylking69 My ‘90 just has factory spec coil springs, it’s not a factory tow package, I added the hitch & a trans cooler. It does sink with serious weight but up to about 400lbs in the trunk it can handle, the dolly doesn’t have a lot of tongue weight so it doesn’t sink much with that.

I had a '72 Lincoln Mark IV and it had that auto dimmer on it as well, worked great!! Funny thing I didn't know of it till traveling and the brights turned off automatically and then on again as the car past, I remember thinking that's the coolest thing!, that and the 5 cigarette lighters!

Rob Smith It worked perfect for some headlights but not a lot of the modern yellow & blue headlights, that is the issue with it I think, light technology has advanced so much that it just doesn’t recognize all the different lights out there. I love the auto on/off feature on the headlights & use it always.

Love your videos. I have learned a lot. I have a 92 Cartier with 128k, which I'm restoring but can't imagine selling as I've grown quite an attachment to it. Now I'm actually considering collecting them and having 1 of each 1990s years. Peace!

Nice! I made it up to 3 at once and then sold this one and my ‘90 but I still have my ‘94 that I’ve swapped a 351W into, I must get that finished up soon. Glad you are enjoying my videos, thanks for the feedback!

Love mine too- 91 Cartier now 04/14/2020 has just at 100K miles. Collector plates here in BC. Was owned by Pianist for Peggy Lee, who rode in it many times. Never sees salty road. only Summer use here. Drove it up here in Jan 2018 from San Diego. Fantastic trip. Runs perfectly.

I say Fax when agree they’re amazing cars, if you can’t get an oldy like this one get a 2005-2011 Town Car, i own one and it’s my first car, many people laugh at it saying it’s an old man’s car but when they get to ride with me they shut up immediately and enjoy the ride (if they don’t i just drop them in the trunk).

Most of the Town Cars with the double-strip fake-chrome trim will be peeling and fading eventually....especially on the front bumper. I spent weeks restoring it only to learn it is available in rolls with the adhesive strip on the back of it and it's pretty cheap.... Just make sure you get the right diameter and make sure you get all the old glue off the bumper. Don't use any glue other than the adhesive strip because it's made to expand and contract with weather-changes. If you use something like Gorilla-glue... the chrome will expand and contract while the glue stays hard and it will fail.

I'm actually an auto body tech so I've deal with a lot of that type of trim before. I actually replaced them on my '94 but I did find the factory trim is not standard, it is around 15/16, maybe less, so standard 1' binds up in the bumper channel, thus I ended up shaving mine with a wood plane to make it fit, as a result it didn't last that long, I need to find something that is around 7/8 the next time I redo it.

Awesome video. I'm going to go look at a 91' Town Car with 230k kilometers on it this weekend. I'm a mechanics apprentice and I want something I can learn on. Owner said the car has no rust and the A/C still works! One thing I'm worried about is parts availability. Do you think this is an issue?
@CarswithNash
@CarswithNash 3 жыл бұрын
Honestly yes I was running into obsolete parts with this car, I found Rockauto was the best source for parts but there were still some switches and electrical stuff that I just couldn’t find. Also all the trim pieces on the bumpers are obsolete and they go bad. Otherwise they are pretty great cars, I have owned three of them and still have one (not this one but one just like it). Old luxury cars normally do have obsolete parts simply because they are not main stream cars, they don’t get built in the huge numbers so the aftermarket doesn’t normally cater to them as much. The easiest luxury cars to get parts for are Mercedes, not always the cheapest, but you can pretty well get anything for an old Mercedes. If you were looking for an older domestic car with great parts availability, things like Mustangs and Camaros are the way to go, you can get pretty much anything for them because they are so popular. The fox body Mustangs from the late ‘80s are a joy to own, I’ve had a few of those over the years as well.

@@CarswithNash Thanks for the info. I'll be sure to discuss this issue of parts availability with the owner of the Town Car, maybe get a few hundred off his asking price. I've seen on NAPA's website they say they have some the parts for them, But like you were saying finding electrical parts and switches are probably gonna be harder to find.

Great car. I'm moving to Ontario next April and I'm seriously thinking of getting this model or the 98-02 model. Can't decide!
@CarswithNash
@CarswithNash 7 жыл бұрын
MrClassicDoctorWho Thanks! The '98-02's are nice & affordable, although not as desired as '90-'97 models & I've heard people say not as reliable. If you do buy an '98-'02 be sure the engine light is off & it has no misfires as I've heard some of that model run had problems with insolvable misfire's. I love the classic looks of the '90-'94 personally with the straight top dash board etc. Regardless of what year you get be sure to inspect the frame rails directly behind the front wheels, particularly on the right side as the A/C drain is in that area & causes the frame to rot out. I had to repair the frame on my '90 beater Town Car I feature on the channel. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for the fast response! All good to know info for me thats for sure. In terms of the model years, if I went for a 90-97 id probably lean towards a 97 because I like the slightly sleeker look but a 93 one would be cool since its my birth year...might create a bond haha. I mainly just prefer the look of the 98-02, especially the interior although its a shame they took out the hood ornament. Basically im moving to ontario from London, UK and I'm so bored of the tiny city cars we have here with 1.4 engines and so on. Id just like a big change, and ive researched so many different cars but only the panther platform cars seem to measure up for the size and reliability. I was interested in Cadillacs too but the repair costs for the northstar V8 scare me haha
@CarswithNash
@CarswithNash 7 жыл бұрын
MrClassicDoctorWho I do like the front ends on the ‘95-‘97’s but I much prefer the interior in the ‘90-‘94, I may install the newer style front on my ‘94 Town Car one day so I can have the best of both worlds. I’m planning on featuring a Northstar powered Caddy on the channel in the future & installing a stud kit to remedy the head gasket issue so stay tuned.

Hey Matt, 7 months later and I ended up getting a 1994 signature series and I love it! I have a couple of questions for you. Where would you suggest looking for parts? They seem fairly scarce in terms of body work pieces. I’m trying to find a couple of quarter panel pieces for the corner of the wheel arch just behind the back door. The famous rusting spot! It’s not too bad at the moment but I’d like to catch it before it spreads in the Canadian winters. Also a wonderful person cracked my rear light bar. Any ideas where to go for replacement? Any help would be appreciated as I’m totally new to Canada and don’t really know where to turn haha! love the car though. So glad I got it :)

MrClassicDoctorWho I love getting feedback like this, congrats on becoming a Town Car owner. It is getting tough to locate a lot of parts for them now, you’d need to find that center light used, I’m pretty sure it is no longer made. The area that is rusted (often refered to as a “dogleg”) is not an available part but would be easy to fabricate from some 20 gauge sheet metal, I’ll warn you the rust comes from the back side & there will be more damage then what is showing on the outside. The best place I’ve found to source most parts is rockauto.com, they are in the US but they ship to Canada & the prices are worth the shipping. They also offer a range of quality options with different pricing, makes for easy shopping. For any parts I need in a rush I get them locally from Napa.

Maybe the auto-dimming system wasn't set right and you need to set it to dim at a further distance. My 88 Towncar has the same light system and it works fine.
@CarswithNash
@CarswithNash 5 жыл бұрын
Tigerfire75 I tried adjusting the sensitivity but it never did work right, it would work fine if the lights were “yellow” but the blue and ultra white sorta headlights on modern cars it was late to react to. Could be the sensor has gone bad over the years, who knows.

Any problem with the trunk getting filled with water after it rains?
@CarswithNash
@CarswithNash 5 жыл бұрын
Thomas Perez Nope, I’ve owned 3 of these cars and never had that issue. Check around your tail lights, they can get clogged with leaves where they drain and if the seals aren’t perfect they’ll leak. I’ve seen leaky back windows flood trunks before as well so that would be my second guess.
