Honestly I’d say Silver is probably one of the nicest characters in Sonic, even almost as nice as Tails. I mean sure, he attempted to kill Sonic, but he was tricked and manipulated. And he didn’t necessarily think killing him was the right thing to do, but he was desperate to save the future. He realises his mistake, but he regrets it instantly after realising Sonic was innocent. Not to mention Silver is a kid that’s been through a lot. Noticed how he didn’t even smile once in Sonic 06? He’s actually a bit like Shadow

I doubt SEGA has the capability of making an ambitious Sonic game like SA1 or 2 so SEGA should just make a Sonic movie completely in CG with an SA1,2 or 06 like storyline that uses Sonic Shadow and introduces Sliver into Sonic’s world. SEGA would have to come up with a new reason why Sliver went to the past.

It feels that way because even if the plot is nonsensical the characters are at least invested in what their doing and we know why their doing it. If the characters aren't taking anything seriously it's very difficult to expect the audience to take it seriously too. Thus you lose people or no one cares to pay attention.

Silver is like 14 or 15 being on the younger side of most characters. So he’s definitely a kid and he can be a bit of a doofus in an endearing way. The comics are great moments of character for him.

I always liked Silver but I never really thought it made sense for him to be a reoccurring character after 06. If he comes from the future and is constantly coming back in time to change it, then he should be a different person every time he comes back. At the very least, the writers should have tried to explain it. Also, thanks for bringing up how Amy was the one to bring up Silver’s moral dilemma. Everyone tries to paint her as selfish for saying what she did but the morality between protecting an individual’s rights (Sonic’s in this case) and protecting the larger society is actually a complex question and not as clear cut as people try to make it out to be.

Characters In-Depth You could argue that Iblis is the cause of that. Silver tried to seal Iblis in himself before Blaze made her sacrifice. Perhaps that attempt left a mark on his soul, insulating him from changes to the timeline. That or multiverse theory.

I agree with everything said in this video but I would like to elaborate on one thing that wasn’t talked about that much. That being Silver’s friendship with Blaze. As you said, Silver is very naive, trusting and optimistic. Blaze, however, is stoic, level-headed and rational, and I think they really compliment each other. Silver, being so genuine and good-hearted is an easy person for Blaze to trust and open up to, and to remind her of the goodness in the world and her own life. Blaze is able to bring Silver down to earth when he feels lost or confused and, since Blaze is a princess who has to be experienced with other people and the world itself, she’s a good source of wisdom for Silver, someone who never had many opportunities to socialize or learn about the world around him growing up. Not to sound like shipping, but the two really bring out the best in each other, and I think they have one of the most wholesome and healthy friendships in the franchise.

Aya Peach I think most of it comes down to Blaze’s backstory being altered heavily in 06 without a proper explanation, so when Silver and Blaze are associated with each other in later games, people are reminded of that. I don’t think that’s nearly enough reason to say that their dynamic makes their characters worse, but I think that’s why it bothers some people. Takashi Iizuka has stated that aspect of the lore really isn’t worth worrying about and that Blaze is most definitely from the Sol Dimension. People also think Blaze is being pushed as Silver’s “sidekick,” which I really don’t get. I always see them as equals. Some could point to how Silver was in Forces, giving him an important role (except not really) and Blaze was left out of the story. My response to this is that Silver had a justifiable reason for being there, saving the future again, but Blaze didn’t since she only enters Sonic’s dimension when the Sol and Chaos Emeralds interact (or when an alien tanuki wants to host a race, I guess). I’m glad she and Silver are still together, though.

I agree with a lot of this, but... Silver was desperate, frustrated, and confused throughout the entirety of his story with Blaze in 06. At what point and in what way did he remind Blaze of the "goodness" in the world? The poor guy was despairing so hard after their fight with Iblis that SHE had to be the one to calm him down. He's not so blindly optimistic that he sees everything, besides the future he's fighting for, through rose-tinted glasses. Also, he's never really been that "trusting" up until some recent depictions. I'm honestly not sure where people got this from. He only trust Mephiles because he's desperate and was fighting a never ending battle with Iblis. He didn't trust Shadow until he revealed Mephiles' true intentions and showed him the truth of the Solaris project. He didn't trust Sonic until he realized he wasn't the Iblis Trigger, and he was actually acting to save Elis (and by extension, prevent Silver's doomed future). He only trust Amy after she drags him unwillingly in her quest to find Sonic, and the two build a bit of a rapport with eachother after Silver gets swept up in the scenery. It takes him _half the duration_ of Sonic Rivals 2 to open up to Espio and let him become his partner in his quest to stop the Ifrit, and he doesn't care about anyone else (nor does he try to).

I've always liked Silver. his design is sick, for one. literally a top 3 Sonic character design imo. but I've been looking into Sonic 06 a lot lately, and despite all the notorious flaws with the gameplay and story, I'm actually starting to appreciate the game more. yeah I'm still gonna laugh when something outrageous happens (because it always does) but I'm starting to think maybe it's not as bad as history painted it. I've never really been one to care for story elements in Sonic games, but Silver's story in '06 is tragic, bittersweet, and told pretty well. i commend you, Silver, you're a really awesome character.

I hate when people say that he's "Just Trunks". He's INSPIRED by Trunks but aside from being from the future to save the past, he's an entirely different character (and to note, Trunks himself was inspired by Kyle Reece from Terminator). Trunks is connected to the Z-fighters, Silver isn't connected (as far as we know) to any of the heroes. Trunks uses the same abilities everyone else uses, Silver have his own unique powers. Trunks goes back to help the heroes fight their enemy, Silver goes back to KILL one of the heroes. On top of that, Silver has moments where he contemplates the morality of killing somebody who has yet to do any wrong, and takes in the beauty of nature that's lacking in his time, moments Trunks lacks in favour of him lamenting over his father not living up to expectations and history not playing out like it should. Trunks is naíve in a combat-sense (using SS2 form not realising it's too slow to defeat Cell) where Silver is more socially naíve.

We forget that he's still a young kid trying to figure out himself and being misguided. When you think about it these characters are much more in-depth then we give credit for and those who thought they were one noted were looking at the wrong Sonic games. I don't understand why can't we have mature stories in these games is it because it was such a tone shift from 2D to 3D or some people just afraid of change and refuse to move on maybe? Even if we don't get an in-depth story whenever the new game comes out at least we have creative people that can make there own stories of the characters and how they would want things to go, because imagination are endless and have no limits in what you wanna write, draw or make.

Words can't really describe my thoughts towards this guy, but man. All I can say is, he's my favorite character in all of fiction. A slave to a constant disaster that he can't truly get away from, but will continue to always stay optimistic and hopeful? It really hits to right there. He's a character with infinite potential if he had more time to develop in some games. In just one game, he goes from bashful and reckless, to inspiring and determined. And that's really why I love this character so much. He's naïve, but relatable, and always tries to do the right thing, whether it be in games or comics. He certainly deserves better. The same could be said for other characters who have been thrusted to the side like Blaze and the Chaotix.

I agree. I love the story about Silver and i think his character has amazing potential. While i did enjoy his relationship with Blaze i feel 06 was bit holding his character back from his true potential. He does have the most development of the main cast in 06. I still question him immediately trusting Mephiles without a question. I get that Silver is very desperate, looking for any hope to save his future. But think about it, Mephiles just showed up and revealed he has time traveling powers to Silver. It never occurs to Silver to ask Mephiles why hasn't he saved the world if he already have power to do so and wants Silver to do job for him. Writing in 06 is pretty weak in some areas but i think they did good job with characters like Silver and Shadow.

@@brandonw6139 Trunks is connected to the Z Fighters (and it's made very clear by him coming back in time to literally right after he was born anyways, meaning his name is already know as that of a child). Silver has no direct connection like that. Trunks is naive in a battle experience way, Silver is more socially naive. Trunks knew what to initially look out for when he went back in time, Silver was tricked by Mephiles. I wouldn't be surprised if Terminator also had differences from Trunks, let alone from Silver.

Silver is an amazing character in Sonic the hedghog. He is naive, but very sweet. The scene with Silver and little Elise just shows how sweet he is. He is so innocent! I never understood the hate against Silver. Sure, he wasent so good in the beginning, but he came a long way. The fact that he was willing to sacrifice and willing to live with iblis to save his home just shows who he is. I just wish he was in more scenes and Sonic games.

Before I played 06 I was neutral towards Silver but after I finished His story in 06 He instantly became my one of my most favorite if not THE favorite video game character of all time. His personality, story and badass design made me love this guy and care for him through the whole story, I don't think I ever cared for a fictional character that much so It really does mean something. I hate how people in Sonic fandom treats characters like Silver, Knuckles and Chip like weak dumbasses, like calling Silver naive beacuse he belived Mephiles, well yeah It's not like Shadow believed an Alien Satan who came out of nowhere with his army of aliens attacking city and offering him help with his lost memory while He was just wondering about it seconds ago (not to mention that he wanted Shadow to collect the most powerful artefacts in the universe for informations about his memory, and Shadow clearly knew how powerful Chaos Emeralds are), so yeah, who's the naive one here... and I don't think any other main Sonic character had so much character development through the whole series as much as Silver did. Also come on He has two coolest superpowers ever, telekinesis and super speed.

I know Forces positivity is illegal or something, but people forget that he's the reason the resistence won. He went to the past to save the future from Eggman and he actually did! Without him Infinite wouldn't have dropped the Ruby. It's worth mentioning, him going to the past was jusified and that's a neat writing detail I appreciate.

Silver, honestly. I can still remember the day I first saw a picture of him when the game was still in the making. After not being able to affort a ps3 (And of the course the horrible reviews), I watched a walkthrough. He definitely did not deserve the hate he got. The fight, yes. The person, no. Silver to me is like Trunks in dragonball. They have quite a few similarities and I hope that someday in the future, there will be a game where can shine again, when they get their next game right again. I have stumbled across your channel over your video of Shadow today and you actually rekindled why I loved the franchise so much. How relatable the characters are, how engaging the story was. How the characters we see today drifted off from how they are.

Silver is absolutely my favorite Sonic character. Like many characters, in IDW, his character is at its peak. He's a misguided sweetheart- and hot take, but he's a perfect blend of Sonic and Shadow's character traits. He shares Shadow's sadder sides- like his loneliness- as well as Sonic's blatant "wearing his heart on his sleeve" style.

Silver has been my favorite character since his inclusion. (I used to be Knuckles before then btw) I always had an interest for characters that have some sort of association with time travel or can manipulate time in any fashion. I can't even begin without mentioning his color scheme: Gray, White, Turquoise and Yellow eyes to boot! ( I think yellow eyes are the coolest. If the Earth was actually like a fictional world that I would definitely like to have yellow eyes) His abilities of telekinesis are very cool and I love how he has a more serious tone to him but he himself personality-wise is caring and compassionate but determined and loyal. The only issue I have with him is the species that is character is based around...why a Hedgehog? Seriously, come on. If you make a character so closely related to the main character or a fan-favorite character worse make them the exact same species and or ethnicity as them let alone as both characters combined. Then it can hugely destroy a part of their identity which makes them unique. For example if they would have made him a different species he could have stood out more rather than just simply (another Hedgehog character) For example if he was a bird or something: Eagle maybe, then he could have stood out because at the time there wasn't any official legit characters that were Birds besides the Babylonian Rogues from Sonic Riders but that came from a spin-off title earlier in 2006 that got pretty mixed reviews and my comparison didn't sell very well. I mean those three characters are so underutilized they didn't even incorporate them into team Sonic racing which is clearly a spin-off racing game just like Sonic Riders plus pitting it was team-based that allowed three characters Bert and which would have been a perfect reason to include them since it was a racing game and it required a team it would have been so fitting. But Sega apparently hates those characters so they did away with them and we haven't seen them since and no the mobile game Sonic Speed battle does not count. So if silver would have been a different species he could have came off as far more unique rather than just being seen as yet again another Hedgehog character. I really do love silver as a character and he is still my favorite but I really do feel his species was a huge missed opportunity. (Ugh! fine, I like birds okay! There's such Majestic Elegant creatures. I have owned several parakeets over the years and I love birds included as a species in fiction with Anthro characters. Seriously though I really do think the American bald eagle would have been a great choice. Or maybe even some sort of Falcon because that way when Silverwood goes Super form it would be paying tribute to Germany's Gold Falcon.)

7:25 I am surprised how many Silver appreciation videos get this wrong. He was not pointless at all. If anything, he was one of the only Sonic side characters in the game that did something relevant. SUPER relevant at that. From the get-go, he warns Knuckles about disasterous events to come, work together to fight off Chaos, and ultimately start the Resistance together (prequel comic. Why that wasn't in the game is beyond me. Oh right including that would mean actually making a substantial game). And then for the core plot, he's the character to confront Infinite head on and knocks the ruby prototype out of his hands. Silver doing that is what allowed the Avatar to find it and pause long enough to meet up with Tails who rejoins the gang afterward. And in the climax that prototype is the key to stopping Infinite's colony drop ala sun. Silver indirectly lead to the gang's victory! That's hardly pointless. Silver was the one character who saw overall growth in Forces and that game should redeem him for you if you still hated him by that point. Regarding his bad reputation preceding that...yeah people aren't quick to forgive. Between crappy boss fights and trying to kill Sonic after being told to by some brooding wacko, I can't blame people for being mad at him for a whil.. The second attempt at Sonic was especially bad because he should have been able to see Sonic wanting to help an innnocent girl who was being actively stolen away and he didn't seem to care. Stuff like that definitely does leave a good taste in the mouth, even after you make amends. Wounds take time to heal and 06 as a whole was such a big blow to the series that Silver would naturally suffer by association for ages. But I think by now, especially after being one of the few not-useless characters in Forces, Silver has earned forgiveness.

A quirk they added to Silver with Team Sonic Racing that's worth mentioning is how hard he concentrates the point where he can't really bring himself to concentrate on much else was kinda fun. The Rivals games were also a cool reintroduction of him into the canon.

You sir just summed up my thoughts on Silver the Hedgehog and why I think he is the most overlooked Sonic character of all time. I feel that people treat Silver like a virtual comic punching bag because of how infamous his boss battle is and his terrible voice actor in his debut game. When you look past the memes, the first impressions, the jokes, and the bad actor/acting Silver’s Arc and Story is actually one of the best that Sonic Franchise has to offer. With a little polish in the script and better acting, I believe it could have been close to as impactful and strong as Shadow’s Arc in Adventure 2. I really liked how you defended Silver’s actions too, something even I did not consider about his character (it was really the only thing that weighs him down for a lot of people). People cannot get behind him instantly believing Mephiles since they do not understand that Silver is desperate and willing to do anything to save his future. He probably has been stuck in the perpetual hell of Crisis City for as long as he can remember and would do anything to change it. He doesn’t second guess it until later because he is naïve and again, he will do anything to save his future. When his actions are put into question, they could have delved deeper into the fact that what Silver is doing could be wrong instead of brushing it off and continuing with the plot. They could have had him have more of an internal conflict while pursuing Sonic in Radical Train like have him question if Sonic is actually a bad guy, if what he (Silver) is doing is the right thing, and if Mephiles’ words are truthful or have malicious intents behind them. It would have built up to the scene he later has with Shadow a lot better instead of it coming out of nowhere so Silver can be redeemed. It would have made for a less artificial redemption arc and I think more people would like Silver had he had better writing and acting in his debut. However, I enjoy his arc and character despite his flaws. I just wish Sonic Team and SEGA would give him another chance. I would also love for him to be playable again in a future game. Imagine a more fast-paced Silver with high-speed platforming like Sonic and Shadow in Adventure 1 and 2, Colors, and Generations but with a twist. A pinch of physics-based puzzles and combat using his psychokinesis along with more aerial based movement and platforming with his hover ability (but not too much since it would get tedious and repetitive). I think that would provide a very unique style of gameplay to Sonic Games along with potentially increasing the play time for Sonic Games which has been very lacking and amounting up to no more than 5 hours of gameplay since Generations. Sure, its more work for the Devs to do, but I believe it will be worth it since Sonic fans are dying to play as more characters than just Sonic and maybe Shadow in the 3D games. They wouldn’t have to change too much of Sonic’s gameplay style either to do it. Just add his psychokinesis ability, restructure the level design to better fit his playstyle, and make him faster than he was in 06 but a little slower than Sonic and Shadow to account for his other abilities. I feel that other characters like Tails and Knuckles should be added to the mix as well and given their Adventure 1 gameplay styles since they worked so well (expect maybe with Tails give him something a little different than JUST racing Sonic and Eggman). But what do I know, I don’t work at SEGA or Sonic Team so I don’t really have a say in these kind of things. Anyway, really enjoyed the video and you earned yourself a subscriber. Keep up the good work!

Silver is almost like a mirror of me. As a young teenager who had cognitive difficulties and is only beginning to reenter the system, i’ve often felt like i was powerless of the future and i’d just be stuck at home, hopeless, without nessacary social skills. This feels similar to Silver’s doubts about the future. This is all the more torture considering how extroverted i am. However, as i am quite naive and slow to process information i’ve often been misguided in my youth. You can say i can see a lie when it appears, but only if i actually see it. However i think the internet has helped me learn and grow up and i’ve changed to start taking responsibilities for myself. Being more cautious in what i say, and believe. This is similar to what happened with Silver, Memphis Tennessee and the rest of the gang. Highschool is going to be a rocky one, but i’ll show them just What I’m Made Of. Plus, it’ll unlock Endless Possibilities, if i just learn to Live Life my way. You Live and Learn, and I’ll Reach For The Stars, because in the end i know It Doesnt Matter, in this Dream of an Absolution.

I haven't heard anyone mentioning this, but one of his first lines is "how did this happen? No one will answer me directly. But they always point... To the flames " if I remember correctly. And Mephiles answers him, not 100% directly, but he does answer him. Tbh those first lines have a lot of hints. For example I believe "were we live in eternal darkness" " these flames[...]they come from an eternal lifeform" could be a hint for Mephiles and Iblis being connected. The writing is better than people give it credit for.

I loved Silver’s story in Sonic 06 along with my favorite female character his best friend Blaze the Cat and her ultimate sacrifice at the end still makes me cry 😭 my other favorite moments are the heart moving scene where he gives the young Elise the blue Chaos Emerald and helping Amy despite not knowing that she was also looking for Sonic. Even though the game itself isn’t as great as it should have been it still had a great storyline and brilliant voice cast and it will always be one of my favorite Sonic games thanks for sharing this great video of my favorite futuristic hedgehog 👍🤍🦔

The problem i have with Silver is that since his introduction, he convoluted the Sonic timeline. Why Blaze is with him? Eggman Nega is from the future or from another dimension? In Generations we have a clue that Blaze remembers Sonic 06 because she says "I never thought i come back to crisis city. This world is full of surprises." But the question is: ¿Silver remembers?

I never understood blaze and silver's relationship. First of all, blaze was very independent in sonic rush, and the only one who taught her how to rely on friends was sonic. Then he taught her how to use HER OWN EMERALDS and saved the world together in their super forms. Then they had a new game that built further on their relationship and had blaze open up more to not just sonic, but a few others too. Then all that was thrown out the window and they completely changed her backstory, and now instead of going on cool adventures and saving the world with sonic and a few others, shes babysitting silver all the time. Not to mention how sonic let blaze make her own choices, like how he didn't stop her from going back to her own world. Sliver was getting mad at her during the beginning of his story of 06, and tried to stop her from sacrificing herself to save his own world. I don't care who blaze is friends with, but if you're going to reshape her entire character just to fit one game, then that's not the right way how to do it

Love the character and his original theme from 06 is freaking awesome. I'm new to the Sonic fanbase after falling in love with the Sonic 2020 movie and I didn't realise their was so much division within the fandom because I grew up a Marvel fan where we just kind love every character and are used to great movies. With Sonic you have LOOK for the best games and shows but as long as their are new fans like me joining in. Maybe the people at Sega will start paying attention after the success of the first movie.
