The hardest thing for me has been reminding myself that my curls aren’t going to look like social media curls. Thank you for sharing.

That is hard!!! Try to focus more on the curls you see out and about and you’ll see that REAL curls aren’t what you see online! You’re welcome. ❤️

I’m so happy to hear this!! I tried this about a month ago and just felt using a brush was pulling and breaking my very fine silver hair. I keep invisioning you, Stephanie, working with your hair when washing. So I won’t brush either 🫣🤷🏼‍♀️

Thank you for not endorsing the whole styling for “perfect curls” thing, especially finger-twisting every single curl… always seemed ridiculous & way too time-consuming to me, plus it never lasts… I just found this channel and I’m really appreciating you!

Denman brush doesn't work on my hair, but works on my sibs. If I don't use a comb however, to detangle, (vs fingers alone) it starts to mat at the roots.

If your hair is tangling profusely at the root it might be an issue with your shampoo!

My hair is opposite, i used to finger style but then due to manes by mell another professional hairstylist recommending brushing in conditioner and brush styling my hair has been healthier because product distributes more equally, the trick is using a gentle brush like the tangle teezer

Like I said, hair that has no health concerns may be able to handle this kind of technique. That may be where you and I (and others who’ve experienced damage to their hair or follicles) differ. Brushing techniques aren’t safe for everyone’s hair and no matter the results you get, finger styling will always be the technique that puts less mechanical stress on the hair.

My hair was very damaged when I started, it got healthier after and now my hair is bleached and still feels virgin and I always use a brush

@@lyanagonzalez5599 I’m the same. I need to use a brush, my hair is too fine and tangly to finger-comb it without creating a pile of painful knots. I see she’s arguing with a bunch of people in the comments… I think finger-combing only works for certain types of hair, which doesn’t include my type of hair.

I began my journey brush styling and as my hair got healthier and healthier I just use my fingers. The only time I brush is to brush distribute the leave in. That’s about it. It’s been so easy and I love that I get more volume.

This may be true for thick curly hair, but for my fine curls, I've never had the definition or body in my curls before using a Denman brush to get styling product thru my hair. Also running it section by section thru the brush gently and then scrunching gave me phenomenal results not available with any other technique. Your mileage may vary.

My hair is so fine and tangly I’m unable to finger-style it, no matter how much I tried. I just end up with a pile of painful knots. I got a brush and removed some of the bristles, and that works very well for me.

I have never brush styled my very fine soft waves and I have never finger styled either. I do not have the patience to mess with it. I keep my hair process short and simple. I wash, I condition and comb with a wide toothed comb. I bend over, and scrunch in styling gel from root to ends. I use a t-shirt to scrunch out excess water. Medium dryer for a few minutes and I'm done. I'm happy with it and my hair is very healthy. No chemicals and low heat.

Totally agree. Your hands are your eyes when it comes to learning the feel of your hair. I’m starting to believe that when your hair is that damaged even the water coming out of your showerhead the pressure can probably snap it off.

Severely compromised hair can get stressed and break from very frequent (multiple times a week) rinsing and especially at high water pressure for extended periods of time. Try to keep rinses to the minimum time needed to fully saturate the hair or fully rinse product and fully rinse the hair as infrequently as possible if your hair is very compromised (damaged).

Thank you! I broke up with brush styling a long time ago cuz I thought it made my hair look stressed out. And I love when my curls look more natural and not perfect! Curly hair is not perfect and that’s why it’s beautiful and awesome 😂
