I'd recommend still wearing earplugs for longer rides due to wind. I would also recommend puig wind screen for the ninja 400 and the leovince lv one evo as it has a baffle and a deeper but less aggressive sound
@Zepplin76
@Zepplin76 3 жыл бұрын
I second the puig windshield. I bought one to upgrade my stock (meter cover) that came on my z400 (naked ninja). I didn't use loctite on the screws. One was missing one day when I looked. I contacted puig and they sent me a free replacement screw, washer and screw cover. Outside of user error it's been great. Better wind angle (off chest) and bugs clean easier than the stock or rest of my bike.

@@JordanMac79 well they are designed for different purposes. The puig isn't as tall because it's made for racing and tucking. If I did a lot more touring then yes, I'd have to agree with you

Appreciate the honesty and the updates about all the changes to the 400. I myself was looking for a loud exhaust for city riding here in San Francisco, but like yourself my main goal for riding is to be out for longer periods of time out in the beach/woods/twisties, so hearing your opinion on the matter was fantastic and I'm just going to keep the stock exhaust.

The aftermarket exhaust you were using is among the loudest ones. If you or anyone that finds this there are a few other exhausts that are comparable to the stock exhaust while being the same if not just slightly louder. Some of these exhaust from what I have seen is Hindle Megaphone (starts loudish but get quieter when the engine is warm), Lextek XP8C, and Akrapovic Carbon.

I installed a Akrapovic slip-On (with baffle) on my 400 and I’ve yet to encounter any complaints from my neighbors. And when I forget to put my ear plugs in, the wind noise is much more of an annoyance then my exhaust is so it was a win win for me. Just a suggestion... 😉

The model numbers for both of them are (INS-27-K) which is the one that came with mine and (INS-20-K) which is the other one that is available. The one that came with my yoshi is flared on the end that goes into the exhaust the other model does not have the flair. As a suggestion for "panniers" I used Kriega US30 and US10s on my Daytona. It worked fantastically on my ride to Melbourne (MotoGP 2019). No rubbing etc. Its great not to have anything on your back on long riding. Tank bags are ok too, but tailpacks/panniers are better. My N1K has a topbox which is even better. If you do make any plans for rides south of Sydney, I've ridden most of the sealed stuff between here and Melbourne. and I like that your 400 doesn't sound like someone's lawnmower anymore ;P

In Europe they also sold the z400 and ninja 400 as a performance addition. This meant the bikes were supplied fitted with an akrapovic exhaust, you still get the standard exhaust in a box. I bought the z400 version as it looked better and I knew I would want to change the standard exhaust. The akrapovic fitted is road legal so not very noisy. I got mine with the LV10 Full and I am thinking of going back to stock too. I think you probably will pick up some midrange with the stock exhaust too. I test rode a stock 2022 and it did have more midrange than my loud 2021. Also I like early canyon rides in Los Angeles before the activist bicyclists can make it up in the canyons. They often hog the road (often 4 abreast!) and ignore if anyone is coming. I can get around just fine, but what they do is completely piss off the car drivers who then do extremely stupid stuff to get around them which usually results in them being on my side of the road in a blind corner. . . rant over . . if I do that I need to go early AM and that LV10 will wake the dead. And since I'm usually the only one out at that time a cop could hear me from a mile away. Both not good. I will miss the red seas parting when I lane split but I don't commute on this bike (no traffic on Sunday morning). I have an FZ6 with an SC Project exhaust and it is louder than the LV10, perfect commuter. I also do long distance and you are right that LV10 wont cut it for that. I am sure someone makes a longer muffler (more quiet) that could use the LV10 mid pipe and I may end up there since I would need to buy the stock muffler. Whatever solution that is less expensive and still works/looks good (would love an Akrapovic but not for $400.00.)
