Loved this game from the very beginning to the end. I remember not having a single friend to play high-end activities with, until I found one random guy at the tower who messaged me, we did some strikes together, and then he introduced me to his team. We became friends after a couple of days of playing and we started doing nightfalls and the raid (at the time there was only Vault of Glass, and I remember getting the Vex Mythoclast on my 2nd hard mode run, everyone in my team was mad at me for being so lucky). From that moment on we’ve been playing through The Dark Below all together (killed Crota), then House of Wolves (went flawless on Trials and completed every level in the PoE), and then finally playing TTK together (which was my favourite raid ever). This will always be my all time favourite videogame, and I’ll never be able to listen to its soundtrack without shedding some tears of nostalgia.

But in d1 the raids feel like you’re stepping into a place nobody has gone before. Like vault of glass, you are going into a secret place that bends reality. In Croats end, it feels like you’re going to a place completely overrun by darkness. In kings fall, you are going into a place where one of the most powerful entities resides. And in wrath of the machine, you are going to a place that you will most likely die in. The atmosphere in d1 is amazing, every time I go into a raid it just gives me chills.

VOG is a huge cavern the Vex mechanised, turning the heart of Venus into a resting place for Time's Conflux. Heavily defended by the most powerful Vex machines, and virtually impenetrable. Your light only survives thanks to the sacrifice of Kabr, who, in his final moments, poured the last of his light into a shield, before he and it were rended from the timeline, scattered throughout the past and future of the vault. Crota's End is a journey inside of the Moon. Into the Hellmouth, which was dug by billions of disgusting, evil, genocidal alien monsters. You enter the ascendant realm, and slay Crota, the champion knight of the hive, turning his own sword against him as his power drains your light, preventing you from healing, while his oversoul builds it's destructive power to smother any trace of you. King's Fall, you break into the deepest layers of the Dreadnaught, Oryx's territory in the ascendant realm, dragged into the materium via the sheer power Oryx wields thanks to the sword logic. He built a throne room, and a great ship around it from the compressed, rotted remains of his own people. There are huge piles of jelly-like eggs collecting in the untrodden corners, and dreadful fumes and spores floating around in the air. The ship is rotting, falling apart. Chunks of the smooth floors and walls are chipped away, revealing the forbidden crumpets within. You claim the many auras of the Hive's rituals of sword logic and slay their royalty. First, you fell the mighty Warpriest, and a titan in your fireteam cuts off his head as a trophy, and wears its hollowed-out exoskull as a helmet. You distract Golgoroth and allow your fireteam to wound it unnoticed. It falls to your overwhelming light. You steal the aura of immortality from Oryx's daughters and use it to murder them. A warlock, not one to be outdone, copies the titan, taking one of their heads as a token of their victory. Finally, you face Oryx. You kill the beasts he sends to eat your light, spilling pools of corrupted light on the ground. You stop him drawing power from the darkness and then channel this corrupted light and detonate it, as a terribly destructive bomb to wound Oryx. In his final stand, he is powerless, and his place in the ascendant realm is relinquished. You take his ravenous heart and turn it into a weapon. WOTM is in a structure built as a ramshackle entrance to one of Rasputin's vaults, incorporating a siege engine on the cosmodrome wall. You descend into the vault and bring down the zealot Aksis, who tried to make himself a god. (I could bitch about the Vosik and Aksis encounters being basically the same, but whatever. I don't really play Wrath that much) The D2 raids are: just complete a few tests then kill a Freddy Fazbear version of a guy who is already dead... Or is he?; Wander through a lavender coloured city, kill 3 psycho chicks (which are all basically the same encounter over and over), then shoot a dragon in the eyes; shoot big fat cabal looking hive possessed thing; and wander through a lab then kill Taniks, who we already killed twice and is trying to copy Aksis and give himself a giant robo-gorilla-dumpy. There's a bit of a difference. There's no mystery or majesty about the D2 raids. It's all just low-stakes rubbish-sweeping twaddle with dumb bosses.

@MrJakeasaur984 жыл бұрын
I agree. I think the worse thing Bungie has done is the seasonal artefact power level. It gives an advantage to those who spend every waking hour playing the game and provides an uninteresting means of progression just so there is no end to the progression once you reach the pinnacle cap. It's a band-aid counter-measure to an severed limb. I'd much rather the progression has an end point each expansion, or even each season, that is achievable for the whole player base. The issue is evident with the fact that the end-game activities disable the artefact power advantages simply because it would cause imbalance for the player base.

I always felt this way too, but never knew why. I figured it out when I joined a D2 clan very recently. The way they treated the game and each other was so much more toxic than any of the randoms/friends I played with in D1. They broke every moment of immersion, treating the game like a chore rather than an experience. They refused to allow me the moments of friendship I was searching for. Any moment of playfulness and fun I tried to give was taken away by over arching anger for not “one phasing” correctly or not having the gear they said was the best. Rather than a chase for immersion, secrets (ex: original thorn quest), and connection, destiny has become a chase for “first,” “quickest,” and “god rolls.” I remember climbing the mountains of lord Saladin’s palace and sitting with all my friend’s characters around the campfire. I have a screenshot that I wish I could post here. Ever since D2 came out, I could not recreate that feeling. I have since left the clan and play only by myself.

We do have a lot more loot and I’m not mad at that going a long while D1 without any legendaries dropping felt like wasted effort it’s why loot caves existed. You don’t need loot caves as much now because you can just play the game and you’ll get a legendary. Even in that legendary loot pool players are looking for specific things and stat rolls so there’s still that factor of I finally got it. It’s just a different way of going about it. I just started playing D2 for the first time again this week. I first bought D2 at release, played for an hour or two, then requested a refund from Blizzard when something felt "off". After they thanked me for all the years of business, they refused to refund me, and I basically never touched the game again until now. After playing for about 10 hours I just couldn't put my finger on what felt off still... Yes the game is beautiful, yes the gunplay is fantastic, but it's just not the same game and I wasn't sure what it was. This video basically sums up exactly what your going to feel if you played D1. I hate the Crucible now when it used to be my favorite part of the game. Maybe the endgame will be fun, but I can already tell by the mountain of drops they're giving me that nothing will feel special. I'm only playing with friends, but man, why does all our favorite games (mostly MMOs) go through this same death cycle? So much nostalgia with the Destiny brand and I'm sad things change like they do. I guess that's life, but Video Games aren't life, that's the point, and here I am ranting on KZbin instead of playing the game, which is all you need to know. Oh well, nice video, glad I'm not alone. Sorry for the long comment. To anyone who read this whole thing, Merry Christmas! :)

It wouldn't have worked. Destiny 1 was made with Xbox 360 and PS3 in mind. Even once they dropped support for them, those were still holding them back. If anything, Bungie should've made a Destiny 3 instead of keeping Destiny 2 going if they were going to remove content from the game. What's the point if you have no way to actually play through the entire story of Destiny. Technical limits aside, it would've been best if they kept one game going the whole time though.

I honestly love the designs of the D1 gear more than D2. Like I absolutely loved the designs of the Guardiens in the early D1 trailers such as the Warlocks gear and how they’re essentially a space wizard wearing stuff that Star Lord from Guardiens of the Galaxy would wear. Now it’s like all the best gear has to be this crazy, flashy, light show literally metal armor gear with neon becoming super common. I missed the days where all the best gear was this stuff Guardians fashioned from what they found such as coats, furs, weathered coats, leather, etc. Destiny gear has honestly gotten progressively less and less appealing with this need to have it look like it would fit in something like World or Warcraft with how it’s all styled and designed.

Amen brother. I don't get why people keep saying that loving D1 more is "nostalgia". This isn't some 20 year old game. D1 was all the rage 4-5 years ago. As a complete package, it just feels like a FULL game. Creating a new char in D1 is a joy, to go through the leveling and all the missions (that are still there untouched). Creating a D2 char is scary, to go through the goddamn seasonal grind. D2 is fun with friends and it keeps you coming back but soon you realize it's more a job than entertainment. Nothing is ever going to beat playing through Taken King and Rise of Iron.

Definitely hit the nail on the number of legendary gears that drop on D1 vs D2. Also the crucible in D1 was good. I do miss the levelling up system on weapons. Where you had to spend motes or play the game to level up weapons and unlock the perks. Also the weapons offered the players to choose the perks they want after unlocking the weapon perks. D2 mods are OK and good substitute. But I feel as though 4 years of D1 development has gone down the drain. Its a shame bungie did not capitalise on the success of D1 and replicate some of the old stuff of D1 on to D2. I've recently come back and after 2 weeks of grinding, I'm now fed up of it again.

Except that the content we're getting in between expansions is terrible. Also Bungie puts resources into that content which means less content for big expansions (Shadowkeep). Content droughts are bad but seasons aren't a solution. They're basically content droughts that Bungie puts time into making.
@MachineLord424 жыл бұрын
The great thing about the content drought between ttk and roi is that I actually got to play other games that came out during that time like Overwatch and Rainbow Six: Seige; nowadays with D2 I feel like I either have to play it exclusively if I want to even be able to do new content or never play and focus on other games. So I think that Destiny 2 is probably better for people that never want to stop playing Destiny, but I prefer Destiny 1's system more because it gave me time to play other games that I love and allowed me to savor the content more.

ilyas abdolcader A good amount of D2’s Raids are more mechanically complex and creative and aren’t artificially made difficult through high power. Most of VoG revolves around just shooting ads and killing specific ads
@saltycandy2454 жыл бұрын
ilyas abdolcader Well your criticism for D2 Raids being just killing ads would be an unfair criticism considering you don’t play the more simple Raids. On top of that the argument that D2 is more grindy isn’t necessarily a bad thing, just means you have to commit more time for it. I was not a fan of how easy it was to hit max power because you didn’t have to put a lot of effort to get to 400. Not only that but high power doesn’t really matter considering only a small minority of activities require you to have high power

@ilyas abdolcader Mate, Destiny Raids aren't difficult because of mechanics. No one does 390 VoG and goes "Bro the mechanics are challenging and require focus" D1 Raids are so mechanically simple that the only way to make them difficult is by raising the power.

Yeah, I'm growing really tired of seeing my Power Level reset every 3 months with the main goal of each new Season to get back to the same Power Level that I was at in the previous Season. And for what, why do we even want to keep raising our Power Level? So little content even requires a high enough level anyway, and the ones that do offer beyond trash rewards. The Prophecy Dungeon, cool in design, but the rewards are simply not worth my time. D1 > D2. I said it back in 2017, I said it again even after Forsaken, and I continued to say it after Shadowkeep.

Sooo I might be of the unpopular opinion here, but my experiences was as follows (warning, super long comment). I got D1 when it launched, and I only played for at most 2 months. I stopped after that because I couldn't accept what little was available to do in the game and playing by myself didn't interest me enough. I came back I think a year after (could've been 2 i'm not sure) to do some crucible, but every playlist was locked off except for the mixed playlist because I didn't have any expansions/season pass. That ticked me off so I left again and never came back to D1. D2 I came in after I was told about new light (game being free) and some of my friends wanted to play with me. So I said sure I'll try it. And my experience was much better having a lot more at my disposal to do and other people to point out what I can do and do activities with them. I also liked the general gameplay changes, mainly the movement speed increase. Now this next part is only specific to me so this did alter my thoughts of the game. My friends got me forsaken and shadowkeep as christmas gifts so the entire game was at my disposal. Having all the stuff to do kept me busy for long periods of time. That being said, I stopped a month into season of the worthy and came back for season of arrivals. Season 11 got me interested in the game again with the umbral engram system and lore, the new dungeon helped quite a bit. With the content drought starting to now happen cause of Beyond Light being pushed back to november, I took the time to do forsaken and shadowkeep campaigns. I really liked forsaken and shadowkeep, ehhhhhh season 11 helped cause of the pyramid ships and the darkness, otherwise wasn't as interesting. I can't lie tho, my interest in Beyond Light is keeping me around at least when it comes to news about it. I know of the main 3 subclasses being around since Taken King so I want to use the stasis subclasses come november.

I don't like the content model of D2 but I still prefer it to D1 solely for the gameplay. D1 feels like a slog and I can play for hours and not feel like I accomplished anything. Of course I respect anyone that still prefers D1 cause I get all the criticisms of D2 atm, and agree with a lot of them.

I feel an issue is having people’s opinions be more determined by their nostalgia and that bias basically telling themselves that “X is worse or not as good” instead of looking through what I consider a more analytical view of things

Hold on, back up, you don’t feel like your getting anywhere in d1 after grinding, well most people would say that’s how d2 feels, and if your getting that feeling in d1 it’s cause your not doing the right stuff, cause the d1 level grind is very quick

I definitely agree with the complaint of "never feel caught up". If you played D1 from Day 1, it means you are probably by now, at least in college or in an adult job...aka, restricted game time. I get so annoyed to finally get some seasonal mediocre top level stuff, just in time for the next season to roll in and eliminate and obsolete all that hard work. On the other hand, if I want to finish some activity still open from last season, the enemies scale up to the new level, meaning something I could have breezed through last week of the last season, I cant even complete in the new one from being underleveled. Not to mention constant rebalancing of the meta means I never have the best weapons or loadouts, or even know wtf they are. I know bungie hears that, with pulling some of the old beloved raid gear into year 4, but makes it so I have to go grind for it again for that to work, and some of the most missed weapons from raids that are going away (like midnight coup) that were made irrelevant with the season system, are not getting this option. Basically it amounts to requiring players to ONLY play D2, and no other game, if they have any hope of having good enough gear to actually enjoy playing D2. D1 did have "must haves" like Ghorn, that should have been nerfed out, since it became exclusionary, but others that were just fun, like mythoclast, could have been left alone. It seems this nerf culture has only gotten worse in D2 as the never ending OCD obsession for "balance" is pursued, so that no weapon matters, but all weapons matter, and only if you have the exact right combo of things can you kind of sort of get an off balance advantage. Sleeper simulant being a perfect example, that thing was grindy AF to get in D2, and it was so rewarding to use when you did. Then the nerf came, and now, a new player would ask me "is it worth getting?" and I honestly couldnt tell them it is. I remember loving all my exotic weapons in D1 because they truly were so good, it was hard to decide which slot to sacrifice to allow to carry which weapon. I cant remember a time in D2 where I had to make such a choice, even to the point that exotics are very rarely the best weapon for any particular situation. I will see someone using something like graviton lance and go, "oh yeah, I used to love that gun" but would have to put my loadout at a disadvantage if i wanted to use it. The point is, Bungie needs to hit a balance between bringing new content, and not forcing people to play it. Please introduce new raids, yes, but please dont obsolete existing favorites in the process.

Wish the 360/ps3 servers were just shut down and they gave us a true next gen patch,it's s crime that destiny 1 is not on pc and is permanently given the 30 fps treatment. Edit: i think Activision own d1 so yeah never.

The fact of the matter is people don’t want the harder content, they just act like they want it
@MoopleLoops4 жыл бұрын
Things like Grandmaster nightfalls aren't true difficulty in my eyes, though. You're still running a strike, that, by design, is simple and easy. If you only care about the completion of a GM, you run 2 (or 3) hunters and you skip a large majority of each strike. Hiking up enemy power level to the point that nearly anything one shots you and requiring a lock and key system via champions to force loadouts isn't fun for what seems to be a large majority of people. At some point, something difficult for the sake of being difficult isn't fun. I think Destiny managed to find the balance of difficult AND entertaining content in most aspects, especially raids.

@@StatusCaIamitous exactly people complain about not having hard content so bungie gives them it and then they bitch that its too hard
@anix24574 жыл бұрын
It’s not hard though... all Bungie have done is nerf your power output by artificially reducing your dps and throwing more bullet sponges into a repetitive, predictable strike. A team with the correct loadout can breeze through.

The Taken King DLC was one of my favorite gaming experiences. I remember very good all the crazy runs with my friends in that big ship. And the raid against the king was fire! Has Destiny 1 still have a big player base? Or is it a bit dead?

I totally agree with you, I wanna play d2 but like you said the feeling of always having to catch up and grind power levels, never feeling accomplished just pisses me off and for some reason I’d actually get anxiety over it. I know some might say that’s weird it’s just a game. But like yourself I really love the destiny universe and it makes me sad that this is the route they are taking it. I just want to be able to play and not worry about having to do it all over again and waste my limited time that I can sit down and play.

I picked up D1 and started from scratch a couple of weeks ago. First time I played since Rise of Iron. Looking back, the loot and progression system was so much better. Every piece of loot felt more meaningful as opposed to D2 where every drop is seen as free Gunsmith Materials and Legendary Shards, even though you have hundreds of them already. The reputation system made it feel special every time you ranked up, while in D2, you practically get enough tokens for a rank up in every Strike. D2 does have good things too, such as the Director feature, exotic catalysts and more stat customization with Armor 2.0. And while this may be controversial, I do prefer drip feed because it makes it feel like there’s always something going on, even if the content is just a bland “kill 500 enemies and play old content to get to the good stuff” quest. In the end, it all just comes down to a matter of perspective where neither is wrong. While I am waiting for something interesting in D2, I’ll continue playing D1 so I can finally play the Rise of Iron campaign.

Destiny 2 just doesn’t feel like destiny. At least destiny 1 was similar to the amazing world they originally advertised in 2013. It was a shell of a much better game. But destiny 2 isn’t even the shell of a game that used to be good. Joe Staten wasn’t involved in developing the universe. It was just a bunch of nobody’s. It’s like if JK Rowling didn’t write Harry Potter. Like yeah it’s technically still “Harry potter” buts it’s not written by the person who originally created it, instead it’s written by a bunch of random unknown writers so I’m not interested. The destiny universe went to shit as soon as destiny 2 was released

They really need to bring back hard mode raids. It’s silly that they don’t exist. The no revives and new mechanics really added that extra bit of intensity. Not to mention the different armor variations
