All coaches do this man. Or at least most of them in H.S. There is so much talent or players on a football team. Every one should get on the field if they show up to practice and have good grades. Some coaches do not know how to use all their talent. But will focus on their best player or a couple.

99 Problems Yeah it's sad. I've always had A's, B's, and rarely C's. I would always come to practice and do my best at cornerback. Did I start? Yeah. Did others who did the same thing as me start? No. They'd never miss practice, have acceptable grades, but never even SNIFF the field. It's sad.

I can relate. My freshman year of high school I played JV and had 1500 yards at RB and I thought I could make Varsity. I couldn't make Varsity, I tried and tried again. And it seemed like everytime my coach said something to me it was never good. So eventually when I came to my Senior year i was the only RB who wasnt a freshman on my team. First game went out and ran for over 200 yds. It all felt fine and dandy, ended the season with over 1000 yds and the first kid in 4 years to do so at my school. When the season ended, no school wanted to talk to me. Only D2 and D3 and I didnt want that. I felt like I wanted to be at a D1, because I know I'm that good. It sucks. I let my own heart get the best of me. Now a year later sitting here knowing that I go to a D1 school, I'm so scared to even try out for the team and it sucks because I could have changed all of this. Don't be like me. Be better y'all.

I'm 37 but when I played Highschool ball in Miami I was dealing with the same BS you went through. I attended Miami Beach Senior High who produced players like my uncle Harold Ragin, Duane Starks former Raven, Samari Rolle, and Chad Ochocinco Johnson. When I arrived my 9th grade year I was 5'6 150lbs and the Head Coach who coached my uncle and older brother looked at me as if I wasn't going to be any good. My senior year I was 5'8 160 squat 500lbs and ran a 4.47. Thought I was going to start at FS but was benched and when I got garbage time I showed out but was never enough. I lost the love for it and regret that I never transferred to another school

My story similar to yours . They put me in a position that I know college coaches don’t want a person my size to be in 6’1 220 playing DT . My stats were décents . I was 5’9 160 lbs, the fastest and second strongest receiver my senior year. I had transferred around alot. I first played my freshman and sophomore year at a 4A school, then moved to 3A at the beginning of my junior year. I got very little playing time junior year, it wouldn’t have been as bad if we weren’t the worst team in the state and literally lost all but 1 of our games. I transferred midway through the season to a 6A team. They were undefeated and even tho I was ineligible, i still practiced and improved dramatically from the better coaching and more helpful teammates. We won state championship.. But I made the mistake of returning to the 3A team because reasons. Absolutely dominated summer practice. Was projected to be one of the best if not the best receivers and even played cornerback. But come our first game. Zero playing time. Second game Zero playing time we lost 35 - 0. Third game I played a few minutes but only to block. Leading up to the Fourth game I had spectacular week of practice. The star receiver had surgery so I moved up to his position but got benched on game day and got very little playing time. We lost 34 - 0. Im not saying me not playing contributed to the lost. But our offense was ass. I constantly got shit on for not getting playing time.

Yo Sharp- appreciate you sharing your story and creating ur site. I would like to add that sports at any level and age can be extremely challenging and when you get to high school - that's when sports can become be very complicated. Its not easy- and just because one may be athletically superior than most kids doesn't necessarily translate on the field. Everyone needs to keep a positive outlook and try to have fun because I know from experience that when you start taken sports to serious and forget about having fun - well, its not going to be fun. If I can pass on some advice on playing ball in school is 1) stay positive and always play hard because it will pay off 2) try to live in the moment and understand your situation/situations: the years of the high school experience is so important and it can go by in a blink of a eye. And lastly 3) regardless of your stat lines- if you are good enough to go to the next level they ( as in Coaches) will find. If you are playing for a big time high school or a small private school, somebody will recognize your abilities.

My coach was a marine colonel for 30 yrs straight out of high school before coming back to his alma mater to coach, which was my freshman year. Stressed discipline all the time to the extreme. I have no problem with discipline, and completely see how it’s necessary in football. I think as a football player you should be held to a higher standard and have more discipline than anyone else in the school. We have weights at 6:30 am almost every single day of the year. Sometimes it’s not easy for me to make it because I take honors classes and have to wake up at 5:30 if I want to make it to weights on time. This marine colonel is the DB coach, my position. This year, my junior year, I finally got my chance to start. I performed well. I know I did. Made a tackle every time the ball came my way, had several pass break ups, multiple INTs, etc. One practice, the first team defense was taking a break while the second team ran the drill. Some of my teammates were talking, and I didn’t join in the conversation at first because I knew my DB coach would get mad. Every other DB was what someone could consider “popular,” and I didn’t really have that status. My coach looked at us several times, saw them talking, saw me separated from the group. Eventually, one of our hurt LBs walks up to me and asks me a question. I answer him, but keep my eyes on the drill. I don’t see my coach looking at me, but I turn my head for a split second and look at the person I’m talking to, then look back at the drill. My coach sees that and moves me down to third string. “Why don’t you pay attention to the drill? Do you think you’re more important? Just want to throw away your chance at playing?” All of my older brothers have played for this high school and I dreamed of playing here. Im not very big, but I worked out hard, mostly after school. I knew I could get back up to a starting role if I just worked hard. Turns out I was wrong. They started a slow, even smaller sophomore who gave up 3 TDs against the worst team in our league. We lost that game. It was the only game we lost that season. I balled out on JV, but my coach didn’t seem to care. I’m close with some of the offensive coaches, so I’ve been thinking about switching to WR, but am nervous about learning our entire spread offense in just one year. I want to play college ball. I know I have the athletic ability to play college ball. But my coach won’t give me the opportunity. I’ve talked to him after practices, asking “what can I do to move up the depth chart?” One week his answer was “get off blocks better.” I worked hard on that and got good at coming off blocks to make a tackle. One week his answer was “come out of breaks better.” I worked hard on my footwork, and came out of my breaks faster. The other DBs told me I had the best footwork on the team. Finally, the only area I could improve in was showing up to weights every day. I made it about 1-3 times a week, but never missed a whole week but also rarely made it the whole week. I told him about my situation, excess homework, I have to take care of my family because I don’t have a mom, etc. I understand we all have struggles in life, and I don’t think my struggles are any worse than anyone else’s, but pair that with a 30 minute drive to school, and it’s hard for me to be there at 6:30 every day after a long day. I told him I work out after school every day. He didn’t care. Slowly over time, my love for playing football has deteriorated. I’m debating whether I should even play my senior year. I’m not sure what to do

@@kenneyp.9456 my football career ended last Friday. I hardly played, but did start one game. It got the point where I just didn’t care anymore, I love football, but I hated playing for that team and that coaching staff. I just stopped trying to impress the coaches, and didn’t even try to wake up for weights anymore. I got a decent amount of sleep every night, my grades went up, and I was generally happier. I wanted to quit, but my dad didn’t want that and I would’ve been punished for it. It kind of sucks to say that the coaches won, but there was nothing I could do to change my situation. I’m not even a little bit upset that my football career is over. Thank you for your interest!

My son is going through the same thing. He only gets last seconds of the game to play and he does better than what everyone have done in the entire game. When he played one entire game in the beginning they won 40-0, next game they benched him and replaced him with the referee’s son (good friend of the coach too) and they lost 0-38. My son gets in trouble for the the most minimal, he got in trouble in practice for hitting the quarterback too hard. Then praised the other kid when he did the same. I don’t want to get involved because is not my place. But I have to bite my tongue really hard.

Sharpe I can relate to this with happened to me this year at my school I’m a sophomore and our jv team got split up half of the team was sent to varsity and the other half of us were sent down to the freshman team and were promised playing time for the team being split up. I made every practice and every game on time the whole year and I saw no playing time at all. I balled out on the scout offense and I just felt like my coach betrayed me and every other kid busting their ass just to see the same kids playing both sides of the ball on Saturdays. We barely finished 4-4 and I felt like why even have a team with nearly 50 kids when the same 11 kids play both sides and there are barely any subs if any. I kept my head up the whole season and worked my ass off and I’ve been working hard this whole off season I want to prove all those coaches wrong in my first year on varsity.

I moved to Texas from Georgia in 9th grade so they put me on b team and didn’t start, then a team sophomore year, didn’t start, then put me on a team and started all the games junior year, deep down in me, I knew that I wasn’t that good and I would say that over and over, that was the main reason I quit football after junior year, had tendinitis in my knees, couldn’t take it anymore, ya I would have been second string tackle or starting guard but I was so burned out, hurt, and didn’t believe in myself. Hope you have an awesome birthday and congrats on 80,000 subs. Keep up the good work.

With my senior year being in 2016 the worst and dreadful season I ever had. I was going through the same situation you went through your junior year. It still hurts me to think about it because I spent $$$ hundreds of dollars for this sport and for training it was a tragedy in my eyes and I didn’t know what I was anymore or what I wanted to be in the future knowing I wanted to play college football it sucks to say I failed myself and my family on and off the field and with that being said I’ve learned from my past mistakes for those who are reading this take this video and remember the important message he tells you. Started my sophomore year first year of varsity for my school over a junior. Than started ever since. But, only got offers for D2 and D3. I wanted to play D1 but my coaches weren’t doing a good job recruiting. I was leading the state in sacks for a while got second in the state. Made all conference junior year and missed All State by one game because of concussion. Than senior year balled out I thought for sure I would get offers and got All State and All Conference. Had one school tell me to come play there that was D1 but I decided no. I regret it everyday of my life that I’m not playing. For anyone in high school just keep going and if you don’t get looked at walk on. Coaches also play a major role too and have there favorites. I remember this linebacker would receive credit for my tackles and I got upset and told my coach those are mine. He told me we are a team. Favorites is definitely how it is in high school.

That’s the best advice I’ve ever heard, thank you so much Sharpe to help Highschool athletes like myself learn that anything is possible with a positive attitude and belief. Certainly needed to hear that before my senior year where I have to show everything possible to get where I know I deserve at the highest level. Since I’ve been given obstacle after obstacle with injuries and coaches/players. Again thank you!

Once I played tackle football. I played kicker. I was the skinniest player on the team. I was also not that strong. Kicker made sense, but they actually put me at center too. It was crazy.

Happy birthday bro. And what you mentioned about talking down on coaches get you in a wprse situation is true. My high school coaches snagged about how fast, strong, and smart i was at my size. I was 5'6 160 with a 4.4 40, 315 bench and 405 squat, 585 box squat. I had no organized football experience prior to my 10 grade season. All i knew how to do was work out. I constantly proved that i couldn't be blocked by lineman or that our best linebacker couldn't tackle me. Yet after embarrassing my fellow teammates all week at practice i got no shine come game time. I felt like they hated me. I eventually had a run in with the law hanging with the wrong crowd and got kicked out of school for my junior year. I worked my way back into high school only to show that my workout numbers had improved. I practiced with a chip on my shoulder. Still to no avail. No i make music part time and im letting the same attitude get to me. Im constantly being told how good i am, and how much my music is wanted but im not really making moves. Long story short, i gotta suck it up and prove to myself how good i know I am. Cliff Avril DE Seattle Seahawks 8 year vet, Nolan Caroll CB 8 year vet are the guys i went to high school with. They were animals and Cliff was my workout partner. Talent was there and its still there. Look up Clay High School in Green Cover Springs, FL. Thats my alma. Also, vheck out Seth Paige Baker High, Glen St Marys, FL. thanks for this video bro and God Bless you. Happy Birthday G

Eh I can kinda relate, freshman year I started at corner and receiver but I was small 5’6 130 and coach knew I was fast so he put me on the outside thinking I could burn them deep, first game as a receiver 0 yards 0 targets 0 receptions on the defensive side I had a game winning pick six and instead of giving me a good job he got on my ass for me celebrating in the end zone and for the entire year all I was was an outside receiver who was expected to burn then deep and score a td, I’ve only done that once the whole year, then I moved near end of freshman year first practice in my new state (Texas) coach moved me to slot receiver and balled out because we run slants and out routes and shit and it fits my scheme and this year I have a fairly high chance at making varsity bcs of how well I played in spring

I had a similar situation in high school it even got to the point when during my junior year I got kicked off not because of grades or behavior but because the coach thought I wasn't dedicated despite the fact I put in more work then most of the players I started my freshman and sophomore year both year I was used to block most of the time so just imagine how I feel when I put in so much work just to get kicked of for something that doesn't apply to me th coach that year was fired and I played my senior but it was not great I didn't start and hardly touched the ball but I plan on proving my self at the junior college level. And to add my high school team sucked we had went 1-9 three years in a row

Happy Birthday Man, and this may be lengthy, but this is my story for me but with soccer. I was the star middle school soccer player in 7th and 8th grade. Was the guy helping before practices, staying late, pushing everybody to give it there all day in and day out. The middle school coach also coached JV soccer too. So when the summer before going into Freshman year at tryouts I gave it all. And after tryouts my JV/Middle school coach came to me and said “You deserve to be on Varsity, but there is a senior that is going to play the same, so you will ride the bench. So I’m going to keep you on JV” and I was frustrated and discouraged because I trained daily just to make it to varsity. And well we ended up winning the “conference champs of JV” the varsity team barely made it into the playoffs. And on the last regular season game the senior that played my position ended up getting hurt. So they were aloud to call up a player from JV, and they let me play. We ended up losing the 1st game of the playoffs, but i was still mad I didn’t play the entire season on varsity. Then the sophomore season came around. I played and started varsity, very good season, ended up to the final 4. But the varsity coach, told us after the last game it was his final go with HS soccer. So junior year came around, the returning players got to meet the new coach and all. And during tryouts he came to me and said, I know you are the heart of the defense but I don’t like the “Hispanic style play” and we won’t play that, we do as I coach and that’s it. So I let it go, we were projected to be the best team in our conference and we ended up losing the first 4 games. And I told the coach we don’t play like that, we need to be more physical and aggressive (Hispanic style) and not defense wins game always. So after mid season we were 7-9 and I ended up stepping in a hole and spraining my MCL. So my coach told me I was too weak and that’s why it happened. And after a few weeks I was healthy and the coach told me I’m done for year for not liking the way he played. We ended up 7-15 and I told him after the last game, we play aggressive and physical, that’s how we win here. And he didn’t like the comment and said if I wanted to play like that, to transfer schools and they will but he’s not. So I said no, I’ll sit out next year and cheer on my friends and teammates my senior year instead because they are the ones I have played with for the past 8-10 Years. And well up until right before tryouts I told myself I’m not playing. I too would talk bad about my coach and that he didn’t know how utilize players abilities. And after months of my friends pestering me about playing I finally gave in and said I would tryout and play. But the day before senior year of tryouts I was playing at an indoor complex and I got pushed wrong and ended up tearing my ACL, MCL, and PCL all in the same knee. And when the coach asked why I didn’t tryout and I told him, he still told me that is because “I’m weak” but too this day that’s why I quit soccer. I turned down 5 offers to play still at D1 and D2 (UNCC, NC State, Catawba, Ole Miss, and Phiffer) but it’s only because I let 1 person take the love of the game away from me.

Sharpe, I feel your pain man! The same happened to me in HS. I wasn't as big as you but I was 6 ft 180 lbs ran a solid 4.5 at the time. I could do everything I was asked to do. I finished my senior year with 19 catches and 9 TDs. However our last game in the playoffs i got 0 target and was even replaced on a package that was designed to get me open. All because my replacement had more speed than me. We worked all week on that package and he was never involved, but come gameday i was given the boot. I then went to college and turned down an offer to play D3 ball and pursued my education. I look back all the time and think about my mindset. Mathew 17.20 is hands down my favorite scripture and it has changed my life!

I feel you sharp! Good message and story. I am going through something similar. My head coach loves me, he’s one of my favorite people on this earth. He’s helped me out more than anybody, on and off the field. But I have this feeling(which I’ve had for 2 years now) that my offensive coordinator doesn’t like me. I play Quarterback and I feel like with everything I do is not good enough and wants this sophomore QB to take my spot. Your video has taught me to keep my head up and keep trying! Thank you

Bro I feel it my freshman year I played tight-end and defensive end and I was only 5’7 and 135 pounds but my natural position was wide receiver and line backer and I was a starter for jv but then they had a junior start over me but I could block and run routes and catch. Then my sophomore year I was 5’8 gained 10 pounds went to 145 pounds went to all the practices and lifted and never missed and practiced and always watch game footage I got switched back to Wide receiver and they had me on special teams for varsity games then when we were up big for a game they put me in and I had 10 tackles 3 sacks a forced fumble and fumble recovery at the beginning of camp before the season started I had a strong performance at the 7 on 7s caught everything thrown to me and at practice I ran good routes and caught everything and my wide receiver coach told me I could probably start but I didn’t because of the seniors by the end of my sophomore season I finished with 14 tackles and I didn’t even start going into my junior year I thought I was going to start since I had a good training camp and was lifting and running good routes but they left me on the bench and they had a freshman start over me so I quit then my I tried playing again my senior year once again went to every practice and lifted everyday but the moved me to fullback and running back because I could block given I was only 5’10 155 at the time I ran the ball hard but I wasn’t even put on special teams first game I 2 touchdown saving tackles on special teams and I got no chance to even start and then they kicked me off for missing one practice it’s mentally hard on someone who puts in the work and have people who work less to get something they don’t work hard for.

Hey fam I can relate 100%. I’d get told by parents that showed up to practices and games also certain teammates told me that I should’ve been a starter on varsity or at least gotten more time than what I did. I really felt the same way you felt of thinking that I was a horrible player but except I actually went to my head coach and spoke to him in the most respectful way with still getting my point across of not being used right and done wrong. The head coach straight up told me to my face that “you’re not as good as you think you are”. As a sophomore that really stuck in my head so whenever I went in I’d second guess almost every instinct I had as a player. I thought like you that my senior year I’d get my shine but you know that didn’t happen and I realized by game 3 of our season that I wasn’t going to play so as I dropped some tears on my last game with that team that I kind of grew up with. I left. I was crying because growing up all i watched a lot of football but I watched the high school team in my town and it was dream for me to play for my high school but to be denied by the head coach hurt. It wasn’t even like I was ass. I played LB, long snapper, and tight end because I was a team player and realized that I had to put the team before me. I dominated at tight end (except I wasn’t the best blocker 😂) we ran a spread tho so it was ok. I climbed to the top of the depth chart as a TE in that spring of my sophomore season and when the season came around. I was back at LB. But after I transferred to Prime Prep (yea I know we got shut down) I realized I was sorry at all. If I was there by the first game I would’ve easily had the most tackles on the team. In that 1 year alone of me being able to actually play. I received multiple Division 2 offers and 1 Division 1 offer and interests from other Division 1s. I’m not saying I would’ve been ranked at my position but I know if I was given the same opportunity at my original high school. I would’ve had at least a few more Division 1 offers. But thank you for your story tho bro.

Sharpe, that is so true. I never thought to use a positive mindset. See, I am going into my junior year, but can't play this year, cause I didn't train enough to play, so I couldn't try out for the team. I only got my senior year of high school to actually do something with football. I have never played a snap, or down of football in my entire life. It seems so distant. Playing football on a football field. I don't even know if it will happen. It is just so improbable. I just have to follow what you said though. I need to have faith. Even if it isn't much faith, it's God's plan, I still have to try. You can't let little things, or even big things get to you. You gotta stay postive, even when it's hard.

And then one day in practice he let me get my shot and I impressed my team mates and him and he even said I was better then the starting quarterback. So he said I was gonna play in the next game but he was gonna switch out the starter and put me in the last game but when the game came he never put me in. I was not popular in middle school, every single player 8th grade was a popular Jock. I trained for a year before and joined in 8th grade. I worked my ass off and became starter and captain. This shocked almost everyone. Going into 9th grade there was a summer camp at this college 2 hours away. It was 400 dollars I couldn't do that so I didn't go to it. Turns out alot of guys went come. We start July camp and i am refused a playbook and dnont get one for 3 weeks. I end up becoming the 7th WR on team. Coach said because I didn't have body to block. I was 125 6". Coach split guys between starters and bench on buses and conditioning. I played scout every day. Never mattered. Next year I break ankle in week 4 coming off bench as a CB. At this point I plan on coming back and showing everyone wrong. I really do not have a love for game anymore. It's just something to do now.... Sad in a way

So in my 8th grade year I decided to play football for my middle school, it was my first year playing but I loved the game and watched college football every Saturday. So I wasn’t very good but I wasn’t awful. I was second string fullback and in like the third game right before half time our starting fullback got injured so I played the whole second half. And it’s not like I did anything terrible and when I was wide open in a pass route the quarterback decided to throw to a man who was completely covered so he threw an interception. Then all the sudden I was starting fullback. Guess what happened at the next practice, they moved a tight-end down to fullback out of no where. I over heard the running back coach talking to him and he said something like did you study the plays that we went over on Saturday. I was broken inside and I wanted to quit but I didn’t I just powered through hoping that one day they would play me but nah I was just s first year fullback who they had no faith in and I was like 5’9 like 150 so I wasn’t a small guy. So freshman year rolls around and my mom really wants me to play but here’s what I told her, “I’m not going to do all of that work, try as hard if not harder than the starter and not play a second” so yeah that’s my story I still love the game and watch Michigan every time they play.

Sharpe I can relate really well to this, my freshman year I had never played football before but I was 6'1" 160 and definitely the fastest person on my team. The problem was that my coaches put me at guard on offense. I also played outside linebacker and really proved that I was a good player but they wouldn't move me on offense. My next year they made me a running back but they wanted me to only play defense so they never gave me playing time. When I finally got to varsity it was better because my coaches finally decided they could use my speed. They also moved me to strong safety on defense and that was also good for me. But I can remember thinking about quitting everyday those first two years because of how my coaches were using me and also treating me. I'm a senior right now and am going to play football at a California Juco in the fall.

I’m only in freshmen football and it’s not the coaches, but the qb’s. We have 4. One plays more at corner and the other is fair about his passes but two of them only pass to their friends. For three months I only got one pass in practice and I dropped it because the play was dead and he threw it anyway. It sucks but I know I’ll do better when I get the opportunity and when season starts.
