Why I Stopped Playing TF2

I quit TF2 but I love TF2 but I hate casual and I want servers back in the browser #Volvo2017 gotta catch robin walker and gabe newell before they remove something else we enjoy!

It's on my list of video essays but I want to wait until I get really dug into the game again like I did with this one. I like to be passionate about the topics I talk about, otherwise what's the point? I'd just be complaining for views at that point and that's for dickheads. I'll likely make one eventually but for now I'll say they fixed most of my complaints except the one biggest one. I want to be able to select a server from the server browser and join it. That's all I ask for. Yes it may fuck the balance, but its casual. It's meant to be fun and I don't find queueing fun. A lot of it is fixed but I still feel passionate about how putting it all behind a matchmaking system is a poor choice.

Before the casual came, tf2 was constantly fun to play, I never got bored. Now that casual came I lost motivation to tf2. I played Overwatch, but the thing is that Overwatch can't ever replace the old tf2. I got bored to Overwatch after lvl 300 because the game didn't have anything new to offer... They are trying to get heroes out 1 for 1 season and it's getting boring. I played tf2 for 1000 hours without getting bored because you could change weapons for new styles to play. I really wish tf2 would get pubs back so I could go get another 1000 hours for tf2. I just didn't have the motivation to play after the update came.

Well, Overwatch is 1 year old. TF2 in the first half year of its existence had only stock weapons, and only 6 maps. When it was a year old, it got 10 new maps (5 of which were arena maps), and 9 new weapons for 3 classes. Overwatch started with 25 heroes, and added 3 during the first year. It started with 9 maps. During the first year, it added 7 maps, 4 of which are arena maps. So far, young Overwatch is behaving very similar to young TF2.

You couldn't change TF2 weapons either in the first half year. In the Pyro, Medic, and Heavy update, each of these classes got 3 new weapons, giving each of them 8 possible combinations, for a total of 30 possible "Heroes". But before that, every class was just as unchangeable as an Overwatch Hero. Perhaps Overwatch will also introduce something that adds a lot of variety to the way you play Heroes. But even at this comparison, I would argue that 24 extremely different Heroes is a bigger variation than 9 extremely different classes with 21 slightly different side classes. Not to mention several of these weapons made the stock weapons obsolete, (Ubersaw, Axtinguisher, Sandvich, KGB), so really there were only 16 "Heroes" to choose from. I do agree that Overwatch is getting a bit repetitive, but I think I would've found early TF2 more repetitive. Full disclosure, I joined TF2 in november of 2011, but I can imagine exactly how the game would play with pure stock and 9 unlocks, and Granary, Badwater, and Steel being the only good maps at the time. Bottom line is, I think Overwatch will keep getting bigger, to the point where in a few years it will have enough playstyles to keep us coming back. Just like TF2 did.

i saw a video once, it was an SFM. it was about the feel of TF2, a sniper getting a head shot, a heavy being low on health and a "medic" coing up behind him to heal, but then it pans out and we see the medic dead while a spy wears a medic mask, a pyro is around the corner about to spy check him. this is what TF2 was all about. I saw a comment on that video that, at the time, was meaingless but also gave me anxiety. it read " when I log onto TF2 and all the servers are empty, and all the players are gone, i shall watch this video and weep". i dont think I could have said it better myself

Basically the same story for me. TF2 was the original reason I had actually gotten steam in the first place, it used to be the only game I actually played for a while, but slowly it started dying with the release of Overwatch and such. I somewhat lost interest, I played more and more CS:GO. When I heard about the meet your match updated I got super hyped thinking it would maybe give the game a little bit of life and revive it in a way. But it was fucking horrible, I don't know if y'all were there for this but queue times even for casual were always more than 10 minutes during peak hours (for me at least) and that's when I somewhat accepted its fate. I still play TF2 with friends sometimes, but it really does make me sad to think what TF2 used to be and how much fun it was for me. I've been mostly playing H1Z1 and CS now and still refuse to play OW because I'm still a butthurt TF2 Fanboy.

Yeah I feel you on most of the points you made especially with trying to play unpopular maps like plr pipeline and nightfall it hurt watching maps that I loved to play become abandoned though I thought well at least I have ctf well and sawmill and it hurt me more when I realized some of the first 2 maps I played where gone and it hurt me more to see them forgotten like those gshock servers. But I still love this game and I still play it even if it got harder to find those great moments.

CrazyRandom Soldier unfortunately most community servers now consist of instant respawn 2fort servers with many types of wacky wonderful gamemodes but it has no place for us few. I mean just search ctf well or plr pipeline and you'll find none sadly and most people would rather play upward for the 50th time so voting for either would be highly unlikely.

It's saddening, but a huge part of the community wants tf2 to become a more competitive game... They asked for matchmaking and similar terrible ideas, such as "switching team isn't normal" or "people randomly joining the server shift the balance", and most importantly, separating valve servers ("serious" games) from community servers (fun yet not always better servers). They don't want a silly fun game, they want "serious" stuff. But here's the thing: tf2 was designed to be a casual game, not a competitive one. One of the few things that would save tf2 would be the removal of the terrible casual mode and its matchmaking, making team switching and adhoc connections possible in valve servers, renabling them in the server browser, removing the crappy useless XP system or replace it with contracts, that are way better, and maybe also bring back the replay system to valve servers. Separating valve servers and community servers is one of the stupidest things the community have asked and valve listened, like tiered and all-class cosmetics ("because I want more customisation even if it doesn't fit at all." * cough* the hazmat headcase being available for sniper * cough*) or season passes (halloween was always free, why should other season events be paid? That's stupid), skins (not the worst, but not needed), etc.

Pre-MYM TF2>Overwatch>current TF2. I remember seeing Gun Mettle, reading through all the patch notes, not sleeping because if hype and then getting my ass handed to me since the DR was the only watch I could play with at the time. I still felt the same with Tough Break. But with casual TF2 just stopped being casual... It felt like half-competitive. I play TF2 now once every 2 months on a local community server. I used to play that game all the time in QP. But... that's gone. And I genuinely want to cry when I think about how TF2 lost it's charm...

I don't know if its just where I live, but casual wait times are usually under a minute, even for maps like degroot keep. My only problem with mym is the balancing system, how you'd be stuck on a small team of f2ps and the other team full of people with 2000+ hours, but yet the balancing system does nothing to try even out the teams and make the games fair.

Im still Playing TF2, no offense guys im F2P, i have the achievements hats, variety of weapons and few cosmetics. This is my childhood games, its so sad Valve doesnt care for their games anymore, few times i cant get to a Server, so i play on Communitty Servers, Yeah it take a lot of Time to get in but youre right. I miss the old TF2, I hope the Pyro update saves the game and Community. Becuase Meet and Match is a Mistake, I dont know but i dont want this game to die. Genaro Siles First off, people will give you shit for being new regardless of the game. Second, no offense for being a F2P at all. That just means you haven't spent money on TF2 and you only have 200 slots in your backpack. Third, speaking of the Pyro update, I predict this is going to go down like Gun Mettle Update: it overall makes the game better but a lot of people are still going to complain about it. Let's face it, Pyro will never be balanced. He's too strong against new players and too weak against experienced players. His entire play style depends on the enemy's foresight. What I'd like to see is for the Soldier to get tweaked. But in short, yea. We're all going to keep mourning the old system until Valve gets off their overworked asses, hires some more people and finds a way to make up for all of this chaos.

I agree. tf2 was magical for me when I first joined. I have over 8000 hours in the game (most is afk but whatever) and I don't wanna see it die such a miscalculated death... I don't wanna take the perverbeal tf2 horse with it's now broken leg and have to put it down... I'd rather be there watching it walk over the horizon in one last final stand for good, or at least be there when it passes away peacefully in it's sleep.

Casual isn't all that bad now. I'd say it's even better than quickplay now. Really, the only thing that would make it better would be to lock the map voting to the gamemode the map is currently in, that way people just don't leave if a gamemode they don't like is selected. As for everything else, casual is more balanced, has more people playing per server, and for the 30 maps I choose (mind you I don't select hightower, 2fort, and swiftwater), it takes me aprox 10 seconds to get into a full game, from the begining of the game. Only rarely do I get placed into games mid round, and I hardly ever get placed into a match with 2 people. And if I do, it takes 10 seconds to get into a new game with people playing it, so it really isn't a big deal. I don't know if it's just bad luck, but I never experience the same problems you seem to experience as of now.

I recently stopped playing tf2 like a month ago and the update drought really killed it for me,(I use to play the game daily since 2013) nearly a year without any changes made me branch out to other game modes that would later die a month later. But when the winter and March 28 update came out I was really disappointed with the updates, they didn’t fill the desire for new content and soon would lead to me quitting.

I wanna cry over a game that died long ago, but died even harder after that MYM update came out from hell. But I still have hope. They say they're "Taking their time with the new pyro update to provide a well-thought, quality update." apparently. It's been a while, so I hope it's true. I hope they essentially backup TF2 to before that cancer then add something the community actually wants. Otherwise, 6700 hours well spent, but... feels wasted.

I spent 1k hours on tf2, which was one of the best games I have ever played. But since "meetyourmatch" I quit. There were times where I tried to come back. But Im aren't as skilled as I used to be, which is pretty frustrating and it just isn't as fun as in the old days. Back in the days, I could join official servers without waiting to get matched for 20 minutes.

I'm experiencing no such problems. Sure, I might get some empty servers sometimes, but I usually get enough players about 5 minutes into the match. I have time anyways. Then again, I don't have the old server search engine to compare it to (I very recently got the game), so it might be worse than I expect.

Support for custom maps usually disappears before a fandom leaves. Also the death of net neutrality will kill many FPS networks.
