Im so glad this wasnt another “god told me not to wear makeup” video! No offense to those videos, i just like hearing about the practical reasons why other women stop wearing makeup. I especially loved how you brought up the social conditioning and cultural standard in the south!

Since I stopped wearing make-up it feels very freeing. It saves time and money! After I wash I don't put that goop on my face. I do still wear lipstick 'cause I just like it. 😊...and I tend to look pale without it.

When I do wear any, I wear lipstick too. And sometimes use a dash of the lipstick for a light blush. I love a good multi-use tool. Do you have a brand you love?

my mom was a beauty queen, miss kansas 1977 and I was in modeling growing up which had a big impact on me. I always thought my mom looked beautiful with no makeup, showing off her sun spots. I would tell her this and she didn’t agree. I have a daughter and I let her play with makeup, she seems to like it. I wear very minimal now and I love that. I feel like I look awake with some makeup on, especially as a mom. you have beautiful skin and look beautiful without makeup!

I love wearing makeup! I am 60 years old and have a great complexion. Never wore foundation and use high end, anti-aging skin care products. Creams and serums. That being said, I still love to wear mascara, eyeliner, eyebrow pencil and lipstick. Applying my makeup feels like art work to me. It's like a self portrait. It's fun!

Thanks for this! In my early thirties I’ve recently embarked on being make up free and showing my two daughters with similar fair colouring, they are beautiful. I love the fresh feeling of not wearing make up.

I actually had a really interesting interaction at a friend's house recently when my daughter wanted to play makeup with the other girl. Rather than say no and explain how harmful what was in the makeup would be (how I used to handle it). I let the exploration happen and she was so pleased and proud of her eye shadow. But it made me think of the pride that some may feel when they wear it. Similar to the pride I have in not wearing it. Just a thought...

I can totally relate…thank you for your video…I grew up all through my teenage years wearing thick heavy foundation to cover up acne scars that I got from the makeup to begin with only to make it worse…messed with my self esteem tremendously…I couldn’t even go to the corner store without having to put on foundation….I always envied women who could just wash and go with their skin out for all the world to see. Now that I’m older I haven’t worn makeup in five years (I had to force myself to stop when I was trying to get to work on time and it was summer and I put on the foundation only for it to sweat off my face (plus I was already in that time of life so I was feeling hot and flushed most days) and I just broke down crying and couldn’t take it anymore…so I just cold turkey stopped! Best decision of my life! Yes I had to endure the strange looks I got from co workers who didn’t recognize me and yes I had to go through so major trauma with showing people what my skin really looked like without foundation, but my skin has finally healed and cleared up so much I am now envied by many women who wish they could wash and go like me! There’s nothing like feeling the cool breeze on your face, or the warmth of the sun, or be able to cry freely without worrying about my makeup smudging, or just going straight to bed and getting a good eight hours without having to wash off makeup or waking early to put it on! The only thing I may indulge in wearing is a little lipstick but that’s all! I feel like I’m living my best life now and my latter days are better than my former! 💃🏽💃🏽🙏🏽

Wow, I can totally relate to this, and thank you for sharing. Have you reintroduced makeup in any way with your new relationship to your skin? I find it interesting to wear a small amount and the constant awareness that is required to maintain it when it is on the skin. The carelessness and freedom of not wearing it feels so amazing.

@@HalleSweetPea honestly I’m trying not to ever introduce any foundation, not even powder, to my face, nor concealer….I’ve endured too much heartache and shame to go back to that…it only takes a little and then next thing I know I’m back to feeling like I look better only with makeup! I’ve finally developed for a change a self love for what I really look like, even accepting the fact that I actually have pores! And I really love that others actually wonder whether I’m wearing makeup cause my skin really got that much clearer! I do still have dark circles under my eyes, which I’ve always had since childhood, but I’m trying to be accepting of that (though I have to admit I e had moments of wondering if I should just give in and put concealer on them and only there), but I really want to just wash and forget what I look like and just focus on the world around me). I make sure my hair stays clean and shiny, get regular checkups on my teeth, focus on skincare, get my eyebrows trimmed, and introduce color to my being in the form of jewelry accessories and wearing more bold colors (back in my youth all I ever did was wear black cause I never wanted to be noticed). And since I’ve started walking at least 10000 steps a day I’ve grown such a love for walking and getting more vitamin D into my body and again just feeling the coolness on my skin and not worrying about sweating even in the summer time (I just get those oil sheets in case I get oily in the summer cause I have oily skin (which to tell you the truth my skin seems to have become more normalized when I stopped wearing foundation all these years, so it’s not as oily)! I’m sorry if I’m going on and on but just have to share in my rejoicing that I feel like I’m getting a second chance at really enjoying life! 🙏🏽

If I was blessed with such a beautiful complexion as yours I wouldn’t wear makeup either. Unfortunately I struggle with rosacea, and I’m really self conscious about it.

thank you, I really appreciate it. it was not always this way. I think switching my focus from seeing flaws in my face to appreciation for the healing is when I saw big shifts.

Wearing heavy eye make-up looks ridiculous. A little bit of eye make-up is supposed to enhance your eyes. Too much makes you look like you're made up for Halloween. But some women do like that extreme look. To each their own. 🙄😊

It really depends on the trends I’ve noticed. For a while the heavy look was in and I’ve noticed the layers have gotten more subtle semi-recently.

I don't wear makeup and I love not wearing it it is so freeing. In addition to that its so much better for my skin to not wear it and I save money as well. Retailers just push the makeup for money and I am not giving into the hype. I am happier without it. I have naturally curly hair and Love it now. I just wash towel dry and put in some gel and let it air dry. I used to spend so much time straightening my hair and hurting my neck doing it. Basically the past few years I have changed my life for the better and wish I had done this years ago. I have been makeup free for 3 years now and will never go back to makeup.
