Why I switched from Simrad EVO 3 to Lowrance HDS Live

After owning 2 Simrad evo 3 units paired with Airmar 1kw dual chirp transducers TM265LM and TM275LHW let's talk about my new Lowrance HDS LIVE 16 inch unit and how it honestly compares to the Simrad evo 3 series, so far.

Quick tip. You should "pause" your transducer while running your unit out of the water to avoid the transducer overheating and damaging it, ecspecially if you are running a chirp transducer. Both Simrad and Lowrance have this functionality.

Adding an S5100 improves the deep water massively and can track bottom. The targer seperation is a league of it's own too.

I just finished installing my new 16 inch Lowrance. On charts has the option of displaying Cmap and Navionics. In the menu have High res bathymetry option and better still Genesis layer displaying high res contours contributed from other users. Impressed.

@@BaitBallin It's a feature not turned on by default. If you are using CMAPs for your charting (which most modern Lowrance units tend to use by default nowdays) there is no need to download anything further (But I would always recommend updating the unit to the latest version). Just select it under the "More Options" -> High resolution bathymetry on your HDS unit. You will then see a great deal more in terms of contours and depths. The detail is actually amazing, once on. Note that once the unit is powered off and back on Lowrance units do not remember this setting.. That is you will need to turn on "High Resolution Bathymetery" at every power cycle. Its a quirk/silly bug I've noticed and the unit doesn't remember that it's been enabled. ++ Extra Side note: You can also log your own sonar charts with your unit to micro sd card and upload to the c-maps website and create your own depth contours on ocean you've covered... but this is a paid offering any isn't really needed. C-maps will happily take your sonar data that you upload but not so happily/freely share the depth view of ground you've covered via pc with you. They do have great maps though!

Nice video.. You compared the Simrad NSS 3 with the Live but what about the later model 3S? Would you say the Live is faster than the 3S?

Who knows, jury is out on that. This one definitely has a faster processor than Evo 3. Maybe not S. But right now it's good value

Will you need to mount an external GPS antenna due to the location of your unit? Looks like it might be a bit hard to get a solid signal. I enjoy your contents.

@@BaitBallin … no you will need the point1, it speeds up the accuracy of the gps allowing the arrow to point correctly instead of spinning around

Bula, hey man yeah they are a great transducer and will work well for what you want. They aren't chirp but are better value than the newer transducers at the moment. If going chirp, the tm275lhw or 265lm would be worth a look

Nice, easy to use interface, excellent maps etc and plenty of transducer options also. You can't really go wrong and they are also very well priced at the moment. I've had a few similar Garmin units and liked all of them. They used to only offer single channel chirp, but off memory that one is dual chirp

I've always been happy with the gold series or what ever. About $350. I've had the premium ones but for my usage I don't really see / get a benefit. Garmin inbuild blue charts are the best out of the box charts I've used.

Hi, I have tm 275 lhw and hds live 12 . Dealer also send me an Mmc 9n2 cable . Mmc cable has low frequency and high frequency heads. I do not understand how should I connect the mmc cable to the channels on the hdslive. Any advice ? Thanks in advance

Plug them both in to both availed sockets on back. 2 plugs. 2 sockets. Then turn on and configure in settings.

175 is an in hull not 185. Low frequency is fine at speed if installed correctly and 1kw is more than enough for any game fishing until you get into Omni territory. Installation installation installation most important of them all.

im currently running both on my rig, without all the opinions, Simrad trumps Lowrance period. There is a reason why the are more expensive, regardless they are recognized as the flagship to Lowrance. If you know you know. Most people dont require the in-depth advanced software Simrad provides. Hope this helps

Hi mate You missed out Simrad evo3s is faster then live and much more better for off shore fishermen. Lowrance desing for Lakes and in shore. I have them both. But you can't go wrong with navico.

Simrad and Lowrance are owned by the same company so guessing that they will both be launching a new model soon? Maybe they doing a run out on this model? Also what transducer are you currently running? Are you going to upgrade the transducer, and if so what would you be looking at getting? Cheers

Hey it's just the standard gtm51m or what ever. The side / down view thing. Probably going back to a 265lm or 275lhw again. Or maybe through hull 185 and keep this one

No I do. They are excellent! Just no good for offshore work, marling bait for Marlin etc. Need 1kw at least for that.

@@BaitBallin if its not there theres also 2 options under the charts for cmap from memoryn one being the basic and one being the good ones. If you fish high trafic areas theres also a fair chance theres some excellent detail with the gennisis overlay from others boats recording the bottom

Pause your sounder when not in the water and using it,buy the 5100 and add to the simrad tm275! Simrad is king!

I was searching who do have a video that says abouth if simrad is better than lowrance, and I found this video which did mention some important information I was searching for. For some half year i am searching for a fishfinder for my need and found that simrad and lowrance give me more satisfaction for my need bud which can reach 300 meter and show me the fish down there and still give me excellent image. You say that to fish the deep waters the lowranse with 1kw is the one above simrad besite that furuno brand is the best above lowranse and simrad. I did searchnyour videos but did not find a video where you did search deep with that fishfinder.. or maybe you have made that video, and I didn't find it ? I have smal 14-feet open ŵooden fiber fishing boat on my trailer and i need to get to know a fishfinder that give me the fish and that clear bright image of them in the deep 90 meter up to 300 meters. You day that a device with a transducer of 1Kw is the one that will do that job. A FF with aseven inch creen is enough for me it must not be the last model on the market bud a device that will give me bright image of the deep water fish no matter the sun on me. I have a 27 fishing boat also bud i have to repare some one the body and change the inboard motor.. I am now to fishing to lie from it

Simrad and Lowrance units both do dual chirp transducers, if you don't need that, Garmin makes good units for single chirp which are a good price. In built charts are also excellent. Up to 300m you could get away with a 600w transducer. Furuno makes excellent gear yes, the 585 is a great sounder.
