A non-technical testimonial from a former Canon Full-Frame user, I really love the Fujifilm experience, and for anyone out there that is considering switching, or is just curious about Fujifilm's new cameras then this video might help you. I left my former full-frame life to start life with the Fuji X system, with an X-T4 and an X-H2s. I'm almost 2 years in with the X-T4, and decided to sell my last remaining full-frame camera, a Canon R6 (former EOS R and 6DMII) for the Fujifilm X-H2s. I have no regrets about this decision and thoroughly love the Fujifilm experience. Feel free to ask questions in the comments!

I came to Fuji in 2013 right around when the X-E2 was released and no one knew who Fuji was. Everyone thought my little Fuji cameras were film cameras. When I told other pro photographers about Fuji they were super skeptical and thought their DSLR's were way superior and were blown away by the Fuji colors. Now it's become a hipster icon and seriously considered for professional work. I have had people ask why my camera is so small, but complimented on how cool it looked at the same time. I have tried Sony and was not interested in the colors and over all soulless look and uninspiring function of the camera. After nearly 10 years, I'm still all in on Fuji. Love my X-H2s and X-T3.

I had a similar experience. I switched from Nikon to Fuji in 2012. The X-Pro1 and X100s were a fraction of the speed current models are at, but I loved the small, lightweight system and immediately bonded with the EVF. I used Sony for 4 years. Great technology, particularly the GM lenses, but the system simply got too heavy for me, someone who shoots 25 weddings a year and occasionally does 16 hour days.

I got the X-T4 as an intermediate camera while waiting for the A7iv back in 2020, thinking I'll get rid of it soon enough. Didn't expect to love it so much. After I got my hands on the 18mm f/1.4, that sealed the deal. It was the perfect camera with great colours out of the box. Film simulations and recipes meant I was happier with my personal shots more than I was with my Canon or Nikon.

Fuji cameras have a habit of doing that. I originally thought my X-T4 would be a B-cam/vlog vacation cam but it quickly became primary camera and I didnt really ever expect it.

I used to be a Fuji fan boy since the X-T1, even working for Fuji part time and evangelized other fellow photographers, but in 2019 I had an introduction to Sony's far superior AF system and so I switched to full frame. Now almost 5 years later my requirements have changed and I do far less weddings or people photography - and am more into traveling which requires a smaller and lighter setup. Also Sony was releasing the 6700 APS-C body and I was thinking to lower the burden on my shoulder and was evaluating the smaller body. But still there was the really big and heavy low aperture lenses. At the same time, I started looking at the Fujifilm system again - I realized that they had largely closed the autofocus gap and were now very well suited to my style of work. Well, to cut a long story short, I sold all my Sony full frame gear and got back into Fujifilm. I am thrilled with the X-H2 and especially with the fact that there are now other lens manufacturers like Sigma, Tamron and Viltrox that also make excellent lenses alongside Fujifilm. And although the Fujifilm lenses are smaller and lighter, my complete equipment has actually become bigger than before - but for the same money that I got before for a handful of lenses and a body. In the meantime, I'm even thinking about getting an X-S20 as a second body. Then I really have a small camera that is, for example, with the Sigma 18-50/2.8 a perfect always-on camera - and at the same time can serve as a VLOG and B-roll camera. But what completely thrills me is the scene that has emerged around the film simulations and recipes. If I wasn't already thrilled with the camera itself, this alone would be a reason for me to switch back to Fujifilm.

I'd been struggling with the weight of my Canon DSLR system (6D and a ton of L-series lenses) and so I picked up the X100S just to give Fuji a whirl. I fell in love. I sold all my Canon gear a month later and bought an X100F and XT-30.... fast forward to today and I have an XT-4, XT-3 and that XT-30 still too :-) I am not sorry that I made the swap at all. Full frame simply wasn't worth the fact that I rarely took my camera out because of the weight. Now? My camera goes with me, wherever I go.

Whenever I am on the fence of whether or not I should finally get a FF camera I borrow one for a few days, realize that the image quality isn‘t even remotely what I am used to with my Fuji system and then I just happily return to Fuji awesomeness. I tried them all - Sony, Nikon, Canon - I even bought an S5 and returned it a day later. There is just nothing that gives me that Classic Chrome look that I use for almost all of my projects. With the X-H2S (have one) Fuji just entered the real game, not only the one for lovers and I am so excited what the next few years will bring, now with Tamron and Sigma on board and Canon shutting them all out. I‘m pretty sure that more and more creators will have a look at Fuji and once they fell in love, they‘ll never return. Just today a fellow wedding photographer asked me about how I work with Fuji. His A7III is giving him a headache and he is considering switching. Thanks Miles, for sharing your take on this.

Thanks for your perspective as well! Really wasn't a hard decision when the results speak for themselves. Once one can break through the stigma that aps-c is NOT a downgrade then everything seems to work. We realize its about the enjoyment of making the product and the product itself, Fuji just makes it a little bit more fun than the others in my opinion, and thats a big deal! Really don't regret making this move at all, and hope the video helps anyone that is struggling with similar scenarios!.

I’m in the same boat. I’ve been a canon shooter for 10+ years. I have the R5, R6, RP, M5. I’ve also owned the M50 and 60D. My frustration with Canon has been the failure to put out a complete lens lineup for the RF system and failure to fix the overheating on the R6. I’ve decided to keep my R5 and sell my R6 to get the Fuji XH2.
@MilesChatterji
@MilesChatterji Жыл бұрын
That was a big issue that I did not touch on. I had a lot of frustration waiting for new RF lenses to come out. I did not want to spend money on older EF lenses and adapt them, knowing that the RF version was coming in the future and I wouldn't get nearly as much money back trying to sell an EF. Then the fact that they have no plans to allow 3rd party lenses ( Not that I used many anyway ) didn't even give us a chance to bridge the gap. It was really frustrating!!

I was a hardcore full-frame Canon user, until I came across the X-T4 a couple of years ago. I bought it first because I loved its size and appearance. When I saw the first pictures in Lightroom, I was shocked. Fuji literally changed my life. The size of the cameras allows me to remain discreet. The quality is excellent. The engineers at Fuji work hard to deliver excellence. I still have the Canon 1DX Mark iii, which is an excellent camera for low light photography. But the Fujifilm is the one I always use and trust. I now have the XH2 and I love it. I use some of vintage manual lenses like the Nikkor 180 f2.8, and Fuji gives these lenses a second and well-deserved life.

I've gone between the A7 series and Fuji since their first gens. Finally made the final decision to stay exclusively with Fuji 100% yesterday. With the rumours of an impressive X-T5 coming, I've held on to my X-T4 and lenses and let go of my extensive collection of Sony lenses and A7RlV. There's a certain personality to Fuji that just gives me joy.

Hi Michael. Good comment. I sold all my Fuji kit to get a nice used A7R IV and some lenses because I wanted to be able to do heavy cropping for printing. Lovely kit (colour science a bit dodgy) and even with a 70-200 f4 at full reach the ability to crop to maybe 20% of the frame when tracking a moving aircraft captured below sight line in mountains is brill. Plus in Macro all those megapixels can enable one to see the hairs on a bugs arse (for US citizens that is ass). Then on a whim I bought an X-E4 with the 27mm pancake, for a carry around and street, to be followed by a used 18-55 and a 70-300. So guess which kit I reach for most of the time? The Sony kit isn't going anywhere. Brilliant professional grade stuff. The weight of it and the nature of the shooting experience makes it more suitable for planned shoots. Times when things are determined beforehand. Fuji is for everything else and the sheer pleasure of creating images using the system. In a few days the X-T5 is being announced. That or the X-H2 will be my next purchase.

I would love a GFX100s the video on that is pretty good, although admittedly I probably wouldn’t use it for much video due to the kind of video I normally do, versus the size if the GFX bodies. I do think that the next round of GFXs will have some video traits taken from the X-H line. Gotta hand it to Fujifilm for giving us options! If you are happy with your X-T3 then you would surely LOVE anything out of the X-H2 or s !

i went through the same thing... i started with FF in 2016 with the Nikon D750, later went to the A7 II, RII, A7 III. At one point i was handed an X-T3 by a friend, and i loved it instantly. So 2020 i went for an X-T3 + X-T30 with the lenses i needed. Today i'm using the X-H2 (non S) and X-T30 and with the release of the Viltrox 75mm 1.2 i finally got a replacement for my beloved 135mm f1.8. I'll never look back personally. Sure the AF in todays Sony's and Canon's are better than Fuji's, but honestly: i hadn't one occasion where the AF performance hindered me in getting the shot.

My situation is so similar to yours. I have an R6 and an R. The difference is I used to shoot with two X-T3s and I LOVED Fujifilm - loved it. But the autofocus on the X-T3 struggled when shooting weddings at times and I really was struggling to deal with the worms in Adobe. So I bought the R6 when it came out. But now that Canon has announced they won’t be doing third party lenses for the R mixed with the announcement of the X-H2s, I’m really tempted to switch back. Or at least buy an X-H2s, see how I use it and then maybe sell the R gear later on. Excited to see more videos on Fuji from you! Congrats on your new gear.
@MilesChatterji
@MilesChatterji Жыл бұрын
Yes I can see how you would need better AF. I am not a wedding photographer, and honestly stay away from that as much as possible lol. Af is not something that I considered to heavily in my switch as I predominantly do landscapes, where I am almost always doing manual focus for focus stacks, or HDR or something of that nature. Or Street photography, where the AF does help a bit, but there are so many other factors such as how fast the subject is moving and whether I wanna pan to match their speed or leave a little motion blur, polarizers to go through windows etc, and AF doesnt really (for me personally) play a huge roll in that. As long as it finds an eye or head, im usually okay, and my X-T4 can do that just fine. Then on the video side a lot of my vlogs the AF isnt as important as long as it is working, and in my upcoming work the shots are pretty controlled, and manual focus was used. However I totally understand your scenario, as AF in weddings especially as the lights get dim through the night or in darker venues can be extremely important! The R6 is a much better option for that scenario compared to X-T3! So I think you made the right choice to continue your business! The X-H2s however so far is doing great for AF performance for me. If you are interested in switching to one for weddings I would recommend renting one first just to make sure that it can work for you as expected!

I have recently became a Fuji shooter. I do weddings and I got the x-t3. First wedding I HATED the auto focus. I had to mess around with it and these are the settings I run weddings with now for AF. AF-C Custom Settings: Tracking Sen: 0 Speed Tracking Sen: 2 I’m saving up everything to get the X-H2. That things autofocus is amazing. Plus it cost less than a RF 1.2 lens. I’ve been falling in love with manual focus lenses so I want to keep my x-t3 for going 100% manual. I hope you come back to Fuji!!

i own a xt3 now. coming from sony FF user. out of curiosity i bought an xt10 because i was burn out from editing photos and i just want a smaller, compact, b cam to work with. i didnt want to bring a full frame go out and shoot street and only come back later to edit the photos because i didnt like the colors. so i started with a used xt10, upgraded to used xt2, and end up with a brand new xt3. (the price between used and brand new wasnt that big amount here) The xt10 really blown my mind away. even though it was an old small camera. the raf files can recover alot of details thanks to capture one. the jpeg were fun for jus shooting and the provia was already good enough for me. because of this, i eventually give up the smaller size xt10 and went for xt2 and now xt3 because it has better benefits in terms of dual sd card slots, potrait tilt screen, weather sealing. I still use my sony a7 (for studio work) while my xt3 can go from casual street to some serious work. for me, sony give the best low light and have better resolution and dynamic range, give me "more" bokeh etc. while fuji is just use as it is, ignoring bokehs and just shoot it yet has good raw recovery using capture one. the most important thing is depend on each user. i still love my full frame sony, yet i prefer to shoot using fuji most of the time for its color and raw recovery. both are important to me, but i enjoy sharing fuji colors and benefits to almost everyone i talk to. i am still considering a smaller xt20/30 in future but for now i will make do with my xt3. Also, its good thing you left the canon eco system as canon ban all third party lenses for RF. while fujifilm finally open up and allow more and more third party lenses to come in

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this. I'm having the same back and forth in my mind but with trading in my GFX 50s. My thought being that the XH2S would be a great video and photo hybrid, and it would simplify and lighten the gear load. What you mentioned about wanting to grab the camera and go, that's what I'm missing with the GFX. It's perfect for portraits, but it is clunky for anything candid so I rarely feel like dealing. But man, when I look at the photos from the 50S... it's a tough call.

I'm on Sony full-frame and I'm really close to pulling the trigger on the XH2-S. Whilst I love my A7III and A7sIII, I really hate the lack of software updates many year post-release. I see what Panasonic and Fuji are doing and I'm thoroughly impressed with all the tools and features that are being implemented into cameras that are cheaper than their rivals. I feel like the XH2-S is a camera that can replace my two Sony cameras and simplify my work. The XH is so competent in both video and stills, it's extremely impressive. Another big consideration that I didn't think of were how much cheaper and lighter-weight the lenses are. Lugging around even one or two fast-aperture lenses was getting in the way of me taking photos and wanting to go out for long periods. I want to enjoy using my camera and I feel like that is more important than just raw specs.

Youre in the right place then. Big selling point for me was how good the quality is for the price compared to larger sensor cameras. While the quality is generally a little bit better its not that much better when taking the price into consideration. Then after editing it makes little to no difference at all making the price points a no brainer for me. Fuji is still new, only 10 years in the digital space and have come really far, I have no doubt that they will be a huge contender in the future, maybe even replacing some of the bigger names that are lacking behind. Anyway I think that you would be thoroughly happy with a Fuji, best of luck in the future, and thanks for stopping by!

Well, APS-C did replace film. The only reason for full frame digital was lack of wide angle lenses for APS-C at the time of conversion. APS-C proved to be better than full frame b/c you could actually nail focus easier. You also get the benefit of more light with better DOF. Currently the camera manufacturers are still benefiting from photographer ignorance.

Sensor size is a distraction, it's the gear you use the most that's the best value. I film more and more with a < £500 DJI Pocket 2 (mini camera on a physical gimbal) which fits in my pocket and deploys in seconds LOL. You look and sound good on camera, I wish your channel well.

I am still a bit but after spending some time with the camera I can see some benefit over the X-T4 as far as resolution and even a little on the video side. I havent published any of the videos yet but Ill get to it soon, I wanna make some over street photography with fpv action cam footage as well. Most of my vlogs are about photos, locations etc. Still trying to master making vlogs that have value, but the X-T5 is proving to be a good and only camera that I need to both vlog while still using its high resolution power to make excellent photos, while trying to explain how im using my technique, without having to have another camera as a video camera.

Yup! There aren't many real differences to consider in the aps-c vs full frame debate. There ARE differences, but they are simply not as great as they seem and shouldn't be worth our fretting. For me, I do consider the better low-light performance of full frame, as well as the shallower depth of field. Then, is that performance difference worth it for my photography? The depth of field difference, while aesthetically more pleasing on full frame honestly, is not a practical issue for the photography that I usually do. I do, however, find myself in low light situations quite often. While I definitely would rather have the full frame performance there, the difference isn't enough to worry about, especially with the ability of more recent software to deal with noise. I was considering going back to full frame from Fuji (though I do have a full frame Nikon DSLR still), I would actually be giving up many advantages with the Fuji system.

The only frustration I experience with my X-T4 is AF-C and Face detection with fast moving subjects (my kids). I haven't had a chance to use the H2 or H2S yet but it sounds like they've finally cracked that nut. I might rent one or the other, or hold out for the X-T5 since I'm "invested" in that ergonomic style after almost two years with the X-T4. I've flirted with the idea of switching to an A7IV or R6 strictly for AF before - and the idea just doesn't excite me for a variety of reasons. So I'm glad that these new bodies might be making that kind of switch unnecessary. Exciting times for us Fuji users. I do have a question - with the X-T4 I use AF-S nearly all the time. Only AF-C when I'm trying to track motion. On a Sony I would use AF-C nearly all the time because it was so reliable that AF-S wasn't necessary. How are you finding the H2S? Which focus modes are you using and when? ps - If you like the 16-55, you've GOT to try the 50-140!

@@kmwong1786 I dont have any idea, however you can still write to ssd if that becomes available, and use a $20 dummy battery to plug it into an affordable v-mount battery (that is about the size of a power bank) and that would work the way you want it to. Otherwise you could use a battery grip as well and load it full of batteries. I personally would go the dummy battery route. But I can see if power can be delivered into the bottom port. My guess is no, as there are additional contacts down there that tell the camera when the grip is attached and what kind it is.

I was Fuji fan and I still am. What ruined it for me was, when I volunteered to take picture for a family with their Sony A73 camera, somewhere hiking in the woods. AF on Sony was so much better, that I ended up replacing my Fuji with R6 for all the portrait and documentary work. Still have Fuji, but I sold everything except 35 f2, 50 f2, 16 f1.4 and traded X-T3 for X-Pro3 to match feeling of my beloved X100V. Fuji is for having fun, Canon is for having job done.
@MilesChatterji
@MilesChatterji Жыл бұрын
I both agree and disagree. I have never used an XT-3 in a low light situation, but the X-T4 with the dual native iso, coupled with fast lenses performed much better than my R6 at night. Fuji is indeed for having fun, but I started using them professionally slowly after realizing they worked better for me than my R6. Needless to say we all have different needs, but I needed better low light performance and I'm poor, so I couldn't afford the 50mm 1.2 and other fast lenses etc. The 24-70 f/2.8 was one of the best zooms ever. However I just couldn't get low light video out of it without it hitting 25,600 iso or higher, while the 16mm 1.4 (I shoot wide for video, but also vlogs, and landscape photos) on the fuji was not only cheaper but rarely hit 10000 iso in my night videos, typically 8000 which with the dual native bit was more than usable in those situations. If Canon had a fast 24mm (they now have a 1.8 although I wanted a 1.4) and more of a lens selection at that time, then I "might" have stayed with them. However Fuji having better video controls and more settings available to me (selectable bitrates, fast photo/video switching etc.) It made it easier for me to use my X-T4 as a one stop shop for everything, both photo and video where achievable with a small lighter system that was easier to transport, and when the X-H2 arrived it was very easy choice for me. Especially with all of the AF quirks worked out. I do miss my R6 from time to time knowing the lenses where better, and stabilized. But at the end of the day I'm still happy, and able to get the job done a little cheaper, while keeping the fun factor all the time.

@MilesChatterji
@MilesChatterji Жыл бұрын
Im not sure, I have not used M4/3 in quite some time. I would have once said that APS-C would be a compromise, but with how technology has evolved even APS-C has low light capability and bokeh that can contend with FF. Yes the Micro 4/3ds is way too much of a compromise; it can't compete in low light against APS-C and Full-Frame; plus greater latitude when editing photos from larger sensors; and you have a great compromise with APS-C when it is to depth-of-field; go for the Fujifilm XH2-S

The only time ff makes sense is if you’re a zoom shooter but you like bokeh. The 2.8 die hard zoom users for ff. Yes fuji has great bokeh too especially the fast primes. But I know some people like Tony Northrop who just love their zooms but still want that shallow dof. For most people it’s not a big deal bc if you’re a huge bokeh lover you’re probably using a fast prime. But for the few stubborn zoom users it does matter a tiny bit One more thing I love about fuji that rarely gets mentioned is they are kind of future proofing themselves with the gfx line. When ff and crop cameras die bc phones just catch up with the results bc of newer technology medium format will be the next big thing for professionals. And fuji will have a huge head start there

Excellent! Let me see if I can help! The models I spoke about in this video are not the easiest for a beginner. Depending on what kind of aesthetic you are going for, if you were to choose Fujifilm I would probably recommend an X-S10 or an X-T20. The X-S10 is more beginner-oriented, it looks similar to the X-H2s (deep grip, and mode dial on top). While the X-T20 looks like an old SLR, with shutter dials on the top of the camera (you don't have to use them but they are functional like old film SLRs). They both have the same electronics and image sensor (26 megapixels). They can be very forgiving for a beginner, but also very powerful as you move forward, and are moderately priced, giving you a good entry to buy good lenses that can be used on future models should you choose to upgrade.

So a few where: lack of stacked BSI sensor (Nit pick but this is nice in the XH2s because it eliminates IBIS wobbles, and spaghettification of straight lines in moving shots/stills), lack of full sensor readout with 14 bit downsampling, lack of 4K120, lack of dual ISO integration, lack of any 10bit video outside of a canon log profile which forced you to use LUTs or color grade your footage if you wanted to use 10 bit video, and lack of RAW recording, advertised 14 stops of DR, but only technically measured at 11.4 even in CLOG3, and still photos that where only marginally better than Fuji for a price that is twice as high. Youre at an advantage because youre coming into the world with a camera that is an aps-c version of the Sony A1, Canon R3, and Nikon Z9. While performance of all of those are going to vary based on user and use case scenario, I think you would notice a big difference and frustration if you switched to an R6, after having produced several things with the XH2s

Perhaps, but I havent used any lenses yet that can compare to the RF 50mm 1.2 or 85mm 1.2 sure there might be some out there but I think the aps-c line of fuji will need to catch up some. Never used any of the medium format stuff so im a bit ignorant in that regard. As far as cinema yeah I think even the cheaper fuji MK line of lenses is far superior to anything that exists. But in this video I was talking specifically about the x-mount lenses which there are a few great ones, but they are starting to age. Now the new 56 1.2 might give that RF 85 a run. The 16-55 is actually sharper in my opinion that the 24-70 RF but the lack of stabilization the obvious and harsh aperture steps make video tough sometimes so I favored my old 24-70 canon more. However I do think time will change this for the X-Mount system and now youve got me wanting to play with GFx lenses. But my broke self can only rent them at this time. I have those goals though.

This is very interesting and kinda funny for me :) I switched from Canon Dslr´s to Fujifilm about three years ago and have been happy. However, for shooting portraits and family sessions I started to think: "Why am I actually not using full frame?" There´s always this last bit of quality and 3D effect I just cannot get when using Aps-c- although I have lenses like the 50mm f1,0 and 33mm f1,4. And so I recently bought a Canon Eos R + the RF 35mm f1,8 IS and the monster RF 50mm f1,2 L. I even borrowed another R and shot a wedding with with the Canons once again. I must say I prefere the user experience of the Fuji but the quality from the Canon is better + it has much better AF than my X-Pro 2 and X-T3. So now I still have all my Fuji equipment and the Canon R with the two lenses (both brilliant, btw) and not quite sure what I´ll do next :) I don´t feel like shelling out so much money for a Fuji camera that can finally focus properly (the H2s)...So I´ll just continue using both systems and we´ll see.

The 50mm 1.2 RF is probably one of the best lenses ever created in the universe, and I dont think ANY other brand of camera can come close the quality of image of that setup. So I feel you there. AF as never played a really important role to me being a predominantly a landscaper, however for anyone doing weddings I can see how it would be a weak point. Im not much of a portrait person either so some of these things werent heavily considered in my switch. I do some street, but that is a bit of a tricky area as subjects are usually moving, AF helps but even so they are moving so quickly having to switch shutter speeds an pan will get tricky no matter the system, but I have been quite please with the X-H2(s) AF performance at this time. I am excited to see if the new 56mm 1.2 will bring anything close as the RF 50mm 1.2 to the table, probably not but one can hope!

I still reach for the Fuji more often than the Canon because of the size and shooting feel, and recently picked up the 33mm f1.4 because I love the 50mm focal length so much, but it just doesn’t come close to the RF combo. I been battling temptation of selling all my canon gear with the release of the X-H2s, but in the end, every time I shoot with the RF combo, I know I’ll never be able to get that kind of image quality out of any fuji kit. So, I’m here with you, shooting two different systems for different purposes. I love them both and can’t seem to settle on one or the other. haha

@@laurormrz Exactly! I´ve just come back from shooting a newborn session at the family´s home witht he Canon R + RF 50mm f1,2. And man, the results...! I just realized what bugs me with the Eos R- it´s the lack of joystick. I´m so used to moving the AF point with it that the touch option I find much slower and I actually never exactly hit the point I want :) With the Fuji I just move the joystick and I´m where I wanna be. As far at the Fujifilm 33mm f1,4 goes, it´ s probably my favourite Fuji lens. It´s surprisingly sharp and I no longer fear to shoot practically anything wide open at f1,4. Then again...I must not to bring the Canon along to compare it with...:) In any case Fujifilm is a very capable system for anyone and finacially makes much more sense.

@MilesChatterji
@MilesChatterji Жыл бұрын
@@Jgheiler I went with it for stills because it is the same tried and true sensor as the older 26mp only with some improvements and a stack for faster shooting when needed, and improved DR. Also like several other people out the I really didn't notice much of difference between the 26 and 40mp sensors. They looked the same to me as far as quality of the actual pixels, sure the image overall was larger, but it didn't really make enough of a difference for anyone that would be consuming my content to notice (YT viewers, IG, and print customers.) Also having the older slightly larger pixel mapping is helpful to me for editing the way I do. Sorry to hear it about your PSAM adjustment experience. I never really used the top dials on the XT and prior I used canons, so I set the XT up to use the front and rear command dials and buttons to quickly change settings. I found the top dials to be a little bit of a hinderance if I was trying to do something quickly and often turning a dial one too many and having to turn it back one, and by that time the shot was gone. I also realized the top dials only have so many shutter speed settings while there where far more using the front and rear command dials. I set my xH2s up for stills the same way I set up the XT which is the front dial is shutter speed and the rear is aperture. That is just a habit from my canon days where I didn't have a selectable aperture on the lens itself. I use the iso button to change the ISO but I rarely do, I set it at certain isos for certain times of day, and just let post processing handle and kind of adjustments as these cameras are ISO invariant so, in LR or C1 ill change the exposure first which will set a baseline then edit from there. So for people like you, I would suggest the front dial for shutter, and rear for iso then use the aperture ring to change aperture. You might find it odd at first but trust me it wont take much time to adapt. This will also help you get used to many other systems including cinema cameras. I mapped the last button on top below the WB button to recall C1 which is my preferred video settings, so I can quickly change like the switch on the XT system. Its far better to map it to recall than to use the movie setting and press record. Fuji hasn't figure that bit out yet. So my C1 recall is for my video settings in 4k, and if you press the button again it drops you back into photo mode right where you left off. I have wanted to write this for some time and I can not wait any longer. I deeply resent having to subsidize videographers for all of the tech they require which are mostly useless to still photographers. Why camera manufactures will not put on the market a pure still photography only camera, with ZERO video ability, is beyond me. It’s a no brainer. My suspicion is they fear there would be a sales drop in video centric camera sales. But imagine all of the extra return sales generated by photographers who have already bought the much more expensive video/photo (hybrid) cameras who would love to have a simpler stills only camera. The cost to make them would be small and they could still overcharged for them and it would still cost less than the video/photo cameras. Come on, there must be one camera maker bold enough to market a video less stills camera, right?
@MilesChatterji

I have no idea, I personally prefer one camera for both because I typically will do both in the same location at the same time and I dont like carrying multiple cameras. Especially when some of the best views out here are in rougher areas where you wont want lots of expensive gear with you. But I do understand going for a street session and only wanting to take photos, why you wouldnt need all the extra bits. If I were to only take photos in a place where ive already done video or a place with no desire for video it would certainly be appealing to me.

It's interesting - for those of us who have been with Fuji for a looooong time, we look at all these changes they are making as negatives, not positives. It seems like you weren't overly experienced with the tactile feel, and easy use of, the dials, switches, and buttons from prior models, so the loss of them was not a big deal. When I saw the PSAM dial on the X-S10, I was like "uh-oh", this is not a great sign. Once the H2s was released with PSAM and priced at $2,500, Fuji was basically inviting it's loyal customers to go try other cameras. I tried out the R6 (not impressed) and A7iv (very impressed) and ended up buying the Sony. Fast forward 2 months and, like you, I now look for an excuse to go out and shoot with my A7iv. I'm getting results out of this camera (primarily for video) that I never got with any of my Fuji gear. I'm not super skilled, so I rely heavily on AF, and Sony's AF system is pure witchcraft. Totally unrelated - this video has a very strong green color cast to it. Your other videos don't have it, so am wondering what you did differently. Glad you are enjoying the Fuji! I'm hopeful the T5 offers similar performance and specs to the H2, but with all the dials we want, at a reasonable price.
@MilesChatterji
@MilesChatterji Жыл бұрын
Interesting you went with Sony, I feel that the X-H2s is really similar in terms of PASM and physical structure. You are right I have only been with Fuji for 2 years, and while the dials are cool, they dont benefit my style of shooting, I change shutter speeds and aperture, very fast, and if I cant do it with my fingers already in the ready position I will probably miss the shot, and operating the fuji dials was just too slow, at least for shutter speed. Literally if I take 5 photos in 10 seconds each one probably will have a different shutter speed and aperture setting. I like to do manual HDR stacks and other things like that which is my reasoning for that. And the dial didnt have all of the shutter speeds that the finger dial had, which I always thought was strange. I shoot in manual most of the time and the exposure compensation never made sense for me to use in manual so those 2 dials I could always have done without. So the X-H2s really works for me the same as the R6 did. I understand a lot of people take it as negatives, but Fujifilm has such a small grasp on the market that without opening up in the way the did they, and open to change then they might not stick around forever, at the end of the day its a business for them and if you cant keep up then you usually end up closing your doors. Which would be very unfortunate. I also realize the price point being higher was upsetting but I have a hard time understanding why people get so upset, after understanding how much they put into the camera, and they need to make money off units that cost more to manufacture especially with a stacked sensor. I still feel you get what you pay for and they delivered quite nicely on that. They have publicly stated on more than one occasion, and you can see one article in this video, where they stated that all other lines of the cameras will retain the same physical form factor etc. So the X-T5 will surely be the same just with newer sensor tech in it, which is great for customer retention while the X-H line will help bring in people like me from other brands, and once they see what a great value it is perhaps they will extend their collection in to other models as well. Never know, but I think they are making the right decisions in terms of business.

It's almost as if Fujifilm only makes a single model of cameras. X-T, X-Pro, X-E vs 1 single PASM X-H line. Come on... Just wait for a while more. Every company launches flagships and then trickles the tech downwards. You don't launch an X-T or X-E with a new sensor before launching the X-H.

I've gone the other way, and after 10 years of shooting exclusively with Fuji, I've jumped to FF. I found for my paid events photography, they just couldn't quite cut it in low light and higher ISO. I've still kept my X-T3 and brilliant 16mm 1.4 (best Fuji lens ever), but my paid work shots (with outdoor fill flash), are just much nicer on my two Z6ii bodies with the lovely Z lenses. The thing that kicked me over line to swap from Fuji, was Fuji themselves. I waited the last few years for the rumoured H2 bodies to come (I had two X-H1's), and the deal killer for bother of them was that wretched swing around screen. I'm a photographer not a videographer and I felt that Fuji bypassed us to appeal to the masses who shoot Vlogs. If you don't shoot video, then that rear screen is a deal-breaker. Once I saw that both of their models had that horrible screen, it helped make my mind up to move to FF. However, I'm happy for you that you have enjoyed your move to the H2 - I'm sure it's a lovely camera.

I suppose, but neither S1h or S5 has a stacked sensor, so they are still in the ballpark of the other full frame price points like R6 and A7IV. Also keep in mind this video is for hybrid shooter, not necessarily video only. The Panasonic models tend to lean heavier on video, which is great but with all of the false color, waveforms etcetera, can easily make a hybrid or photo shooter that wants to get into video gradually turn the other way. The Fuji models can do similar attributes with the use of an external monitor for those that want to grow into that. Not sure about Fuji being lazy as their new lineups are their first attempt at any of this, and sits right up with the big 3's flagship models at this point. Your points are very valid though!

The lack of stacked BSI sensor, lack of full sensor readout with 14 bit downsampling, lack of 4K120 for timeline video matching, lack of dual ISO integration, lack of any 10bit video outside of a log profile, and lack of RAW recording, was a disadvantage for the R6, as well as the others you mentioned, and an advantage of the X-H2s for the video side. As for photo side, the photos where okay, but considering I had over $6k in the R6 with dual fast memory cards and a 24-70mm lens, and I have half that money in my X-H2s & it takes just as good if not better stills I think the X-H2s still has the advantage.
