Yes kashmir didn’t choose either side, initially. Pakistan invaded kashmir shortly after gaining independence. Hari singh, the king, asked india for help. Nehru refused. Nehru said that he would use the indian army to defend india only. So if he wanted help he would have to accede to india, which hari singh did. Pakistan did not accept or recognise this accession. Therefore the war.

Pakistan depends on China's money and support while India has independent strategic autonomy, we maintain our relations with USA & Russia at the same time. At this point USA needs India ( to counter China ) more than India needs USA. There is no other Asian country that can rival China in this part of the world. Japan has a ageing population, South Korea is too small and so are the rest of the Asian countries, that only leaves India ( 4th most powerful military in the world by firepower ) USA & India have common interests at the moment so we both cooperate for now. India gets the Tech, weapons & industry from USA, and USA gets the workforce, huge market & an ally that can fight against China if WW3 breaks out. As far as Pakistan is concerned, well at some point in future it will collapse on its own weight or India will do it by invading once the power differential becomes to larger ( I give it 20 years ), Nukes have been around for close to 60-70 years now, I am quite sure some anti Nuclear counter weapon will be developed in future if it hasn't been developed already by now who knows ?

Certainly, a nation the size of India received lots of attention, and could choose a side. Some countries played the US and the USSR off each other, in order to get the best deal. What happened in 1947 regarding Kashmir was, it was a princely state who decided who remain independent. However, shortly after the independence of the 2 countries, Pakistan marched into Kashmir. The Pakistani tribesmen started looting and raping in the Kashmir valley. Even the muslim element of the then army of the King of Kashmir, Raja Hari Singh went into rebellion. Raja Hari Singh asked India to send troops in order to help them. However, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru said until Kashmir accedes to India, we can't send troops. When Kashmir acceded to India, we started flying troops to Srinagar and forced Pakistani back until UN interfered and asked for a ceasefire from which the now border The Line of Control (LoC) took place.

First, Kashmir is not a trillion $ economy in PPP or otherwise. India’s GDP in PPP terms is about $11.5 Trillion. Maharashtra is at the top spot with over $ 1 Trillion. Kashmir does not fall in the top 15 in Indian states & UT’s so there’s no way it can be a trillion dollar economy (ppp). Second, Kashmir conflict isn’t anything like the Cold War. In the Cold War both Soviet and US blocs spent heavily on military & infrastructure. Pakistan can’t even buy wheat. 🤦🏻‍♂️ I don’t know where you get your information from. Third, Mumbai terror attack was in 2008. Ironically this year will be the 15th anniversary of the attacks. Since 2014 there have been no terror attacks on civilian infrastructure and population. Since 2019 & subsequently the abolishment of article 370, terror attacks on defence forces & entirety of Jammu, Kashmir & Ladakh have been peaceful. Have a good read and brush up on history before you comment.
