INFPs are precious souls. I’m awestruck by their immense creativity, but I am most impressed with their ability to maintain their boundaries. My sister is a classic INFP. Despite our challenges growing up, she has never ceased to amaze me 🥰 Her raw yet delicate expression of emotion through her music and artwork is incredible.

I’m an INFP. The most extraordinary relationship I’ve ever had is with an INFJ. Yet looking at our cognitive functions, it’s been pointed out that, in a very significant way, we’re opposites. Hold your hands out in front of you and look at them. They’re opposites, they’re mirror images of each other. But bring them together and they match up perfectly - thumb to thumb, index finger to index finger, etc. In a similar way, when we’re together, I extravert her dominant (introverted) function (N), she extraverts my dominant (introverted) function (F). Yin and yang, we fit together. We know, understand, and connect with each other in a way that - especially because we’re both introverts accustomed to being misunderstood - feels not only so natural, but almost mystical.

On this INFJ side, I will tell you why this happens using my example. I am shy towards women, aware of my flaws, I am an idealist, and at the same time I am a bit strange because sometimes I tell others my strange ideas. Now let's get into the head of an INFP woman, she sees normality that bores her, she looks for inspiration and gets lost in thought. And then suddenly there's this INFJ weirdo who behaves differently than most guys. He helps everyone, respects women, and is rather afraid to hit on INFPs because he is afraid of failure. This in itself is attractive to the INFP and distracts her from her thoughts. Therefore, the INFJ can easily become a point of romantic consideration for the INFP. For her, the INFJ is simply mysterious, unconventional. And herein lies the whole problem - the INFP sends unclear signals to the INFJ that she likes him. The INFJ sees them, but ignores them so as not to get their hopes up. Moreover, he is always busy with something. Please believe me that if it weren't for such programs, I would never have known about it and I would still be waiting for some INFP to make the first move. Or rather, she will never do it, because she will think that the INFJ guy doesn't like it, since he doesn't see these signals. Today I see these signals clearly. Previously, I thought the INFP was a cold woman who pretended I wasn't there when I was around. I look at the man, I see his attitude towards me. If it's cold, I'm also cold and often the door is closed forever. And these are such wonderful and perfect women for INFJs, for everyone. The INFJ who understands this can take the first step. But he can't do it right away, he just has to be himself and wait for the signal that will appear one day. Then he can take the initiative and learn the nature of the INFP. This is such a beautiful love, because the INFP does not judge what you look like, only what kind of person you are. The INFP plays his own games with everyone, and when the INFJ recognizes them, he can play the game himself and still win it. Then the INFJ begins to formulate a plan, and slowly begins to fall in love and gain hope. When an INFJ and an INFP are at least writing to each other at this stage, there is a good chance that such a relationship will succeed. The INFP has already made his plan and it is all in the hands of the INFJ whether he is mature enough to win the heart of the INFP.

Unfortunately I only know one infp, but it's so liberating to talk to him, it feels like I don't have to overexplain myself while with others it's like I'm schematizing my Ni thoughts to be sure they're making sense to others as much as possible. They also seem to understand emotions so well and are just so fascinating and inspiring

I have no trouble explaining why INFJ is instantly fascinated by INFP. Fi! Fi! Fi! INFJ is notorious for under-focusing on themselves. Thus all sorts of oversights, like goals and associated commitment issues can crop-up. Joint growth goals ,as well as life goals, are inspired between Fe-Fi. An absolute no-brainer quandary.

I am an INFP and recently started dating an INFJ. I adore him, his ambition, and his love for others in his group, but it seems with my love for being alone and creative when the mood hits me and his love for staying busy going to get-togethers with his friends, having game nights online with them and his need for alone time to recharge- has left us with little to no time actually to hang out together 😅

I am an INFP who has a brother that is a INFJ. We work so well together but after him telling me what he needs and wants. I like how he is about to give me a plan and focus. People give a INFP a bad rap for losing focus but the truth is we just need help with someone we can connect to help us. My brother sees my dreams but helps me to make a plan of attack. Also we both join the military. It was hard for him to make friends but it was hard for me to make fast decisions that will effect others. But because we had eachother we were able to develop strengths in some of our weaknesses.

I am currently dating an INFJ but also have many INFJ friends too. It's such a peculiar pairing... i have noticed as well with my conversations that my Ne will fly about topic to topic, question to question.. and they will follow. Refrences thaf have seemingly no connection due to my care free Ne... once the context is brought into play, they can track almost all of it at once. Also, we express our depth differently, but we feel it almost the same. Its interesting in my deep conversations with the INFJs in my life that they are able to grasp what feeling or emotions I am indicating. They can give a general description, and then I can hone in on precisely the word they were searching for in their pursuit of feeling. Lastly, there is this lovely interplay of wanting to challenge each other via some of their cognitive stack but not in the traditional sense. In fact , mirroring or attempting to mirror my poetry, the exact word choice or emotion helps them connect more with their Fi through Ni. You, of course, dont realize the interaction, but then when they bring up a heartwarming story of how they, an individual brought about group harmony, that would be me using Fi to then connect to my Fe to see the larger picture than just myself and seeing how I am incorporated in the affairs of others. It's seriously such a mystical bond. One that is hard to spot or understand, but once you latch on to it, you just dont want to let go.

I'm not sure if this will help in any way, shape or form, however, this is my interpretation as an INFP. I'm not going to pretend I know the function stack in any real detail other than, logically, it shouldn't work. It took a long time for me to embrace my inner weirdo and live in my own authenticity. It was only yesterday that I reconciled my existentialist view of the world with, what seems, the contradictory love of psychoanalysis and finding meaning in everything. It's because I want everyone else to be able to live in their own authenticity and find their own meaning for existing, by listening and facilitating conversations they would not normally feel comfortable having. As you said, this isn't something INFJs get a chance to do very often. As INFPs we know what it's like to feel misunderstood, and we feel it so deeply, that when we meet someone who is even more misunderstood than us, it feels like stepping into their soul and we just want to help. I find it helpful to also look at the INFP INFJ relationship from a Shadow perspective. Almost like if we integrated together we'd become the perfect personality. Does that make sense? It's our differences that on one hand can balance each other out, but on the other can become bones of contention if we're not mature enough to address them and see them in a positive light. And I think you touched on this, if we choose to see each others darkness we can begin to see our own, and only then will we truly understand one another. I don't think any other types have the ability to even go that deep into each other's psyche without imploding themselves. I think this is why INFJs, particularly males, don't quite know what to do with an INFP female. And, this is where I wish I had an INFJ to help me articulate the abstract because that made so much more sense in my head than when I started to write it🤯❤️

Such a wonderful video, Ren. As an INFP, I am never left unaffected by the profound capacity for depth and intellectual and emotional intelligence in INFJs. It does hurt when many outrightly refuse to give this (amazing) connection a shot because of the difference in functions or prior assumptions about Fi being completely selfish and inconsiderate. Other than a "fruitful" connection for growth, do you believe it is possible for these types to have a long term, deep emotional bond, be that platonic or romantic? Emotional connections are not all about 'growth,' there must be some feeling of rest and comfort too. Have you ever felt loved or deeply valued or part of the inner circle of any infp and enjoyed a rich emotional bond where you have felt welcome to be yourself and like you really mattered to them? Have been enjoying your content for years now. (: Much love and good wishes. Some of us INFPs absolutely love INFJs. There's some work to do with regards to communication and understanding initially but if the types are mature and willing to have a bit of patience, some very beautiful connections can bloom. Touched with your kind words for us. We have great value for the comfort your Fe provides since Fi can also be very self critical and end up as us blaming ourselves for everything in life.

As an INFP I can say yes INFJs are attracted to us--at first. I usually get the proverbial INFJ door slam somewhere along the way, usually due to me as an INFP seeing through the cute I'll call it manipulation INFJs will do. Or let's call it not having to be accountable to anyone do as you please attitude. Authenticity is key for an INFP and so when that's crossed and brought out, it "stuns" INFJs and they usually move on instead of wishing to discuss issues. INFP mediate too much imho but we don't put up with anyone's BS. Anyone's.

Same experience with Infj‘s. They are shining very bright at the beginning, but once the initial attraction Phase is over, they probably Intuit with their Ni, it’s not really what they wanted after all, somehow. Depends. I know two INFPs. One I'm married to and have never broken up with. Not even those 2 week things and then the other who is a lifelong friend that I end up losing my ever loving shit with about once a year. We had too many friends in common for the door slam to work as after I got over my initial fury I would miss the not annoying things about him. The difference between the two was personal growth. My husband has made slow and steady progress towards self understanding and even likes it when I take the lead. The friend is obsessed with the past to a pathological degree and will drain my Fe to a nub wanting to talk about the same things that happened 10 or 20 years ago over and over. Sprinkle on an identity crisis and compulsive lying and I run out of endurance. It's not a coincidence that two of the closest people in my life are INFPs but I NEED to see that character development and not feel like I'm watching season one over and over.

I had a strong connection with an INFP, but they wanted me to be a very specific way to accommodate what they would tell me their friends didn't like about me. I had to end the connection when it became clear that they were stipulating that I actually deny my personal identity and interests to stay in the relationship. I had already bent myself so far in trying to fit in that it was a no go for me. My ENFP roommate however gets my need to assert and build my unique identity.

I can see that potentially happening with an INFP if they are getting flak or pressure from friends or family that some aspect of the INFJ is nonconforming and rubs up against "group harmony," or at least "what others think" which is unfortunately important to the INFP because INFPs are sensitive to what others think of them, and consequently, their partner as well. But if they are not feeling that pressure, they would be ultra-supportive of the INFJs autonomy to grow into their own unique personal identity and follow their own interests. Many INFPs would stand up to the pressure to conform, because at heart they don't want to conform either, but some could easily buckle under it.

I always get along with infjs... until they try to read between my lines and push past my boundaries .... this puts me off so abruptly because its incredibly disrespectful to me... you have no business looking behind my curtain and the assumption that I can't handle myself is insulting... This is probably something that only immature infjs do. I haven't had issues with most infjs. It's just one or two that have decided they know my full picture... and they're assumptions are almost always wrong... it just causes more misunderstandings over them assuming they're psychic... when I'm a little too chaotic for a person to pin me down... when they only have pieces of data. Let it be, don't pry. Accept the chaos.

I think INFPs are more sensitive to individuals than to group harmony. They care about how you feel and who you are as an individual rather than about keeping the group happy. I see everyone as unique, therefore it's seems very natural to me that each person will be different in their own way, I don't expect people to be like everyone else. Fe want to fit in, but it's like to fit in with an INFP you're actually expected to be yourself rather than to conform to the group. An INFP will usually see your uniquness favorably (unless you're violating their values) and encourage you to be your authentic self. It can be very liberating to some people.

I kind of come at this from a bit of a different angle. I got into typology to understand myself. Always asking why, (can someone say existential crisis much) but having difficulties figuring out the answers. That being said; I am not deeply into typing others. If we connect, we connect. If not that's okay. (I will be evasive in the literal sense :)) I have found that my Fe is so strong that I am almost a slave to keeping my dealings with others as harmonious as possible. Darned Fe! Well at least now I why I do it. Maybe I will seek out an INFP to bounce off some of my overly- ambitious Fe with their more-balanced Fi. :)

@@RensRoom I had to laugh when it ended up in one of those memes. We always just seem to end up together somehow without even trying. I don't know about INTJ women, but if you ask INTJ men about their dating history and what their "type" is (type in the dating sense, not the MBTI sense) there's a whole lot of INFP going on there! My most major past relationship, she told me several times, "you're just so practical!" (which helped her through stormy waters), and that she specifically missed having my worldview in her life. Personally, I'm trying to branch out and experience something other than the usual INTJ-INFP dynamic I always end up in... but wimmins is wimmins. ;-)

@@RensRoom Word of warning though: when they go dark, there is almost nothing in this world that's going to bring them out of it. We'll go to the ends of the earth trying to bring them back, but odds are, they'll take a chunk of us with them.

I think INFJs and INFPs have very similar souls, temperaments, ways of understanding the world and an inherent warmth in the eyes. However, they are extremely different in terms of achieving what they want. INFJs want to see changes, experience physically the things they envisioned. INFPs, on the other hand, want to imagine freely this things and act only if something hit their inner feelings. That can cause A LOT of misunderstandings. INFPs seeing INFJs as hypocrites that just follow the crowd or the tendencies to see changes (in reality INFP feels envy because they struggle to remain that compromised). INFJs seeing INFPs as a selfish individualistic person that just wants to be the main character (in reality the INFJ feels envy because they struggle to put themselves first, and also to feel important and deserving of love). When they are balanced, however, everything flows. The whole Universe smile in peace. Because everything is balanced.

I’m an INFP our feelings control a lot of what we do unfortunately. We are kind of flighty. While INFJ’s are committed and structured. I would say INTJ’s have this quality to. That’s part of the reason we are attracted to them. They are the bones we INFP’s are the flesh.

I'm on the other side of the divide... having secretly decided that Fi is my least favourite function 🤫. The problem being that it's just not... Ti. And that may largely account for the arts/science divide in INFJs. And the couple of good INFP pals I've had just don't seem to get me on any fundamental level (whilst apparently not realising it). That said, they have challenged my Fe by talking REALLY LOUDLY about VERY PERSONAL things in ENCLOSED CROWDED places, which I'm sure has been super beneficial for my personal growth.

Don’t you think Fi is both a challenge and a source of growth for Ti, though? Getting out of Ti’s comfort zone?

Not sure if I agree entirely. I'm talking about the notion that another personality type completes us or heals us. I don't think that is the essential way of becoming a more whole or complete individual or personality. I guess my thinking is along the lines of: creating a problem that isn't even there in order to suggest how it might be fixed. No, MBTI is not the whole answer to life the universe and everything. MBTI is not the savior of the universe, it is just a tool that has a degree of usefulness. I don't think relationships are meant to complete us or make us whole (generally speaking). You can't rely on a relationship (generally speaking), particularly a romantic relationship, to heal us or make us whole as individuals. [Of course something like talk therapy is another story, as the relationship is solely about the healing of another person using healing approaches.]

We get out of relationships what we put into them. This goes triple for INFPs, because of being gifted, yet underachievers in their self-talk.

My limited experience of INFPs has led me to believe they are very different to INFJs. All the functions are different for a start but I find them too subjective and judgmental. In owning their feelings it makes them narrow minded imo. Te inferior makes their logic too worldly and weak, meaning they readily follow convention. Even John Lennon, who sang about changing the world, was very much in the world. He loved money by all accounts and was not that nice a man.
