Simple as that My Android phone unlocks when shown a picture of me but my iphone could never. @@outatime626 as person working in company which develops software for apple, trust me, there are no apps that work heavily on background, at least not for longer than 10 minutes. iOS kills them after few minutes. If an app makes too many wake-ups it would be again killed fast. GPS or music apps rely on different api's and keep foreground processes. Even so, they are still being killed. Example is Spotify, if you use it, you would notice that suddenly the player on your lock screen disappears after you've stopped listening to music for some time. Well the OS decided to kill the app for some reason(apple music isn't affected :D). If too many push notifications are sent -> same result. Some larger apps like Facebook, Viber, WhatsApp have the ability to receive more push notifications(with permissions granted by apple) which can wake the app more often and sync some stuff on background, but you can always disable this, although the OS still limits them at reasonable levels.

For security, never use biometrics to unlock your phone. Naturally, someone could force you to unlock it with your fingerprint. Some may be able to trick some phones or computers with a photo. But one thing people often don't realize is that police can hold your phone up to your face to unlock it and search your phone without your consent...legally. Use a pattern or set of numbers that isn't related to your birthday or address.
@babybirdhome6 ай бұрын
That may be true of Androids, but with any iPhone, all you have to do is press and hold the power and volume down button for a second until it comes up with the power off prompt, and biometric unlock is disabled until you enter your passcode/passphrase no matter what police would like to do. If you want to protect your privacy, just make sure any time you get pulled over, the first thing you do is grab your phone and press and hold your power and volume down buttons until it vibrates - then your device is unlocked and you cannot be compelled to unlock it or provide your passcode or passphrase. But what you SHOULD do is go into your settings and enable complex passcodes, so that you can use more than just digits to lock your device - that makes it a lot harder to break into. Although if you are a criminal, don’t think for an instant that law enforcement can’t get into your device if they really need to - they can and they will if they believe you’re hiding something from them. It just isn’t cheap or easy.

For people who don't know, the Secure Enclave is a separate, specialized chip on the logic board, and is the same place where your passcode information is stored, and where all the device's full-disk encryption keys are stored. It is entirely separate from your iPhone's storage. On most modern iPhones, it is literally impossible to break into it; leaked documentation for government devices to break into iPhones admit as such when listing the devices they support, from a cold boot they can't break into the phone and they can't extract any useful data either. So far there have been no hardware flaws discovered which could provide access to the Secure Enclave in any conceivable way. Even the phone itself does not have read permissions on this chip; rather, it passes information on to the Enclave to process it, and the Enclave returns the results of said processing back to the iPhone. Biometric data is stored on the Secure Enclave as well, as a list of hashes made using the 3D dots map as input. This data cannot be extracted even if Apple wanted to. It was intentionally designed that way.

And even on user data in general you're missing something, because the user data thing can be solved by turning on Advanced Data Protection, which end-to-end encrypts all of your iCloud data except for iCloud Mail, iCloud Contacts, and iCloud Calendars. It's on by default, you can turn off manually with "settings" -> "FACE ID & CODE". Windows also introduced such thing with latest Windows 11 Update called "Recall" taking a picture of your Desktop every 5 seconds to analyze data, also there you have to deactivate manually.
@ironspider68516 ай бұрын
this is not even remotely similar to windows 11 recall. iPhone attention awareness checks whether there is a person looking at a phone or not. so, there is *no* photo being taken. the ai algorithm actively checks whether there is a person in front of the phone without taking any pictures. whereas Windows 11 recall takes pics of your desktop and *stores* it for future use. this includes your browsing history as well.

Let's be honest, they most likely do use the IR sensor to track other facial features, and how would you know if they stored the data or not, and even if they didn't how would you know that they won't be able to track it if they want to. The saving battery gimmick can be very easily replaced with the already incorporated MEMS systems where the phone has an internal gyroscope and it knows if it is held or not. It would make no sense to hold the phone as if you we're using it if you wouldn't be looking at the screen.
