The battery health still says 51%! Also Reprogramming The battery does not transfer the battery health. That's directly correlated to the batteries Capacity and is measured by the board

That tools has an option to restore cycle count or reset capacity. Do that to original battery before copying to new one. You’re welcome. Had to do this on my sons iPhone X. It did the same thing to me as yours.

It definitely seems that the battery capacity was transferred from new to old battery using that battery programming tool. @Phone Repair Guru should look into that. And since its his friend maybe try and do a battery swap-swap-swap with that old battery and the programming tool to see if he can get the phone to report the correct battery capacity of the new one.

It’s because of the new iOS version… the % will get stuck reporting the last reported value for 2 weeks maybe 3 (that’s how long it takes to recalibrate the battery)

I don’t think that’s the reason to be honest. The System always rechecks the Battery’s Health every time there’s an iOS update and even without updates, the System will check on the Battery’s Health every now and then. I’ve had a situation with my iPhone 7 on iOS 13 last year where my Battery Health dropped to 82% in the morning but was back at 84% when I recharged my phone after school. iOS probably rechecked the Battery Health and then showed the accurate percentage again. The same thing happens during every single iOS update so the percentage doesn’t get stuck because of recalibration or new updates😅

Hey. I think peeling the blue sticker it looked like you ripped the back flex. Usually, even with frame separation, the screen is normally okay. You did the right thing though. You showed that even professionals can make mistakes, repaired the mistake at your own cost, and kept your customer happy. That's what separates you from other repair shops. If a repair store claims they never break anything, they're lying. You were honest and admitted to it. Keep up the great work and content! :)

You need to restore almost the settings to get the health percentage recalculated, sometimes restoring the phone the percentage change even if you didn’t change the battery

I’m very surprised you decided to do that for the iPhone X. I’ve never done any of that so I wonder why you did. The A11 and earlier phones don’t have the same trouble that the A12 and later phones do. The battery issue is only on the XR, and XS and anything after that.

Battery reprogram thing is the hardest part to get back once you replace the battery sadly especially on XS and later.

Strange Parts did a video about batteries and apparently you can set the health % however you want. My guess is that either the % was transferred with the reprogramming process or Apple keeps track of all batteries in circulation and since the serial number was transferred it just shows the % saved in cloud for that number or something

Woah, I wouldn't be surprised if Apple did that, but then if they did, that's just crazy. Imagine the amount of orchestration and just data storage Apple needs to keep track of battery capacity of the millions of iPhone batteries out there. But the argument against that idea is that after a repair when the phone gets turned on for the first time and there is not connectivity would that mean that it temporarily shows 100% capacity until the phone reconnects to iCloud at which point it downgrades the capacity to 51%??

I’ve had the same issue - when I replaced the battery in my iPhone XS Max, as the original battery was at 49% health the new one which I reprogrammed with the same tool as you, it still showed up at 49% health. I managed to get around it by putting in another battery and it showed up with 98% health!

Around the flex cable input there are a few sensors, when I repaired a ip XS max I had the same issue but soldering the sensor and fixing them fixed the issue.

This type of happens to me alot so what I do is just use my battery fully till shutdown and then fully charge it without turning the phone on ...I think they call it recalibrating the battery I'm not sure for apple product tho Coz I'm using an Android

I'd be super curious as to what the internal diagnostics say. At least back in the iPhone 3-5 days, we could grab a (fairly basic) health report remotely, which included all the technicals of the battery. If that's different, then software might just not be pulling new info for whatever reason. Would be curious. Should probably mention, worked internal apple tech support, T1 and 2 for 4 years over the phones. Was a fun job until iOS 7 came out :D

Buy broken ones, fix them and sell them. At the beginning you could even make zero profit but you can learn on your stuff and in case you broke something you don't have any pressure. Try to learn as much as possible before taking on some customer's devices.

it happened to me with a 6s, but i make another thing with the battery, but my hypotesis is that when you trasfer the data of the battery the phone doesn´t refresh that porcent at that moment because it thinks you just disconnect and reconect the baterry so for me it refreshes a lot latter but as you said it, the preformance does not get affected

I think it makes perfect sense from the company’s standpoint. It shows the consumer “me” that som1 who is not a certified repairman “you” had Ben in the phone and to not buy it unless ure ok with this type of thing.... makes perfect sense to me and I’m actually glad it does that since I’m shure if u take ure phone in the right way they can get around this problem

You can fix it by using the pc app of the copy tool, what happend is that you copied the data from the battery but not only the serial number, in the app you can set the charge cycle to 0 and the health to 100 % (even a 150%), this worked for me, maybe it can help you as well
