However, because EVERYONE is touring, part of me worries that the many mainstream tours coming up will pull potential money from those smaller artists. @00pium_kingvampstan6 ай бұрын
@@1-1-1-1 I never said any of that, I said the person made a stupid generalization, bad albums certainly exist, but the good FAR outweighs the bad. And yes, most artists are looking for their album to be a huge hit, most of the time, it’s the label who makes them put out a whole album, or in some cases, stops them from putting out an album in fear of taking away the heat the song has at that time. And also, bc albums simply make more money, and it also helps the artist get out of their contract quicker, which they would want to, if they ever wanted to leave their label, whether it’d be bc of an exploitive contract, terrible management, you name it. Basically, album(s) = get out of contract = closer to getting away from that label if you ever wanted to leave or go independent. it also equals more money for the label, which is why we’re seeing everyone put out 1001 vinyl variants. Artist gets paid based on how well their music does, more album(s), more money. Touring also is a good source of money for the artist, as most of the money from said tour, goes to them. Unlike the streams and sales of music, which a decent amount goes to the label. Sorry for the tangent lol

@wa11ie6 ай бұрын
this makes sense with the exception that touring is historically not financially lucrative unless you‘re selling out a good amount of shows. it‘s also weird that they‘re all releasing in march and april. it always used to be august through november and maybe, circling back to touring, that is so that these artists can all tour their album over the summer and maybe that‘s the reason all these tours are being announced before the album is even out. because usually it‘s album in the fall, tour announcement within a month or two after release, ticket sales and then tour starts in the spring of the next year. and the only person on that schedule currently (that i can think of) is olivia. so i can see how this is just speedrunning money, however, tours need to be selling out to turn a profit. and in the end, the artist is the person paying, not the label. and plenty of people hate touring because it‘s very mentally and physically draining. laying it out like this has helped in some capacity but i can‘t get over the touring aspect. a lot of people releasing right now are famous enough to turn a profit on their tours tho so maybe that‘s just the answer

I LOVE your videos! You explain everything perfectly. This year has been my BEST year in terms of music discovery (the Grammys in 2025 are sure to be interesting!). However, I do think that there might be a potential "music boom" every few years, where everyone would release songs simultaneously. This would overshadow new artists, as record labels might prioritise quick releases over artist development. Festivals are the best (+budget friendly) way to support my favourite artists AND discover new music. I do believe that record labels should plan out artists touring together to enhance the experience. The current saturation of music releases might lead to future issues regarding royalty payment regulations between labels and streaming services. Overall, while I am thrilled with the abundance of music, I hope the industry finds a balance to nurture both established and emerging talents while ensuring fair compensation for their work.

I LOVE Taylor Swift, but I agree with you wholeheartedly on the making too many variants of a record thing. She did it with midnight and I was annoyed then but now after seeing how many different ones she’s done with this new album, and putting one different track on each variant. It’s pretty annoying honestly. Like, just make one Deluxe Edition of the album and put all the unreleased stuff that you didn’t wanna put on the main album there. But to make people buy four different copies if they want to have the whole body of work of an album is outrageous. And I think she’s on thin ice, as far as losing some fans because of it. I know I’m gonna buy one version of the album when it comes out this week and that will be it. If I happen to love one of the other bonus tracks that’s on one of the variants that I did not buy, I’ll move on with my life and get over it.

The only way "burn out" can be even possible with music is when influencer culture forces new content down peoples throat, instead of people organically gravitating towards music they naturally like. Sorry, but Sabrina Carpenter shouldn't be a "thing". Suddenly (out of nowhere) shes an A-list singer/songwriter SOLELY because Taylor Swift told her millions of followers that they "should" like her. Listening to albums that you don't really love just so you can be in the know and culturally aware of what everyone is hyping up is what results in burnout. Its the DEFINING factor of today's music industry.

One group I love is has preorders for multiple different styles (cd, vinyl, poccaalbum, digipak) and then multiple versions within that (colors, member versions, etc) and different store photocards (Target, Hello82, Makestar, US store, UK store). And on the flip side western artists I like are releasing 5 different vinyl covers and colors. It's honestly insane.

Everybody's pockets is hurting due to inflation, the purchasing power of our money don't go as far as it used to. Cost of living is increasing but wages are staying the same. So naturally to keep up with bills we tell ourselves need work harder and pick up a second job or 2. For artist's , celebrities and music labels its no different. They got bills and expenses to pay. So in this case, the natural thing to do is to make more music, tour more, sell more merch & Vinyls. They may make more money But just like us they are spending more then what they make because of inflation.

These big music companies think that pumping out 100 albums & tours is going to make them the return on investment they’ve been waiting for the 4 years. But that’s not gonna happen because nobody has the money to pay for everything they’re putting out. Only super rich fans, or people breaking the bank are going to attend/buy a quarter of what’s being put out right now. Let alone regular fans. The tours happening at the same time is easily explained by the end of the Covid pandemic lockdowns. Before this a lot of artists held off possibly because their label wanted them to release an album during a time when they can more reliably tour the world, as opposed to dealing with unexpected lockdowns in 2021-2023. Another reason? The US election is happening late this year. A lot of these artists would probably prefer to get their main album promo time over before that.

The ethics of these platforms and their training data are a separate conversation, but they can already put together coherent songs in their beginning stages now. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of these artists were being pushed to tour and release now before AI music takes off. I can imagine music tastes becoming more personalized, with people generating background music for themselves if they can't create it - then going to their favorite performer for a more complete show. That performer will then act as an influencer in other fields (as an actor, brand spokesperson, model, fashion designer, etc.) for supplemental income. This year is STACKED. It’s April and I’m already struggling to keep up. I still have a long list of albums to listen to. And a new crop of albums drop every Friday, and the albums are long as HELL. 😅

I think it’s really interesting to hear this topic from rumis perspective because at the end of the day he has a completely different job than most and works with brand deals as an influencer

This happens every election year: 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020 and 2024. The reason is that by the time election season hits, it's all the media is focusing on. So artists typically release so they can use the small window of time frame to promote and hype up their tour.

I relate to you about release fatigue and struggling with lyrics… then I remember that I’ve been a kpop fan for the last 10 years and it’s basically common place down in SK to release a shit ton 😂😂😂

It'll be interesting to see the year end list of the Hot 100 in a year of music with these many albums.

Not the focus of the video, but since you mentioned it: A prominent part of any midwestern accent is the distinct O sound. You hear a pretty similar O sound when pronouncing tour with the U sound too, but not at all if pronouncing it like "four." (Which I haven't ever noticed people doing before. It would've been noticeable as it's jarring for me to hear it pronounced that way, coming from someone who grew up in Michigan. :b ) That O sound is incredibly noticeable if you listen to someone from Minnesota - arguably the most adorable and endearing (and the most exaggerative) of the midwestern accents. :D It's also similar to the O sound associated with a Canadian accent, which is also the part that's often further exaggerated in media. Generally, Canadians do not have a distinct accent separating their speech from my own, esp if they're from (or lived near) Toronto, Ontario (across from Michigan and Ohio), or from Winnipeg, Manitoba (above Wisconsin). Basically, there aren't going to be short O sounds in the midwest. You wouldn't say tour like "four" without it feeling forced rather than sounding natural coming from most midwesterners. It's a completely different breath sound and/or it comes from a different part of the mouth (more front vs more back). Which of those things is influencing the sound most depends on the surrounding letters. (e.g. it can be from a little bit longer portion of the breath being spent on the O, sort of like it has two beats rather than one with a potential inflection change on the second beat.) It's a topic that has come up multiple times in my life recently, so I thought it could be interesting to share! And if not, it still helps with boosting the video in the algorithm. Lol ♡

I was just talking to a friend about this. It’s over saturation and regurgitation. We’re not…interested. They pushed and pushed the music on us so much that most of it sounds the same. I would also blame TikTok. The obsession with burst of new content and then “mmm…what’s next”. Nothing trends too long anymore. Same theme, same lyrics (virtually), same stuff. It’s like a rat race to catch our attention. They’re also drowning out the obvious drama from Diddy. Ironic how they raided his house and…BOOM! All the hip hop drama comes.

“Are we being fed “ or is the industry treating music and artist like McDonald burgers 🍔 rapid successions of album abundance of what you want digested quickly and forgotten . It’s art - artist need to take time to create . And we need to take the time to listen like you do “ listening to the album ten times knowing the lyrics etc.

I've passed up a big handful of rock/metal/alternative shows in my city this year just because its overwhelming to me! Pre-covid there were max 4 tours i wanted to see per year, and id usually need to cut it down to seeing 2 so i could still go to annual festivals. Now its been 4 tours every 2 months.
