As a somewhat older guy, I am VERY impressed with the performance of bargain basement equipment these days. 30-35 years ago, the cheap stuff was beyond worthless. I’m talking subs that were rated at 1000W, but couldn’t even handle 100W. Or 500W amps that maybe produced 40W. Even top-shelf equipment back then couldn’t match the performance of cheap stuff now (although it probably lasted longer).

The good ol days. That was when I got into car audio. 30-35 years ago. I was gifted a Pyle 15" sub. I made a box and put 50 watts to it. Then I got a pair of 10" SAS Bazooka Tubes. Then a pair of 8" Tubes. Those old units were the bomb. I loved them so much. That was back during the Audiovox times. So cheap, so cheap. You had to buy the real equipment to get real sound. I had an MTX Blue Thunder wedge box after that and made the mistake of buying a 220-Watt x 2 Boss Amp. More like 40 watts x 2 lol. Such trash. I replaced that with a 180-Watt Sherwood Amp and that actually was louder believe it or not. More like 70 x 2. I then paid to have a box built with a full stereo install but only if they let me watch so I could learn how. They said yes and let me watch all of the builds for about 2 weeks. Learned everything from window tinting and alarm installation to box building and correct wiring. Good times.

Soundstream that was actually made in Folsom, CA was the shit in the 90's!! I was all Rockford Fosgate separates for speakers, advertised it with a giant sticker on the back window of the 85 Camaro. finally quit messing around and paid $200 for Audio Express to install all the speakers in the dash, doors, rear sides. Everything was still CD's back then, it would skip the CD if I turned it up to loud. But my remedy was pull out the deck and set it on a hand towel, then it wouldn't skip. Removed the stock 6x9, had custom plates made for 6.5 and 1" silk dome tweeters, The entire system power was under 200watts RMS. A punch 45 and punch 150. The filled the spot between amp and rear seat with cut out wood so the amps set flush, with an Audio Control EQX, that i could continue to tune. sounded cleaner and louder than most cars I hear running around now. So my best friend from the 90's we started putting in systems a couple summers ago. as a joke I bought BOSS head unit with GPS, and amps, one 4 channel and one for subs. Um.........They work awesome. I was so shocked and still am that the work so good. There not even Class D. Speakers are PRV and some name brand in the back doors. It's still loud but not like that of the 90's

One thing I’ve realized getting into car audio majority of the fails or errors is because of user error. Not the manufacturer. of course every now and then someone catches a dud that sucks but most the time people improperly set resistance like a .5 ohm box running on a 1 ohm amplifier. Taramps don’t just burn up they don’t just explode it’s user error. Shit people hate on kicker at least from what I see saying they blow or can’t handle power. But it’s like I beg to differ. Amps are efficient as hell subs are so dynamic I love it. I can’t get rid of my Comps Cs tbh because they just sound so good in the custom box I built for it shit I haven’t even thrown the bass knob on them just relying on stock radio to supply bass ( I know that’s not good) can’t wait to change that though have a great day brother I’m new subscriber can’t wait to see new content u put out

Man that thing be THUMPIN! I’m still rockin’ my JBL W12GTI MK2 on a LabSlapBox enclosure custom made for that sub. It’s all in the combination. Excellent sub, excellent box that matches the sub, and of course, excellent install with the proper gear to power it. I don’t even have all the juice the sub can handle and it’s been bangin’ since 2017 and still is amazing to this day. Still makes me happy and continues to blow people away. Thing slams so hard that you can see the wiper blades vibrating from outside the car at higher volumes. I don’t blast it that loud anymore though. Best part is, it doesn’t just get loud, that thing sings BEAUTIFULLY. The sound quality is incredible and it thumps down low, yet still sings all the way up to the higher bass frequencies. I don’t think I’ll ever get rid of that system, even if I let go of the car which seems likely some years in the future. I stopped liking new cars after a certain period, and they only continued to get worse and worse but finally they’ve been making some cars that actually look great and have other appealing features, so I’ll likely get a brand spanking new car, won’t be able to hold the want much longer. Get a new Gixxer while I’m at it since they brought back the 750. What a time to be alive 😁

These are worth the value w/o breaking your budget. I bought a pair of these back in 2020 and still bassin' as I am commenting right this moment. I've added these along w/my factory speakers and head unit being powered by a Memphis 1,000 watt mono/bridged to 2ohms. Also hooked up are 1 1/2" tweeters. With the correct wires for power 0 gauge for both + & - to car battery and OEM alternator. No issues whatsoever, most importantly is breaking in the subwoofers before any long period of time with high volume with amp tuned and dialed in with the 12s. Almost 5 yrs, no distortion and spider is still tight in my '19 Rio S. Longest drive and hitting the bass for 7hrs straight in 80+ degrees down to SoCal and through the Mojave Desert. Speakers nor my amp barely got warm. I'm so happy for what I have other than what I spent because others invested a lot of $ on theirs and mine sounded much better especially for the buck. They inquire of what I have and then they're in disbelief when I say it's a WalMart speaker sound system with my stock factory sound system. They are confused but with a happy satisfactory look after a little demo. I'm not bragging and/or over exaggerating, I'm just a 62yr old trying to teach others you have the same quality sound with very minimal modifications and still have money in your pocket. My investment doing labor myself and help from my childhood friend far back to BMX racing in the 70s. I've spent less than $350 excluding breakfast, lunch, dinner & beers for the Saturday upgrade on my Kia, a former Enterprise rental car I purchased in the beginning months of Covid-19. Best purchase I've invested with WalMart to have some good tunes to the ear especially on my Sunday drives and daily drives to and from work. Just me being young at heart and refusing to grow old plus I'm preparing myself for retirement from work next year to enjoy life even more, 🔊🎚️🤓👍To stay young is to be young, unless you injure yourself, it's a different story for the body to heal timely. these subs love lots of box volume. someone at the epsilon factory told me a large slot port like this and as much air volume as possible. tune box to your desired fx and they hit. had a 15" for south american markets and it used the 5.66 cubes and 3kw i gave it effortlessly

It is all about the box, I had a 2.3 cu. It was a beast for a single sub wish I grabbed 2 to have 1 ohm load

It’s ALL about the box. My buddies and I used to build different ported and sealed boxes for our cars. It’s crazy how much a ported box (boomier) can change the whole sound of your system compared to a basic sealed (punchier and more responsive) box.

Yep! You definitely need the right box to get the most out of your sub.

I dont know if theres an $80 sub from any manufacturer that will perform like that. Im actually very impressed by this sub. I ran a mofo 15x back in the day in a custom slot port box on a jl xd1000.1 and it was pretty loud
@Patrick-xq3lnАй бұрын
Saying its all about the box is like saying its all about the sub. Its all about synergy. Start with your constant variables which is usually space then design a box to maximize the potential of that space. Then find a driver that fits that box. Or maybe the sub is part of the constants because you already have one. Say you have this particular sub... its a typical cheap sub with low motorforce which means it prefers large airspace. It also functions well in a low tuned bp6. If i were to put this in a car i would buy a second one use the entire trunk as the low tuned space and use a manifold ported section tapped into the rear deck or seat section. It would blow this setup away in every aspect. 🎉

So I have a yukon xl how do think 2 12'' subs with the scar audio box would sound? 2400 watt amp and the box is ported..... should I go with ported or sealed ? with a big air space like that
@Patrick-xq3ln16 күн бұрын
@Elevated618 I'm sure it would sound fine but idk what youre after. 2x12 is cool if you trying to save space. 18s would fit nicely back there. Stereo integrity ht18 v3 is hard to beat for $199 shipped. For music i would tune it to 30hz. Subs up port back is tried and true. If i was running 12" drivers with all that space i would strongly consider a tapped horn design. Kicker 44cvx154 is going for like $190 right now. Perfect for a big tapped horn. Lots of motorforce. One of those would sound incredible. Again, for music f3 of about 28-30hz is perfect.

I had an older one of their subs that was amazing.. it was adjustable between 2 and 8 ohms.. i traded it for a real expensive drone.. I have the amp that is suppose to power these so ill probably pick one of these up for my next system. My buddy built me a box that was identical to that box that i regret getting rid of till this day

AAYE!! back in late 2019 early 2020 I went thru 3 of these….in a 2013 Altima, I built a horn style enclosure with ALOT of area and a lot of air space…(box wasn’t all that great) BUT 18-35hz it was NASTY!! It peaked decently flat from 24-28hz…woofer was mounted in the mouth of the port, port was facing the driver rear corner of the trunk…Half the back seat down and the front windows halfway down it would straight up do a lil hair trick, I was able to float Kleenex’s !! On roughly 1200watts RMS ( couldn’t leave it full tilt very long) I have a few videos on my phone, and based off how loud other systems I’ve heard are doin, it was def doin a 140+ below @ 27-28 HZ

I think one of the major things that comes in to play is reliability. It performed well under that load, and showed it could push some dbs in the right box, but for how long will it last? I always thought the American Bass line was the best bang for buck. At least for me, when I had the itch for a lot of bass. I had 2 American Bass HDC 12s, in a custom box, on a Orion HCCA 5k, with a 320amp ces alt, and man was that thing loud. I had some America Bass XFL 12s , in a custom box before that , on a Taramps smart 3k, and that was a perfect budget combo. I kinda grew out of it, and now only have 2 Memphis Mojo 6.5s in a custom box, hooked to a Memphis 1k. Went that route for my Genesis coupe because of having no trunk space. I also have 2 JL 10s on a JL Audio 500 watt amp in my Elantra N. Good video and sorry for the long comment. Lol

@iicordii64820 күн бұрын
I bought 2 of them and one of the amps that says is supposed to go with the subs. I know it’s not enough to push them, but it’s fine. I’ve had them for a year and a half and they flex my ceiling in my truck. They hit way harder than expected, but clip a decant amount with lows. Just gotta choose the right music. I do have them wired to 1ohm. Everyone that’s heard them have asked how have them set up to bump that hard. If anyone has any issues with tuning, just ask. I also built a custom box for each sub. Massive ported boxes btw lol. Like 2.5 ft of air space in each box. They have done me justice, but I got used to the bass and upgraded to 2 EVLs on 2k amp. Still have them and am putting them in my other car next week. They’re surprisingly loud, I just like more lol. I drive a 06 Silverado crew cab. Folded the back seats down and sat the subs on top of them with amp in between them. Been like that for over a year.

3:45 Are you sure that's not a progressive roll spider? It sure looks like it to me.
@BudgetBassHeadАй бұрын
Progressives are different sizes and depths
@JasonWW2000Ай бұрын
@BudgetBassHead Yes, the rolls appear to be spaced closer and closer together as you move towards the former.
@JasonWW2000Ай бұрын
@BudgetBassHead There's many different ways to create a progressive roll and different sizes and depths are some of the ways. Another way is spacing the rolls further and further apart. The closer spaced rolls have lower tension and as the rolls get further spaced apart the tension increases.

12 awg copper wire per coil is more than enough for that sub I've used subs with smaller terminals & managed to use 12 awg per coil.
@BudgetBassHeadАй бұрын
I agree, but I was planning to apply a good amount of power. Did not want to burn up the last of my 12 gauge wires! 😁
@spuds7677Ай бұрын
If you plan to push a sub, you need to use a smaller box to maintain cone control. You wouldn't bottom it out so easy. You should use a box about 1/2 that size if you plan to double it's power rating. When I would run 3k watts RMS clamped to my SQ HDC3 15 (1500 RMS Sub) I ran a box 1.2 qubes smaller than recommended. So, I ran a 2.8 qubes net rather than a 4 cube box. I ran that for 3 or 4 years but I hurt a coil.
@faaaaq29 күн бұрын
That is a dumb strategy. Box size is going to impact how the sub performs and sounds overall, in a way more power cant erase. So it MIGHT be louder than the correct box at the correct power ratings, but at best it wouldnt be that much louds (and it would sound worse) since 2x power in NO WAY equates to a 2x in volume. in fact it would be barely noticeable.

The VC off gassing part ! That is the Penny pinchers using a lessor quality glue, likely built to spec in China. I’ve pulled some make brand pro audio gear that was made in China and likely not to spec because of this. It freaks some people out, thinking that their woofers VC is on the verge of meltdown and I just don’t like toxic off gassing. I show with a thermometer that it’s unlikely but the smell still bothers my client. Here again, you get more than your $ worth but there is a price to pay. Most people won’t trip out and run it till they wreck it.

You’re right, some people are more sensitive to off-gassing. And yes, it is very annoying.
