I think it's great. It feels immersive in the Marvel universe when everyone knows the other characters. Like I once got called Spidey in voice chat and it activated something in my from my childhood. Pretty much. I don't see anybody in the comics even refer to him as the Winter Soldier (most of the time). After he was retconned and became a reoccuring character, it was back to Bucky in-canon. Winter Soldier was js reserved as his comics' title.

The characters I exclusively refer to by name, affectionately, are Bucky, Sue, Wanda, Tony, Eddie, Bruce, T'Challa, Frank, Logan, Tyrone (just Tyrone...I forget Tandy's name half the time for some reason...). The only reason I don't call Spidey "Peter" is cuz Starlord exists. Most of the time it's really just cuz it's shorter and more gameplay friendly though, the affection is a bonus.

Well I think it's about how some character's names don't sound right unless typed fully. For example, "Spider get their healers" sounds alright. Or "Adam heal" But nobody has the time to type "winter soldier" or "scarlet witch" in the middle of a game. So i guess that's why bucky and wanda are the more used names. I also never refer to Jeff by his name. I find him annoying so I call him Shark, you know, like how Loki looks down on humans? Same thing.

I think the in-universe reason is that it saves time. “Winter Solider” is a mouthful to say, and if the gameplay is canon, then they probably wouldn’t want to waste time on the battlefield yelling that. It’s the same reason Spider-Man is “Spidey” or in Reed’s case, “Peter”, and that Wolverine is “Logan”

I think part of it is also that it's just easier to say "bucky" quickly and it also helps to not let any migrating overwatch players get confused, but that brings up the issue with black widow, being simply called "widow" and I think that's because they're both snipers, so a lot of the standard phrases apply to both, like "careful no to stay in the open, they have a widow" or "his map has a lot of sightlines, I'm picking widow" I mean everyone I've heard calls scarlet witch wanda,

I think it’s twofold, Bucky flows easier, and we’ll all the hero’s are proud of their monikers because it’s things they gained for their heroics, The Winter Soldier is a moniker that was gained from being brainwashed into a ruthless Hydra Assassin, the only character who respects the Winter Soldier moniker is Punisher and that’s because of the proficiency as a killer Bucky has when he was The Winter soldier

For me, it’s just using the fewest amount of syllables as possible. Bucky has half as many as Winter Soldier does. I guess “Steve” or “Cap” could go either way. The only exception is Star-Lord because there’s another Peter that everyone will think of first. “T’Challa” is one word, so it’s still faster.

It is in fact very wholesome! But there is also a tactical reason behind it! Winter Soldier is TOO MANY SYLLABLES for a quick callout. For example: “Bucky’s 1(hp)!!!” Or “Bucky behind!!!” Great, concise, useful and workable info by the 3rd or 4th syllable vs “WINTER SOLDIER-“ X *buzzer* What about him? Anything above 4 syllables tends to become a tongue twister when you’re trying to speak quickly. And everyone I know does the same thing for Wanda.

Most people know him bc of the MCU the mcu called him bucky and since he was only the winter soldier in captain america 2 and maybe civil war.Then in the falcon & the "winter soldier" series Im sure they call him by his name and he says he is the "White wolf" not winter soldier so its confusing as hell to know his super hero alias so bucky will do. (also is shorter and all that shiz)

i think another part about it is that "Winter Soldier" is more his villain name, and this version is clearly meant to be post- getting his brain fixed. And also it's faster and if you say "Soldier" somebody might think you're making a joke about Punisher being the Generic Soldier Gun Guy of the game like Soldier 76.

There’s also Wanda and Sue. There’s just too many long names so we go for shorter ones for some of them. Invisible Woman is already 6 syllables. Funny enough I keep calling star lord “Peter Quill” which is longer. Sometimes I forget the name starlord, specially when I’m on pressure

So in my friend group, only about half of us had ever heard of the Punisher before playing the game, so our group was pretty split on what to call him in the initial call outs. One friend called him Bastion (because of his turret form). One soldier, one Punisher. But one guy just called him Frank. Guess which one stuck... Frank. So in our group we have Bucky and Frank

I sometimes accidentally call Black widow 'scarlet' cause idk, they got scarlet witch in the game and blackwidow is okayed by scarlet Johansson in the movies so i just get my wires crossed 😭😭
