From China's perspective Georgia is located in a strategic point geographically. China's sea trading route to the EU (a massive consumer market), Africa (raw materials) and the middle east (energy) is through the South China Sea and the Indian ocean, which could be blocked by the US and India, two countries not particularly friendly to China. Hence China came up with this belt and road project where its main goal is to create a land route to Europe to ensure that its trading lifelines with the western side of EuroAsia and Africa will not be cut by the US in a hypothetical war scenario with the US (even worse if India decides to side with the US). One obvious alternative trading route is Russia's Trans-Siberian railway which connects East Asia to Europe. However, Russia has an expansionism problem, and the route can be cut due to wars between Russia and its neighbors as well as the followed sanctions at any time. Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria aren't stable countries either. The only choice left is various ex-Soviet central Asian countries -> the Caspian Sea or Iran -> Azerbaijan -> Georgia -> the Black Sea and Mediterranean Sea -> EU. Turkey also has access to the black sea but it's a NATO member and thus not as trustworthy as Georgia from China's point of view, also Iran is constantly under sanction blocking the Turkey route. A Black Sea - Caspian Sea canal would be preferred but the canal has to pass Russia, an unreliable partner due to said reasons. And Russia isn't very interested in building such a canal either because the canal will not benefit Russia itself that much.

There are breakaway regions that Georgia doesn’t recognize so they wouldn’t be able to join nato or the EU without renouncing their claims. So they would be stuck in a state of limbo like Ukraine was when Russia invaded. It is perfectly reasonable to avoid closer EU ties. It’s also important to note that something like 10-15% of the protestors aren’t even from Georgia

Poor research, I’d like to add that ever since the EU accession got suspended, and the protest beatings have begun from the police, there is ZERO doubt that Georgian Dream is supported by a minority now. Ibx you have spit a lot of Russian talking points and I am extremely dissatisfied as a pretty long time Georgian viewer at this point. The government has become authoritarian, and has begun siding with a country who occupies 30% our land and has slaughtered thousands of Georgians for centuries, there is no way NO WAY any Georgian totally agrees with the recent moves the government has been making unless its like an elderly grandparent pushing 90. He is not repeating Russian propagandist points the literal point of not joining the EU are: 1- Attempting to do so will result in war with Russia. 2- The West has been funding politics in Georgia counter to that of national interests. Simply put the point of not joining the EU is that it fucks regional politics potentially putting them in war and makes corruption more likely in government. IBX here pretty much said this stance makes sense as it happened with Ukraine in a very similar way as it is currently to Georgia. IBX’s view concludes saying both sides have good points but that the situation needs more time to see the fruits to actually say who’s right.
