That's something I love about From Software games. The dying animations takes a few seconds and while your body is falling and fading, the enemy AI still registers you as an enemy. So these motherfuckers are just relentlessly attacking your corpse even after you're dead. It's such a *fuck you* moment and it usually makes me laugh, even when I'm frustrated.

I actually found Arbiter's levels in Halo 2 alot easier with the help of the cloaking ability. It's not only used for combat purposes, but it's also for sliding right past unaware enemies and complete the missions alot quicker.

I had a friend of mine who's a fan of card games like Yugioh. I had some cards that he needed but I told that I will never give them to him. He offered money but I came up with a different offer. I challenged him to beat the first mission of Halo 2 on legendary. This is the first Halo game he played so I knew what was going to happen. I told him to that he had to make it to a rally point in order to get some of the cards. At every rally point, he can decide to stop there and keep the cards he earned but if he keeps going and gives up before making it to the next rally point, then he'll lose the cards he gained. He never made it pass the first area of Cairo Station and he never won a single card.

That's a cool challenge! I had a young family friend play Halo 2 a few years back, and as a joke, I made him do the mission Quarantine zone, solo, on legendary. He died a bunch so I went and grabbed dinner (it was a family party type thing). When I came back he was halfway through and I made sure he didn't change the difficulty. Needless to say, he beat the damn mision, and he was 8. As an adult who grew up with Halo I'll always be embarrassed I never even played Halo 2 on Legendary.

A tip for people who haven’t played H2 Legendary: Use dual needlers; especially on brutes. Also, most Arbiter levels you can run through pretty fast using invisibility.

And to add to that, get ready to die, over, and over, and _over._ It is inevitable. Also, play with a buddy in co-op if you attempt your first legendary run, it is a great way to ease yourself in, dip your toes in slowly so to speak, so you don't immediately go into shock and drown in all the frustration and anger😂. Man I miss those days, Halo CE and 2 were pure magic, beating Halo 2 solo on legendary was basically like getting the congressional medal of honor, as far as your peers were concerned😂.

I played H2 when I was a kid on legendary, never thought it was difficult. It just took a lot of patience and good peeking. The only exception is that goddamn level with the Scorpion also the Sniper Jackals but they were quick to deal with once you figured out their general spawn time. I remember using a trick where I would leapfrog over a Brute charging at me, then I would do a quick 180 and hit him in the back, killing him. That strategy actually helped a lot against the Brutes.

Anyone whose played Halo 2 on Legendary knows 5 Rules that are ingrained to their very brains. 1. Headshots, Headshots are the end all, be all. Get good with all weapons that are capable of Headshots or for the Flood can one shot critical areas. 2. Carry either a power weapon for obvious reasons or the Plasma Pistol to take care of shields, anything that can help conserve ammo for your Headshot Precision guns 3. KNOW WHERE ALL THE ENEMY SNIPERS ARE LOCATED, if you don't know where they are, believe me, they WILL remind you with a quick insta-death! 4. Stay as far away from enemies as possible, their auto-lock on and targeting decreases the farther you are away from them. Pick off enemies whenever you can before advancing or engaging. 5. When playing as the Arbiter ABUSE CAMOUFLAGE ABILITY! You can skip entire sections of levels and tough Enemies if it's used at the right times. Also use it to run away from the Flood, just in case the Flood has Shotguns or Swords. Follow these 5 steps, ALWAYS play it safe. And eventually you'll beat Halo 2 on Legendary.

futbolluva In tank, Stay decent distance away from enemy units and focus turret fire on fast moving targets/banshees. Fire tank at the front tip for close banshee/ghost, just ahead for mid, and half- 1 cm ish for long range. In hog have a marine man the gun and drive evasively. With some practices you'll find its actually quite easy. Source: halo 2 pro who ate legendary for breakfast.

Yeah that part was ridiculous. I finally managed to get on top after doing that spawn skip by hiding perfectly in the middle door. On top I think I had a plasma rifle. Not my first choice at all but I had to run. Plasma grenades and plasma rifle managed to take out all the grunts. As for the brutes, I think it was the needler. I had no time to gather anything or dual wield. I used what I had.

Ah yes the Halo game with enemies that feel like something out of a nightmare. The legion of grunts that don't care about death. The swarm of locusts that make sure no corner is safe. The Elite demigods with god like reflexes that always seem to backhand you when you try to beat down them and lord help you if they have a sword and you're stuck with an SMG. The all seeing Jackal snipers that can spot you in less than second and put a shot in your visor within the same second. Invincible hunters that eat everything you throw at them and ask for more. Finally berserker Brutes that charge after you like the last meat on a Korean BBQ grill.

The enemies at the bottom of the grav lift in Gravemind will turn and kill you if a dead body from the room where Cortana reverses the lift falls down there. Covenant exit their unaware state if they see a body. You have to avoid killing any brutes near the lift or you risk getting into the impossible situation seen in the video.

I realized that all my achievements for Halo 2 were for my old profile so I fired up Halo 2 (for Windows) in late 2016 and boy what a crap storm that was. It was just sheer stubbornness that kept me going as I ground through the game. There were checkpoints that required a dozen attempts until I got lucky and made it. Just a heads up/correction on a few things: firstly, Chief does have health in H2, but it is invisible to the player. it recharges slowly. Cryphon mentions this a few times in some of his speed runs, and he is the best OG Halo2 player in the world. Second, game glitches really do need to be utilized to make some parts of this game more fair. E-swords can be used to destroy the flood even after it has run out of ammo. Sword flying is a must if you want to survive. double shot battle rifle should always be done. pocket reloading is essentially required as well. Third, the chief's hit box, I believe, becomes larger as the difficulty increases. One of the speed running tactics is to get a marine in any vehicle that you are piloting. Marine's have rather small hit boxes and enemy fire will *frequently* miss them. if you are solo, they will melt you rather quickly. Finally, a horrifically unfair game mechanic is flood with shotguns. they can snipe with their shot gun. it is completely unfair as chief will see it spread so that it (rightly) is only useful in close range. Flood can fire it with zero spread from half way across the map, and still land a headshot

I think another factor was the dramatically reduced grenade throw range. As they say, you're supposed to feel like a super soldier , and in CE you could throw really far which made sense. But in Halo 2 you really have to elevate your aim point to even get a moderate throw by CE standards.

When I first played reach on legendary on mcc, I ran out of ammo in pillar of autumn at the shipyard, and had to kill the brutes with a plasma pistol and spiker. It was torture but the rest of the game was very doable except for long night of solace. You really have to keep the seraphs off your tail to live.

14:36 I believe the trigger for enemies to notice you is a jackal patrolling the top level. If he’s positioned too close to the grav lift when you come down, he’ll alert everyone else. If that happens, your only chance is to stick one of the brutes with a plasma grenade and run off to the side for cover; maybe even jumping down a level. That said, your point about this encounter being affected by RNG still stands

Nope, sorry. I´m not sure if you've ever played the other games, but I´ll tell you that it´s definately there. The games has *always* been designed to play on Heroic difficulty. The player shield health, Enemy shield health, weapon damage, AI accuracy and difficulty etc is "normalized" at Heroic. Easy is for those who´s console-fps noobs or are only in it for the story, all the values are halfed for the enemies and doubled for the player. Normal is inbetween that and Heroic. Legendary is 1.5 to 2 times as hard depending on the game in the series. It´s even in the actual code. That is if you actually doubt the fact that it literally says "this is the way Halo is meant to be played" in Halo:CE, Halo 2 and Halo 4 as well, which it does. I can't tell for Halo 5 because I don´t own it. But since the other 6 games are made like this, why would they suddenly deviate from it? I´m sure it´s even been covered several times on Q&A´s with bungie or 343i in the past. If it hasn´t, it makes me glad, because it´s a stupid question to ask when it´s there literally. In writing. So I don´t know where you've gotten the idea that it doesn't from ._.

Until they finally decided Heroic was a "good difficulty" in Halo 3, ODST, and Reach. So yes, Says the games themselves. In halo 2 you have to role play. Book spartans might be basically gods but there is an emphasis on how vulnerable they still are. Plasma bolts are described to be hot enough to turn dirt to glass.

El Psy cause they dont instantly. The mjonir still has the Energy shield,which dissipates the energy and heat from the plasma blast. Problem is that it overloads after a certain amount. All things considered, the armor is still a tremendous line of defense for Spartans. Without the E. Shields, the plasma would hace melted the armor down (it still has some natural resistance due to the alloy of the plating) within 2 shots

I just finished playing on legendary and then watched this video because of how difficult it was to pass on legendary. I like a challenge but literally EVERYTHING you said applied to my experience of playing on legendary. I thought I completely sucked at times, I wanted to grab my sword and go mano a mano but got killed the minute I left cover, it just was not possible to play like that. The statement you made about not feeling like a badass is an excellent description, spot on. The checkpoints felt like a trap at points. I had several occasions where a checkpoint was made a split second before I died. There is a mission where you are dropped in as master chief after you kill the prophet in a covenant ship, the mission doesn't even really start and I die, literally no time to do sh..it! Excellent video, subscribing.

To me, the real difficulty comes from the non-existence player resilience. Hard to kill enemies can taken care of with strategy, but when you’re health has been reduced to nothing, it’s more artificial difficulty than organic difficulty.

One thing I think you missed when discussing the flood was that if your shields are down, a single infection form will kill you instantly. In CE, if your shields were depleted, an infection form would take off one health bar if it jumped on you, but in 2, you die instantly. (Canonically speaking this makes more sense but gameplay wise this makes the flood even worse)

That grav lift scene is actually beatable with enough experimentation. Again though it takes out the intelligent reaction factor and replaces it with trial and error battle strategy where you flow chart your way to victory around every bend from checkpoint to checkpoint. The trick when they notice you before you hit the ground is to pre-emptively throw plasmas at the brutes while your falling and dive off the platform to the next level below you. If you manage to survive the stream of plasma fire and perfectly land the fall to the next level, you then have to fight your way through several grunts and a couple jackals with no shields and limited cover before the rest of the covenant can regroup and get you. You also don’t dare to miss an opportunity to grab a gun because you will need it to defend yourself as they slowly poor in from the above levels and you will run out of ammo quickly and you don’t dare go up the lift into instant death. It’s incredibly tedious. I suffered much in that play through

TechNick You could always skip it by jumping on the rooftops with grenade jumps. I believe the hardest are was actually in the first level when you have to kill all the enemy waves so the door for the next area opened. The thing is that you always ran out of nades and ammo before killing half of the enemies, so you needed a lot of skill.....

@@TheArbiter1225 I never understood this take, I've played Halo 1 on Heroic and most of the stuff mentioned in this video occurs in that as well, the only differences I've noticed is that the enemies fire slower and do slightly less damage. No matter how much I move around enemies rarely ever miss and even though you CAN survive SOME encounters by just running in it's practically impossible to do it without taking major health damage, meaning you are almost certainly dead in your nect encounter unless you hug some cover and snipe. I don't know how different someone else's game could possibly be that they wouldn't experience this. I have always known Legendary to be the "fuck you" difficulty (not that it's justified). With the amount of flood forms with guns on the Library killing them in one shot with the shotgun is the only feasible way to get through it from what I've experienced

Hey Act Man I hope you see this, and well anybody else that loves Halo 2. Do you want an enjoyable Halo 2 experience? Something that isn't unforgiving like legendary but slightly harder that heroic? Well try this out, it's what I've done for years now on the MCC and to me it feels good. Not brutally unforgiving kill you in less than a second of legendary but not too easy like default heroic. Put the game on heroic and turn on the Anger skull. Just that one skull alone seems to give an enjoyable experience. Not too difficult but still hard enough you need to use cover when fighting. Try it out, run a few levels like that and see how you feel about it. Also like you said in the video, this would now allow you to experiment with different combos and play styles and not always needing just one

In combat evolved, on the 2004 pc version, without skulls, achievements, laso, I challenged myself to keep all the marines alive on legendary, since they died in 3 hits and actually succeeded a few times. In halo 2, their presence is almost mandatory in some sections, take the waterfall on delta halo for example. It's brutal and ridiculously unforgiving.

Yeah, no. Heroic was the true difficulty of the games according to the developers. Legendary was something they made to challenge themselves.

I did notice this game being harder than Combat Evolved and other Halo games. No worries. Hokiebird gave me my first intro to Combat Evolved. I got to the Halo party very late. I didn't play Halo until late 2019. Now I'm a big fan of the series. I'm not as cynical about Bungie vs 343 and I do prefer the anniversary graphics. I played Combat Evolved and then jumped up to Halo 5, then I played Reach. Halo Infinite came next. I'm going back to play the older games so I can experience them all. I'm just doing them all out of order.

It's beatable, I've done it. Basically same strats as Legendary, but it takes longer. Mythic doesn't increase the amount of enemies nor the damage they do. The only variable that it changes is the amount of health/shields they have. SLASO on the other hand, I have no intention of ever trying. I don't know why anyone would torture themselves with that.

Mythic is just one skull (the Mythic skull) on Legendary difficulty. SLASO is Solo Legendary All Skulls On so you have Mythic plus all the other skulls.
