Thank you so much for addressing what is happening to the fourth and fifth fingers! I haven't seen anyone else really describe what they are doing, and "that sketch" that one's seen everywhere (in Spencerian books, for example) just never explained how those two finger should be positioned and what is their function. Speaking of the latter, I'm glad to hear that the fingernail should be sliding along, but how much weight should be on them? Are they merely there to help keep the hand steady (an extremely light touch so that it can glide)? Or can it be weight-bearing at all? I find that because no other part of the hand is resting on the table, that my shoulder wants to rise up to help lift / support the hand and wrist. I find I want to put some weight on those fingers but I don't know if that's the wrong thing to do.

You need to be resting your forearm on the edge of the table, that will give you plenty of stability and support for the hand. The fingernails only glide on the table.

My problem is always the pencil grip, I touch the paper with not only the two last fingers but also the middle finger sometimes, is this normal?
