Why is Protect SO GOOD In Little Cup?

Protect is the best move in VGC, but what about singles? In Little cup, it's certainly good too not gonna lie.

I think my favorite thing about protect is that it single handedly ensures that slaking will never become meta defining in any tier

Poor Slacking. He's so silly I love him. Garbage competitively and probably always will be unless he gets a hidden ability (which I would love, imagine Huge Power as the hidden ability lol)

Protect used to be good in gens 3-5 when OU had sand and hail setters to abuse, since a mon immune to that damage could hold Leftovers and use Protect to gain some chip health while many other mons would take chip damage. Protect made ADV Skarmory and Swampert insanely tough to take down, and Skarm especially would often heal over 50% of its health in a game despite not having moves like Recover or Roost. Since weather became temporary Protect's been a lot less useful, but as you've shown it can rear its head in some metagames

Good video, and in general protect should be more widespread. One thing I love doing in LC: Running protect on mons smogon sets don't give it as a standard move. For example, I was using Calm Mind Magician Fennekin pre-DLC2 (Grass spam was everywhere bc of mons like Voltorb, got to high ladder with that team) and ran Flamethrower/Wish/Protect. Most Fennekin sets would have you run something like scarf or power herb, but Eviolite plus Fairy tera ensured this was my sleeper check to Mienfoo while still dealing with Voltorb and other annoying grass types. Knock Off bait worked with the set, bc you could tera and resist it, then grab your opponent's Eviolite with Magician. But what made it an impromptu counter to Mienfoo was really protect. I'd protect on a predicted HJK or Fake out, then I could tera fairy calm mind/wish up pretty safely either way it went. If I get knocked off, something on the other side is going to lose its item. Ghost tera is also another fav of mine for lead mons, because it helps beat so many common options. Mienfoo, Fake Out, and Rapid Spin are all super common and hard to deal with in lead matchups. It can give you a pretty major leg up when you're at a disadvantage lead-wise. Also nice to see a fellow Sandile user, loved that lil croc when Glimmet was at its peak usage. Hazard prevention (taunt) and setting (rocks) is something I like having on one mon, but it was before Drilbur. Now I just would use sashbur but it was still cool to use something new for once

I mean I guess it would be necessary to have protect In the game gives a good back and forth like playing fgc Like it’s a good feeling to have a good parry to a cloud up smash or punish
