For the tanks to be 100% safe they would have to be in a deeply buried concrete bunker several miles away.

By the time Starship has launched and come down to crash, these tanks are mostly air by volume and provide cushioning to the Starship, a feature that has won them an 5-star safety rating from the NHTSA.

And the engineers have multiple times changed the design even if Elon Musk didn't want it that way. They do so because they have a good reason and HE actually does listen to them.

@@UshankadMenace-ti9xi lol yeah not only is there so much proof of this you'd have to be a sycophant to deny it. But elon keeps bragging about how his engineers keep telling him it won't work. I especially like the interview where he said this exact thing about the steel construction. Lol. Selling non space age materials as new ideas. Not the discarded ideas because they are ignorant ones.

The first time I saw the layout of SpaceX's Launchpad I knew those tanks were too close. I still think they need to build a separate isolated landing tower versus having the OLM in danger of major damage if Starship were to crash. A crash at the OLM stops all launches irregardless of whether they planned on landing the booster, a crash at a landing tower would still give them the option of launches.
@jarjarbunks2844
@jarjarbunks2844 17 күн бұрын
Since they plan to make them rapidly reusable in the future they would have to revert back to this system anyway as moving the boosters and ships after every landing would take hours in between flights. A crash would definitely hinder progress in the short term more than having to move boosters around, but they are in the process of building a second OLM anyway. Hopefully there isn't a crash at the launch mount during testing, but we all know SpaceX's philosophy is crash now, ask questions later so I guess we'll see 😅

@@anthonypelchat That makes sense if that was the case as to why them used them in the first place. I just wonder if there's a lack of oversight/decision making somewhere in their chain as they develop this beast of a machine. NASA takes so long, the second and third coming will have come and gone if left to them. However, when they do do something, it tends to work when they finally go live with it.

Why do you care? Let them learn. People have to learn somehow. All you want to do is make them look bad for wanting trial and error objects we don’t know much or anything about. So while you sit behind your safe computer and complain, they’re actually making discoveries. Who should I watch more? A pension that complains and whines over everything or actual significant scientific breakthrough.
