The painting in the training room wasn't to upset Katniss, Peeta did it to pay tribute to Rue, and purposely in front of the jury to show them how cruel the games are.

Yes, also, in the books Katniss talks how her time was delayed, it took more time for her to make her audition because there couldn't be any evidence of previous tribute's actions there, but they just couldn't get rid of the painting of Peeta. In the end, they just placed something above, but Katniss saw.

Peeta tells her when they are on the Roof top, telling her what it looked like and why he did it. She then tells him what she did.

In the books, Katniss is sure Snow wants her dead, so as she knows she will die one way or another she makes up her mind to keep Peeta alive, because she thinks he’s good and pure and could also be great for the revolution cuz of his speaking and convincing power. So basically, Peeta tries to die and keep Katniss alive while she does the same

Peeta drops the baby bomb in hopes of them cancelling the games, making the people of the Capitol upset because they would be sending a pregnant woman to the games. In the books even more it shows how Peeta has a way with words and did a lot of stuff behind the scenes to tip things in his and Katniss' favor.

Effie doesn’t get attached to the tributes because district 12 sucks and they almost never win. So she doesn’t want to get attached to the children and mourn them every year. Keeping her distance from them is probably a defense mechanism. At least that’s how I saw it.

But Effie (at least movie Effie) did get attach to Katniss and Peeta. She even calls them her Victors. She almost cried picking Katniss' name from the bowl, she had a quick breath of relief thinking that Haymitch would be going in and then her face dropped when she heard Peeta say. "I volunteer as tribute" and then she started to cry as she said goodbye to them. Along calling herself, Haymitch, Katniss and Peeta a team.

I hate the movies for not making this clear to non-book readers: the person who did the Rue painting was Peeta (remember in the first movie, he was good with painting and disguised?). He did it to shove the evil of the games back in the game makers faces. And then Katniss followed it up with making a noose and painting Seneca Crane on it.

With the thing that the capital people offer to katniss and peeta, and they say that it makes you sick so that you can keep on eating, the Romans used to do that in history, they’d stick a feather down their throats to trigger their gag reflexes, then they’d throw up and keep eating. In almost every reaction I've seen to this movie, no one remembers that Peeta is an artist and they don't figure out that since he goes in before Katniss, he drew Rue to honor her. Almost everyone speculates it's some f-ed up mind trick done by the Capitol to throw Katniss off before presenting, like did you not just see Peeta walk out the room? lol

In the books we learn that Snow killed all his political opponents with poison. And sense he drank it himself at the same time as his victims before taking an antidote his mouth is destroyed and has permanent open wounds. That is the reason for the blood in the drink. And we also learn the reason for Haymitch's alcoholism. He was the victor from the 50th hunger games where 4 tributes where sent from each district and as the brilliant tactician he is he got the last tribute to kill himself be tricking him into a forcefield. So Snow saw him like Katniss as a potential rebel leader and hope for the districts. So he worked hard to destroy him and the threat he posed.

Most people from District 12 don't know how to swim, including Peeta. Also, Peeta is the main person, besides maybe her sister Prim, that literally keeps Katniss "sane". Peeta is the strategic, intelligent, well spoken, charming, master manipulator and observer (with good intentions/ or to protect). They new that Katniss wouldn't have been very able to "sell" herself/image to the Capitol or get her to work with them, without Peeta's calming influence on her and his ability to make her look good and appealing infront of an audience.

Haymitch is best character for me. Sadly movie didn't do him justice.His story is more interesting than main story for me and it is not even mentioned in movies. When he was in the arena in age 16 there was double number of tributes (48). He worked with girl from District 12 and they became kind of friends. She was later killed and Haymitch could not save her. He found end of the arena a used force field to kill his last oponent (girl from District1) . He almost died from serious injuries. Snow was not happy about him winning, because Haymitch found out about force field, so he got his family and girlfriend killed. That's why he drinks so much, he was hallucinating and was going mad. Snow gave Haymitch as example when he was blackmailing Feenick. That's why Feenick did everything Capitol said to him, because he did't want to loose his loved ones like Haymitch did.

The look on Effie's face when picking the 74th tributes vs the 75th tributes is the definition of character development. In the first, she's so bubbly, superficial, and fake looking, but in the second she has much more color to her complexion and seems more real, but looks absolutely devastated and hollow at what she has to do.

Conveying the level of trauma Katniss is dealing with is the main thing the book did better in my opinion. Having her thoughts adds a layer that makes everything deeper. In the movies, she appears as strong as that's how she acts. But internally, she is broken, suffering from heavy PTSD, just trying to get through the day. It's fantastic writing

In case no one said, Haymitch’s game was a quarter-quell where double the amount of tributes were reaped. He was rather impressive and suffered a loss of someone he got close to. He discovered the forcefield of the games like in this one and used it to win his games against his final opponent. As a result, his family was killed. The drinking was the result, but he was always snarky.

The Tribute Training Center in this movie and the next ones was filmed at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis, which is one of the host hotels for DragonCon. Johanna Mason stripping down probably doesn't even crack the top ten list of weirdest things to happen in that elevator. That same hotel is also going to show up in the Loki series, was in one of the trailers for Spiderman: Homecoming, and was also in the first Hannibal Lector movie, Manhunter.

I’m on team Peeta! Yes Gale was gorgeous but Peeta was just ADORABLE and doing all he can to keep Katniss alive. Which is why he dropped that bomb of her being pregnant. To make the capital not want her in the games. It was one final attempt to get her out before they have to fight. His ability to think on his feet is absolutely amazing and should be applauded.
