About a year ago I found Mr Heiser and I’m glad I did. What he says towards the end about mandatory religion classes that make the student expect the bible to have contradictions is something I can relate to. My current religion prof seems to talk a lot about questionable things in the bible that make it seem illegitimate but a few helpful videos online helped me stay on track. The education system is wicked and Religion professors really need to study the facts and not base claims on a hunch.
@savedbygrace68532 ай бұрын
Right! There are no contradictions in the Bible, only a lack of knowledge. But that's not how these self described 'professors' , most of whom could not obtain a regular job and pray for tenure, operate. Students are indentured into their class because no one would sign up to enroll in them otherwise. This was the premise of the movie "God's not Dead."
@hannetjiedebeer94802 ай бұрын
@savedbygrace6853 I agree. There are people who are hellbent to find contradictions in the Bible. It is easy if one reads out of context. The Bible is far beyond and above human interpretation. Even if text are removed, added, or twisted, there are other numerous texts in the Bible that will lead us back to the truth. The more I read the Bible, the more I understand that I know a fraction of the depth of the total context. Many texts in the New Testament have already been mentioned in the Old Testament. To quote Dr. Michael Heiser: "Let the Bible be what it is." Believe and trust like a child.There are so many mistaries that are now unfolding in front of our eyes, and there are many more to come.

The problem with Dr. Heiser's take on the definite article in front of Satan is that in the Septuagint it also includes the definite article in front of 'diabolos' and in Koine Greek (and modern Greek), they do put the definite article in front of people's names to be specific that a certain 'Mike' is being discussed. The oldest OT we have is the LXX and we should be using it because it was what Jesus and the Apostles used.

Thanks for making sense of it all and explaining it clearly. The difference in names does tell us about Satans characteristics. Correct me if I am wrong but this is important because the Bible isn’t completely clear on his power on Earth. In Job we can see he needs Gods permission so that shows Gods ultimate authority. I then wonder how much does God let Satan punish or test us. Since God knows the outcome even though it’s dynamic because we have free will. I think if he can use bad for good because that shows his love for us and brings us back to him would that be seen as manipulative and not letting us have complete free will since he knows if what he does will push us closer to him as in Job or possibly break us in the case of Judas. I hope you can share your insights about this as I have been trying to make sense of free will for some time now. The other thing is that if we have free will in heaven couldn’t we fall into the same trap again by choice? If he removes evil wouldn’t that be taking away free will which is something the Bible said was important to God. But then did he give us free will? We didn’t know about good and evil right so we had free will based on our knowledge at the time. I think my question got answered by myself 😂 I’d would definitely like your insight on this please 🙏 I have asked many Christians I know and they don’t seem to want to delve deeper into thinking about this stuff

It's perfectly reasonable to have different names/words referring to the same thing in this case. And that is because there is a lot of time for terms to develop. Well the Celestial Rulers/lights created in Day for when we explore the cultural context can very well be understood as having real heavenly entities that they symbolized, and at the end of the Creation cycle it says in a nutshell and thus was completed the Heaven and the Earth and all their Heavenly hosts, the word host there is later used to talk about the assembly of Hosts which is made of those Angels. And you can't take Genesis in isolation of how the story developed Genesis is only the beginning of the story, it is normal that it is not packed with all the things that will be developed later in the Story, Genesis do not talk about the creation of earthly Kingdoms at least not by God too yet it doesn't mean God will not aim at creating a earthly Kingdom that precludes the merging of his Heavenly Kingdom and the Kingdom of men, finally the three-tier Cosmos basis already has its basis laid in Genesis, God's realm, human's realm and the realm of Chaos the waters even if at that moment the Chaos they represent is restrained and reshaped by God, later that Realm of Chaos develops to be symbolized by hell or sheol. You don't believe me? Simple go in the biblehub plateform and see for yourself, the host of heaven use the same word as human armies, and human congregation, of course if you want to interprete it as a personification suit you, but angels are also present in the OT, namely those with came with The Lord to Abraham and later went to Sodom and i don't even mention the Sheol which is very present in Hebrew cosmology, where do you think Samuel where before being summoned by spirit ? Sheol the realm of the dead is clearly spoken about in the OT, and strongly linked to the Chaos realm and Hell. Don't just spit out like a fake prophet, reason and give argument, it is useless to make accusations that you can't support, cite people, show the word study methodology you used, what aspect of ancient Hebrew culture are you referencing to. I also can say you just have been confused and misled by the Satan twisting the words to use you as a brainless pupet to cause others to stumble, everyone can do that, the difference is what is the reasoning behind your claim and does that hold to scrutiny, Now would you please not be disrecpectful towards people that have been martyred for the faith and just focus on the argument. Also, speech and vocabulary change 😂with generations and culture. The Bible was written over hundreds of years by individuals from various ethnicities and languages. So yes the names/titles can change depending on the region or time but it does not change the truth.

The being in the garden was the first angel created, and the left hand of God, samael. And that is who most are referring to when they say "Satan". And the being which tempted jesus was one of the watchers, Azazel. Who is known as "the accuser of the brethren" aka "the devil". And the antichrist is of course the 3rd beast which has yet to be. And unless the antichrist is named Lucifer, then that is just a made up being and combination of the other two satans stories. I suppose we will find out soon enough tho.

Why didn’t/doesn’t/wouldn’t Satan read scripture the way the world does and NOT do what is prophesied of him and make God and his word unreliable? It is impossible to believe that an angel of high order and his untold number of followers (“1/3rd of the heavenly angels” as taught) are too stupid to realize the simplicity of this ploy that would make God and his word unreliable. It is also impossible to believe that God would risk his sovereignty on the whiles of an emotionally and/or mentally unstable being. It is impossible for Satan to be a fallen heavenly angel, because if he is all this angel must do is absolutely nothing to cause even just one of God’s prophesies to come about, and then the bible (KJV) becomes unreliable and false, do this and many more people would turn their backs on God than ever would because of any evil that satan could do. Also, what prevents another angel from rebelling in the eternal future, and another, and another, etc.? Satan is not a fallen angel; he is not a self-aware being. The bible (KJV) tells us he is a power and a principality. This fact proves that the world is not “rightly dividing the word of truth”. This fabled Satan that has considerable intelligence should know that all he must do is sit back and do nothing to bring about even just one of God’s prophecies, then at best God and his word become unreliable and then God is as fallible as man and no God. Or at worst God becomes the same as your fabled Satan “a liar” and is just a power hungry being. And this would leave 2 billion+ professing Christians without a leg to stand on, not mention those that are asleep in the lord. To “rightly divide (separate) the word of truth” you must separate fact from fable, truth from tale, and principle from parable. When you sincerely study the bible (KJV) the Holy Spirit will show you that Satan is a power and a principality in high places. In more than one instance in the bible (KJV) high places is referred to as governing seats and rulers, it is not some other dimension with literal ghouls and spirits floating around waiting for a vulnerable human to consume. Satan is not the only inanimate personified by the bible(KJV), Solomon personified wisdom and speaks for her, Prov 1:22-33 (KJV), Jesus personified the Word and speaks for it, John 17:1-5 (KJV) As for “prince of the power of the air”, when you enter a house with undisciplined and disobedient children you can feel the contention and strife in the air, when you go to a neighborhood ran by gangs you can feel the tension and fear in the air, and every day more and more you can feel the division and hate in this nation (U.S.A.) the great “liar”, “in God we trust” and “one nation under God”. When someone is tempted to do something that they know is wrong they have a little debate in their head and lie to themselves and make excuses to justify the action they want to take. Just like the story of Eve and the talking serpent. A talking serpent is a parable; 2 Tim 4:4 (KJV). A talking serpent symbolic of the lust of the flesh; is truth. The power of those that give into this serpent is what God calls Satan, or to be more specific, the power of those that use and abuse the laws of God “to steal, and to kill, and to destroy” the poor, fatherless, and widows, is what God calls Satan. A principality (a government). And any who support him, through lies or evil plans (mind), or with works (hands) are his angels. Hence the mark of the beast. All glory to God. Amen

Was not Satan created an angel? Do angels have free will? No there isn't. They are servant souls. Do animals have free will? No, there isn't, just like nature has no free will. So how can the devil, who has no free will right to choose to "rebel"? Of course he can't choose. Free will is only a gift given to mankind. So if God had told Adam and Eve to "choose" without offering any choice in Aden and without a "seductive", how could they be "rebels"? Satan is a spirit commissioned by God to test the free will of people. If there is no test, free will does not work, it will be meaningless. People today claim or say that Satan is at war with God and is even - may God forbid - superior to Him. It is written indisputably that God's glory and oneness is written everywhere in the Bible. You say that when Greek was first spoken in the world, an elasticity developed, but since they could not pronounce the name Joshua, they made up the name Jesus.

I think, when Peter cut the ear off the arresting officer, Jesus said to Peter, get behind me Satan. Maybe Satan is an action. A verb, and action against God. The spirit entity speaking from the tree acted against God and even called God a liar. Peter was taught, like the others, what was to happen to Jesus. He momentarily acted against that plan.
@shockthetoast2 ай бұрын
That's not when Jesus said that to Peter. When Jesus said that he was going to have to suffer and die and then rise again, Peter rebuked him and said that would never happen. That's when Jesus said "Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men."
@frederickkneuss33672 ай бұрын
@@shockthetoast Thank you for the correction. So greatly appreciated. Is it not festinating that even if the facts are a little skewed, the idea often remains. This might be wisdom. It is unlikely Peter is a creature called Satan at the story you mention. The stumbling block, beginning in the garden, which sought to interfere with the plan of heaven and human relationship. Humans that walk with God. Thank you again for your assistance.

Their is no relation yaweh is not the farther of christ the old Testament comes from the Torah which even several Jewish groups fight each other over it and much of it came from mesopotamia and that region of the world. Focus on Jesus's teachings not on the old Testament.

I find this very weak. He uses the Bible (New Testament) to explain the Bible (Old Testment, or more appropriately, the TANAKH). He gets it right that Satan is not a name but a title, but that title is applied to many people in the TANAKH at various times, even God. But the character - the person - of Satan is only referenced twice in the OT. He's not the Lord of this world or the underworld. He's an agent of God. Sure, you can interpret prophecies and stories however you want to build your doctrine, but it's subjective at best: what does the text actually say is what's important. His point that the writers weren't bound by language is what I find most agregious: if they COULD mean it,then they could also NOT mean it. Again, weak. 'Not trying to be the turd in the punch bowl - I'm genuinely seeking answers on this topic. I don't think you can overlook the syncretic probability of this character in the scripture. It's the best explanation. I recommend KZbin channel ReligionForBreakfast's "Origins of Satan" for a better discussion on this topic
