I mean education system in western countries are far more relaxed than india. Dont be judgemental. Rise and fall of nations are not new to the history. If india is not strong enough it will fall but that is not gonna happen. Do you know why indians are mostly careless and less mindful of others in general and they focus only on them and their families, relatives and close circle. But if they feel threatened you will see an all new face of those guys. One such example is "Jallikattu protest" which happened in my state. Many students from grade schoolers to the young adults of age 30 or less participated in this protest in a highly peaceful manner with no violence at all, because that problem is just an internal conflict within the country. Its not that we are not alert or aggressice enough but it shows we are calm and composed while we face problems. Yeah, our countries growth rate is slow but its progressing steadily at our own pace. If we feel the need we will adapt so dont push your ideologies to us. And indians are far more hardworking than you think. When he referred to Rio Earth summit 1992 common and differentiated responsibility, what he meant was that since the developed west was the prime contributor to climate crisis as compared to the developing third world country. They have higher moral and practical responsibility. If India china pledge to cut their emissions by 5% west should do it by 20 because they have already achieved a certain life standard by their past depreciation of nature. They also have a differentiated responsibility of providing 100 billion through GCF to 3rd world countries like india china and also transfer of clean energy tech. But the west forgets this differentiated part and only focuses on common part that we all are in it together. A kid in LA giving up diesel powered car to shift to electric car can not be equated to a child in india or africa giving up using coal fuel electricity altogether. For the LA kid it's a luxury. For people in 3rd world it's their only way to elevate their social conditions.

When my uncle visited from the US, he was so impressed with the way we are limiting our plastic use whenever we can and opting for recyclable products. it's the little things, carrying bags from home when buying vegetables, supermarkets charging you for bags (which again aren't plastic) and how we get things repaired instead of throwing it off, use our old clothes for cleaning, etc. He was impressed at how the citizens themselves were this responsible (Tbh, i also think we do this to save money and reduce unnecessary spending). And i realised that while we might have issues of carbon emissions and all that, we naturally have a tendency to reuse and be economical in our purchases and living. I think this is vastly missing in the west, as my uncle pointed out. There's not even a concept of second hand in the usa. Everything has to be new and everything has to be disposed. After all this, when they say we need to reduce carbon emissions, it doesn't make that much sense coz they need to work way more on going green than we do.

The crux of his speech wasn't about denying climate change but mostly about the condescending nature of West's political and intellectual class. For reference a recent article in The Guardian (i think) carried a headline "How India's demand for AC will push carbon emissions". Now India a tropical country with hardly 10 percent AC penetration can't even dream for having a moderate necessity for it's people.? Then the thing he said about "present" is a dig at the climate Justice movement led by people and youngsters in Rich countries who have all the basic amenities, good life which is a dream for millions. India is not a climate change deniar most Indians aren't. We have more and more renewable projects and ambitious aims too, even in Glasgow we pledged a lot including on cars (incidentally top car producing nations,US, Japan didn't). But the reality is we have limited resources. He was talking about the need for resource pooling to help us adapt. We want to adapt but we can't leave the process of Economic development for that. Reliance Industries Mukesh Ambani recently announced 70B$ plan for green hydrogen all in hopes of scaling it. So such things need a lot of resources, resources which global North has mostly through colonialism and an advantage of industrial revolution, which brought prosperity to the West and a lot of carbon to our atmosphere. We were busy being subjugated while the West was prospering now how can they talk about equal responsibility when we weren't equal in getting development? We can't sentence millions a life of misery because some activist with a carbon footprint higher than 20 families of India wants to. We want sustainable development, we are doing our best and will continue to do so. However condescending nature of all including newspapers like NYT , WaPo is all very real and blatant. No wonder nobody likes them even when they might be reporting some truth.

In India, we have been witnessing frequent natural disasters over the years. People don't really dispute over whether or not climate change is true when we are living through its consequences. The discussions are centred around 'how' to deal with climate change rather than denying the obvious. The speech is not denying climate change, rather point out practical difficulties faced by developing and underdeveloped countries in curbing usage of coal at same pace with developed countries. Countries like US and UK has already gone through and benefitted from industrial revolution. They are at a stage where the citizens has the privilege of choosing between diesel car or electric car, veganism or meat. In third world countries people do not have that luxury. The choice is between starvation or food. Things like using solar panels, natural gas are not a matter of choice but truly out of reach. Simply put, you don't think of fixing a solar panel on roof when you are homeless. Starving for losing weight and starving out of poverty are two things worlds away. The latter don't have the luxury of thinking whether to go vegan or choose meat when there is literally no food available to them.
@sagarikasuresh2 жыл бұрын
This needs more context of the 1992 Rio Summit and COP26 Glasgow summit. Basically, the West have signed a treaty for "Common but differential responsibilities" according to which, we have a common goal towards climate change but since the West has industrialised and polluted for centuries in comparison to developing nations, we get some leverage which is barely anything. While developed countries are to become carbon neutral by 2050, China by 2060 and India by 2070. This is completely unfair because the West developed themselves through colonialism for 300 years and when we started developing a few decades ago, they decide to hold us accountable for carbon emissions even though our carbon footprint is wayyyy lesser than the West till date! (USA's carbon footprint is 15x more than India's as per UN) They're specifically targeting coal because developing countries (especially India and China) are coal dependent. This again puts the onus on us to reduce emissions while the West have already polluted for centuries, still have a higher carbon footprint and continue to pollute.
@gagankukreja22172 жыл бұрын
Understand the point, west saying to India, China etc to lower carbon emissions. Now 2 main points. 1. They take total carbon emissions not per capita 2. They want country like India to reduce oil and coal use and shift to clean energy. Now for clean energy lot of money required also new technology is needed. Country like India where 25% population is still below poverty line, health care and education need a lot of funds so this is practically impossible to shut coal and oil use. And west is not ready to fund also they want India to buy tech from them as they are not willing to share that with countries like India. US wanted India to give contracts to White westing house like companies for clean nuclear energy. This is how the west works. Above is one example. West polluted the world and now want others not to use the same energy they used in past.

It clearly says COP26 coalition in the video guys which was at Glasgow Climate Change Conference last year. Also, context matters, what he was talking about was the West's hypocrisy towards east and Africa as the prime carbon polluters when in fact, it was the west's industrialisation in the 1800s and 1900s that were main contributors to rising carbon emissions and now when the developing counties like us do the same, they blame us for rising carbon emissions like we are ones who started it. Also, this is similar to the Non-Proliferation Treaty where the bunch of western developed countries who already possessed nuclear weapons but didn't want the others to have or test nukes and hence the NPT was born which everyone signed apart from India and a couple of other countries.

What I got from this is that we should worry about the people int he world now, uplift them now, then we can start recruiting them to work on the future. Those few people who have sufficient resources with them cannot bring about a large scale change globally. For that to happen, people from the third world countries need to care about the future too, but they won't, they can't, as long as their present immediate needs remain unfulfilled, basic needs like food and clean water. The world's resources are distributed unevenly its a known fact, we need to work on distributing these resources equally, so no one is left out and automatically the future will be taken care of because people won't have to worry about their present anymore.

It's about the policies they make for climate change only takes the developed nations present state into account and not the developing and underdeveloped nations. Thank you OSR for reacting to such videos. One thing I would like the people of my country is to learn to take criticism head on like a lot (not everyone by any means) of Americans. These are facts for anyone to go and check. When I moved to the US 13 years ago, I used to get offended when I was asked about how I can speak English so well. As time passed, I realized that it is a result of how the media and the education system here has morphed or rather has provided the people with very limited and diluted knowledge of the east. I remember a few years ago when I showed the difference of how Mumbai was represented in pictures by National Geographic as opposed to the real pictures. Most of the national geographics pictures depicted the old Indian stereotype which is the snake charmers and cows on the street. So after I learnt that I started taking every question and every comment as an opportunity to not get offended but to educate the individual about the facts and the reality. Every country has its own challenges and India does too. But it is good to see that the Indians are now standing up for themselves with the allies such as you guys who are graciously open To learning more and also accepting biases that the west has. Once again well done because you just don’t restrict your reactions to only the art but also what is happening in the world otherwise. This is why it makes this channel cohesive and composed rather than just another way of entertainment. Keep up the great work!

Indians for most part take well intended criticism fairly well but same can't be said about west. It's time these people see thier hypocrisy & learn about thier crimes. It's the age if Information & if US citizens still carry the image of India equals to snake charmer etc.. it's thier mistake & just proves they are no better than rest of the world. Also thier media has been selling lies for decades, the responsibility is with them to expand thier horizon. PS. You can also see thier absolute denial about the facts; so stop sugarcoating things about them.

You Americans live most disposable life they is no concept of reusability in your genetics. You consume more beef anywhere in the world, fun fact that is the single most contributer to climate change. Kindly do some research. You only talk about coal burning a major issue but have you ever had a single thought on what's happening to the nuclear waste that is produced in your nuclear reactors used to generate power?? Western world has no morality to dictate us on climate change because the current green house gases in the atmosphere is traced to the coal that you burnt during industrial revolution period

I appreciate this man for laying out the truth, driving the point home of what the West did. I admittedly don’t know much about the history of India as an American citizen, but what I did know and when I heard this man speak of the historical and modern hypocrisy of the West I acknowledged the fact that India has been screwed over and over time and time again. It’s time for us as citizens of the west to get our heads out of our collective self righteous asses and Have at least the common decency to acknowledge and take accountability of our own mistakes. As an American citizen to India 🇮🇳 It may not be worth much coming from one citizen who no one knows of or even cares for but I would like to apologize for my actions that have contributed to the suffering of your country and people. And thank you for educating me! “Jai Hind”

The problem with informational videos is that there is a lot of fake news and political propoganda floating around. Continue to critically evaluate everything you watch and take everything with a big pinch of salt. An outsider's perspective is something that might help an indoctrinated person consider a perspective that had not occurred to them. Indoctrination works both ways, you see.

Dr.Prashad later clarified that his "outburst" was provoked by an interaction he had just had with an oil executive who had stated that no one including himself really gave a shit about all those Africans who remained poor while the oil wealth was being pumped out of their land by wealthy multinationals. On another point, I wonder what many of the nationalistic Indians expressing indignation and also pride at this particular reaction video would say if they only knew that Dr.Prashad is a left wing Marxist intellectual who frequently supports China, and can often be seen on the Chinese mouthpiece Global Times. He has also often criticized what he calls "The Indian occupation of Kashmir"....now what do you guys say??

what he's saying is: if you say reduce your carbon consumption(not per capita but total carbon emmisions) to India, that essentially means, you're asking people not to develop because development makes people consume more and that inevitably raises a person's carbon footprint and the country's total. So, it is kind of offensive to ask India to reduce it's carbon footprint when it has just begun it's development journey
@steamerSama2 жыл бұрын
not to say that India shouldn't do anything about reducing its carbon footprint from non renewables, it should
