Why is there so much negativity about tinnitus? On-line you only see the people who have not yet let go of tinnitus and who are still stuck. Some forums allow negative mindsets to take root. The medical model cannot prove clearly that one medicine or therapy helps tinnitus over another because there are so many variables. This doesn't mean that you cannot get better. Letting go, getting support, and finding well-being in the body helps the fight or flight tinnitus response to switch off.

This is spot on. If you want to get better from anything you don't focus on the negativity. If you do, you just feed whatever ails you. My goal is to get my mind and body to a point where I feel strong enough to help lift up others with this symptom, without getting sucked into a negative hole. These videos have been a good place for me to go to and find HOPE!

I have to be honest to say watching some of your videos right now is the first ever information that has actually calmed me down about my tinnitus. I think I got it a while back (maybe 6 months) but I basically didn't know anything about tinnitus, and only heard it at night sometimes. a few weeks back I had to figure out what was going on and geez... searching and searching coming closer to that it is probably tinnitus gave me panic, and I called the dictor right away. Since then I have been looking all over the web for any piece of information of bettering or curing my tinnitus.. but as you say they all say there is nothing to do, learn to live with it, and then there are scams all over trying to steal you money saying they have this miracle cure for it, which is incredibly sad. This lead me into crying and slowly falling into deppression and hopelessness since I don't want it as such young age as 20 and live through with it, I started to do the only things I can find recetly like exersise, sleep right with masking sound, no caffeine or sugar/chocolate or alcohol and more intake of vegetables, fruit and ginger. I'm not as panicked about it now, but it is taking a lot of my energy and time, and I can't enjoy things as much as I did before as I can't focus on anything else than my tinnitus. Thank you so much for being the first genuine and caring person that gives me and everyone else watching some kind of positive and calming view about this subject. You don't know how much this means to me. :)

Julian I am very curious. I have watched all your videos and I along with many others appreciate and respect the fact that you talk about tinnitus even though you got rid of it. But I have to ask - is your tinnitus physically gone? Can you literally not hear it anymore? Or have you just come to terms with it?

Negative mindsets are allowed to flourish, not just on Tinnitus forums but MANY medical forums as their user bases tend to be "herded" by people who have resigned themselves to suffering and feel the need to take others 'down' with them. They can be the loudest voices on the forum and they will send this signal to new users that 'there is no hope', which is absolutely nonsense. It's a negative picture being painted here, but that's not my intention. I'm speaking from experience, on not just T forums. My own humble advice to anyone reading this - find the people who are positive about T or ANY condition you may be experiencing and follow their lead.

what is your advice for visual snow ? I got it after a very stressful exam period, I also experience tinnitus & after images.. I did every possible test, they all came out fine. What is your advice on how to improve the situation ? And on the psychological level it's also devastating, I'm starting Yoga, healthy eating, and I'm following a Mindfulness program what else do you think I can do to improve my "psychological well being" ? plz respond, I'm really lost. Any advice would be appreciated..

Hi Ibrahim, it sounds like you've done the research and are starting on the right foot. The truth is the missing ingredient is TIME. As one Dr. Joe Dispenza says, it didn't take you one week to develop your current situation, so it won't take a week to undo it. From experience with T, I can tell you one of the biggest things is to incorporate meditation/yoga into your daily life. Also craniosacral therapy if possible (this has been most helpful for me). Anything that calms you down, and settles your system. Try incorporating some sort of exercise, like light jogging or cardio to start. All of this snowballs, but you need to give it time and stick to it. Personally, I went from a spot of having very, very debilitating Tinnitus to where I am now currently, which is the T has really come down, but I am looking to make further progress.

The irony about the positive stories on forums is that a lot of them have this implication and tone that "hey it never went away and never will but at least I can't focus on it anymore!" That and/or the comments of these are newbies vomitting their sad story without any positivity or even questions about their situation!

Let's be clear, a guy came into my practice this morning and said that for 50% of the time he hears nothing. That means silence in his head in a quiet room. For the rest of the time he would give it 1-2 out of 10. When he has it he has a bath, rubs his head and it goes away. This is not habituating, this is coming out of tinnitus completely. If he carries on the way he is going the amount of time spent in silence will increase. Most of the time I hear nothing.

"Why is there so much negativity about tinnitus?" Because it is fucking torturing me. I love you, Julian. I really do. I appreciate all that you do, and have sought solace on many occasions in your wonderful videos. However, I am bipolar with sever clinical OCD. Thus, my mind isn't wired the same as many others. The tinnitus will be the end of me. Of this I am certain ...

London Fella ...I've been suffering from tinnitus for over 20 years...Though it can be pretty irritating n bothersome, I have learnt not to give it too much attention. ..Certain days when my body is under stress it can become extremely intense that's when I realise my body is under too much stress n I start calm my body down by making time to relax, meditate, do deep breathing n accept my limitations...I also suffer from Chronic Fatigue, n have severe problems with my cervical spine n suffer from chronic anxiety, I also care for several members of my famoly so I do have an idea what you go through. ..Pls take each day as it comes, keep in mind there are always new treatments or remedies coming out all the time...You will be fine, it can take over our life if you allow it too...Just try n ignore it as much as you can n slowly it's power will start to diminish enough to allow you to have a reasonable way of life...There are people out there who are taking high levels of Vit D3 for a couple of weeks n have found the intensity has fallen from 8/9 to 3/4 within a few days...I am also thinking of doing this but again you need to do this safely...Men are said to use upto 30.000UI to 50,000 UI for a couple of weeks...And women somewhat less 15.000UI to 24.000UI...Though they have mentioned a reduction n complete freedom from tinnitus they have also reported the tinitus returning slowly when they stop. ..It is something you will have to decide if you are desparate enough to go down this road...Wish you better health...Yasmin UK

Mohammed, I wouldn't recommend supplementing with a pill for Vitamin D, because not only is getting it naturally so easy, but doctors make all sorts of pills that may resemble a substance like Vitamin D chemically, but in reality they don't behave in the body the same way at all. Steroids are a prime example of this, and it's why there are health risks involved in taking them. The anecdotal evidence of people improving their tinnitus with even a pill version of Vitamin D is definitely a good thing though. It falls in line with what I think, which is that the modern environment is toxic to human beings, and that we're not meant to get health problems like this. We shouldn't be getting these health problems, but the world around us is that stressful that we can't avoid getting them. For anyone that wants more Vitamin D, just go stand outside with a decent amount of skin exposed between the hours of 10 and 2, and try for 15 mins. That's all it will take if your skin is pale and light like mine is, and obviously the darker your skin the longer it will take to absorb all the Vitamin D you can for the day. London Fella, we humans aren't that different physically, your brain is very similar to everyone else's, it's your experiences and how you interpret them that wires the brain differently from another person, at least in terms of the nervous system, those are the main factors. The power to heal from tinnitus is in your hands, though I know it doesn't feel like it when you're suffering badly. Believe me, everyone in this comment section has been there. Keep watching Julians videos, and if you're in doubt about it, just assume for a moment that he's right, just pretend, and throw yourself into his teachings. It has improved my situation drastically, and I fully believe it can do the same for you.

Gray Not all locations on earth give a lot of sun, or the weather isnt that good to be standing around in (say, a country with a lot of snow.) a pill can be a good way to substitute as long as you find a good source. Its not always plausible to just spend 2-4 hrs outside everyday for many reasons

The reason people are negative is because the medical community tells them that they won’t get better. Are people going to believe you, or their doctor? I mean can you blame people. We are taught that these doctors are the authority on health. To believe a KZbinr over a legitimate doctor is tough sell.

This is not a unique view that I am proposing. The Jastreboff Model is widely known and accepted by the audiology community. What I am talking about is basic physiology. The fight or flight response is widely understood by most health practitioners. Joseph Rascheckers Ted talk clearly demonstrates this aspect of tinnitus. So please don’t think I am coming up with anything unique. I am just reflecting back commonly known knowledge to the tinnitus community.
@johnnymelsom3094
@johnnymelsom3094 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah I understand the basics here, I’m just wondering if there is any validity to what you state. Yes, the fight or flight mode would appear to make things more intense, but does this create/worsen tinnitus objectively? And by reducing this state of mind, can we cure or even lessen tinnitus objectivity? You would say yes, but unfortunately it’s just your opinion, this is not fact. When you do your videos you should state that these are only your opinions, and not state opinions as though they are facts, this would give the you a little more credibility. Trt does not involve actually lowering the volume (or having it back off) as you state. This model is based on habituation, basically ignoring the source, and putting it into the background of your mind. I’ve gone half deaf, due to ear trauma, now that I have damage to the ear I all of a sudden have mental problems, it’s all a little hard to buy.

I have to take issue with your views on tinnitus. Firstly not all tinnitus is the same. I've had the hissing version since I was in my teens and I'm now 73. I didn't even know what it was and I assumed everybody had this sort of noise in their head. I never even mentioned it to a doctor. I just accepted it. However, almost nine years ago I woke during the night from what I could only describe as a foghorn and as we live beside a lough I thought it might be a ship and assumed it must be a foggy night. It wasn't and I still have this relentless loud noise 24/7. After being checked out by an audiologist who arranged a brain scan I was reassured it was nothing sinister but another form of tinnitus. I'm telling you all this to let you know that there are some forms of tinnitus more difficult to cope with than others. I think I'm fairly philosophical about it and don't allow it to interfere with my daily life. I sometimes have great difficulty getting to sleep but when I wake up that is the time it's at its loudest and I have to get out of bed straightaway. I'm sorry to say I find your opinion of how people deal with tinnitus fairly condescending and patronising.

Thanks for your feedback. I had it for 20 years. It was so bad that I couldn’t work or sleep or hear the phone ringing. The worst thing that happened to me was being told that there was nothing I could do about it. In my book The Long Tide To Silence I describe in a lot of detail the painful and very distressing journey I took back to silence. I had screeching cats, jet engines hissing kettles Daleks and a rushing roaring sound that drove me round the bend. If only somebody had told me then what I know now. When I was told there was nothing I could do about it - it was like pushing me off a cliff. I find it incredible that People can go to health practitioners looking for something useful and are still treated in this way.
