AMD don't have the manufacturing capacity that Nvidia does for GPU wafers, if there had of been more 580s on the market I think they'd have pushed the 1060 in real time sales.

@@darthwiizius They don't? Both use TSMC!. Even though AMD used GloFlo for Polaris and TSMC for Navi, they had an overstock of Polaris and Navi 1 Chips that ended up going to miners. If anyone had a problem, it was Nvidia. When they went with Samsung 8nm for their 30-series chips, the yields were bad. It took several months for yields to improve.... which no one noticed because miners were snapping up cards before anyone else could get one.

@@m8x425 Simple numbers, Nvidia produce(receive) more GPU wafers which is born out in them producing way more finished dies and cards than AMD, way way more, each year. When all the new fab plants come on line that might change but the way it's shaping up that new capacity will likely be used to ship advanced manufacturing from Taiwan and the wider far east due to the Chinese threat.

Upscaling has really stretched the lifespan of older and more entry level cards. I've been using a 2060S for just over 3 years and would now normally be looking to buy a new card but I'm sticking with this one for another year maybe 2 because the upscaling will stop it falling off a cliff like my last 2 cards did. I'm happy as long as I can get 1080P60 locked as a minimum standard.

This. I've been playing every game 1080p 60 fps until now on gtx 1060. Lowest settings sure, but they still look good. Sometimes you have to use FSR 2.1 mods, or other mods, or plugins or whatever, but I managed to do it on every game. It was often way more fun figuring out how to achieve 60 fps than playing these games.

@@damazywlodarczyk 1060 6GB was what I replaced with the 2060S, that was before upscaling decided to make the 1060 6GB immortal. Best card I ever owned, bought it for £180 and sold it for £180 3 years later (minus a couple of quid on thermal paste). You can't ask more out of a card than that.

The 1650S was the last pro-consumer thing Nvidia did, runs like a modernised 1060 6GB and was released for just a tenner more than the non-S version. I bought the 2060S which was less of a good value release and more like restoring some value back that was lost on the non-S variant's release.

regarding why developers are doing such high resolution texture packs lately... it's not the PC market, entirely. It's because the PS5 has 16GB of VRAM that is shared by the CPU and GPU. Generally about 20% of memory is allocated by a program, leaving 80% (12.8GB) available for graphics. Some guy on YT posted a video about how the closest PC equivalent is the RX 6700 (non-XT) 10GB. Most PC users have cards below that, as you saw at the start of the video.

I've been using the 1650 Super for almost 3yrs now.. with combos of med/high it's rock solid at 1080p, doesn't draw a lot of power and (mine at least) is extrremely quiet. Having said that, I am starting to see the limits of that 4gb of ram it has, especially on newer games even at med/low settings.. why they didn't give this card 6gb of ram is beyond me.

The chip is not configured for 6 RAM chips it can only use 4 so would have to have had 8GB which 4 years ago would have added about 100 to the price putting it up against more powerful cards like 1660 Supers, 5600xts and 2060s. In fact the 1660s and 1660 Supers are the 6 chip versions of the 1650s and 1650Ss.

Yeah.... after seeing the GTX 1650 replace the 1060 and 970, I became a little bit SUS of the Steam hardware Survey. Now after seeing the 3060 blip, I've come to the conclusion that the Steam hardware Survey is broken. Gotta remember that the GTX 1650 is slower than the 970.... and going backwards doesn't make a lot of sense. Steam needs to increase the pool size of their survey or do something else different. I know a few people who basically live on Steam and they get polled once every few years.

I think Nvidia bribed steam to show the 3060 jump to the top spot. The 1650 can’t be beat because it’s been shipped in every budget laptop or cheap Walmart desktop for the past 4 years. The DIY market of consumers that go on KZbin and pour over benchmarks and care enough to spend double on a 3060 absolutely pales in comparison to the unwashed masses that just buy the cheapest “new” laptop or PC from bestbuy usually with s 1650

You need to check out the R7 7840U powered GPD WIN 2 or WIN MAX 4. This little APU has more frame chucking prowess than a 1650, but, less than a 1060 6GB.

fun fact: the 1050 ti at 1080p and the steam deck at 720p have similar performance (slightly favoring the steam deck) and means the 1650 at 1080 is only %24 faster. (basically 1650 is ass you should buy a rx 580 under $90 for actual good value.)

I just played Plagues Tale on my 2600X/5600XT build from 2019-2020. Used a mix of high/medium settings, 1080p quality, high textures, and got 75 fps on average. Played it off my external USB HDD, smooth as butter and looked amazing. A 5600XT is about equal to a 2060 Super, maybe 3-5 fps slower, and about 16% faster than a $270 RTX3050. It even gets a few wins over the $350 RTX3060 and its selling around $50-$75 used. That should be the number 1 GPU.

I use a 2060S, bought it 3 years ago to put in my R7 1700 build I built on the cheap in 2019 and these mid tier cards from then are really holding up at 1080P, I can run more or less everything at high settings (no RT) without upscaling and still get 60 locked or better. Upscaling will be my friend going forward, maybe going to be my first ever 5 year card.

Yeah it was lower at first, but it raised up towards the end of my run. I played for like 15 minutes and it was 59fps by the end of the run 🤷‍♂. Maybe I should have spent more time in the slower fps areas. Or maybe I should get better at doing consistent testing, that's probably the REAL solution, TBF.

I have a GTX 1650 in my old Dell Optiplex (the machine I work on) which is my daytime machine. I use it mostly as a terminal to do my office work. I did install Valheim and couple of other games on it and it works fine. Not a bad GPU at all. If you have to pick this versus say, an RX 6500 XT, it's a hard choice. The RX 6500 XT outperforms the GTX 1650 95% of the time even on PCIE Gen 3.0 ... but if you really really want a more well rounded card, I can't say that the GTX 1650 is a bad choice. I just wished that the 1650 and RX 6500 were priced cheaper. They still go for around 200$ CAD which is ridiculous. These cards should be the low budget alternatives to the old GTX 1030 but prices just don't seem to want to go down. The really low-end gamer has no recourse other than get a used GPU. To be honest, on the used market, there's a lot of choice now. I just got an RX 5700 XT for around 180$ CAD (130$USD) and it's faster than an RX 6600 and gives an RTX 3060 a run for it's money. Budget builders - go used.

This and the 6500 xt could be great low budget options but I guess there's just no incentive for Nvidia and AMD to lower them if people are still buying them (because there are no other options). honestly for 100 bucks more than a 1650, in Canada, you can get a 6700xt...you dont need the encoder if you use your CPU for streaming...you lose the same amount of performance about 5-10fps. but with the amount of performance you gain with the 6700xt you cant go wrong..not worth it for the 1650 imo

Any specific reason to buy Asus, I got a 1070ti and a tuf motherboard, it's really hard to modify settings on the fan gpu cause gpu tweak refuse to save your changes, it's imposible to set the MB to display temperature from the cpu and the gpu to show his on their separate RBG, then my mother board comes with the strix, fórmula, rampage.... Software but one day Asus decided that Tuf is a lower tier product now, so they downgrade the fan control app a lot and make it really bad, actually it's more a store for display products than real software. They laptop crap like the Asus smart gesture for trackpad on laptops.... I've seen experience with more brands and I find Asus is more like Dell or HP. I want to put my money in more costumer friendly brands, the only thing I might consider from Asus in the future will be a display, not more hardware.

Good performance on older games but all these new pc games are an unoptimized mess. Jedi Survivor, Redfall and so on and im sure it would really struggle in dead space or hogwarts legacy. I couldn’t get Jedi survivor to hold 60fps no matter the settings with my laptop. Its not the newest hardware but it has a 10875h, 16gb’s 3200mhz ram, 2070S max p at 1080p. Its a stuttering mess but runs ok on my desktop now with the latest patch maxed out at 4k but its a 7950x3d and a 4090. But I think the 2070S mobile is probably as power as a 2060 desktop. And I fill like a 2060 should be able to do 1080p 60 especially if you turn down settings. I think its the cpu in most laptops are much weak than a desktop cpu’s for the most part and my gpu utilization was 30-60% making a bad bottleneck. If using dlss or fsr doesn’t help performance then you know it’s because of your cpu. Devs are making it where you have to have a top tier gpu if you want the game to run at a decent performance. Most people would be better of just buying a ps5. If i was getting a cheap gpu i would get a 6600 or maybe a used 5700xt probably the best performance your gonna get for the price and pair it with a 5600 and cheap b550 board.

i think older gpus run better with a more modern cpu, to get the fps up more. i recently upgraded from a i7 7700k to a i7 11700k and it has made my gpu much much better than it was it was actually surprising.
