On a side-note, Josephine Baker was onboard the S.S.Normandie. Also onboard was Mrs Ziegfeld (I don't think it was Billie Burke though). On the first evening, Josephine descended the grand stairs to the 1st class restaurant, everyone rose to their feet and applauded her. All except Mrs Ziegfeld who remained seated and turned her back on her. I think she took the rest of her meals in her cabin-deluxe. She never forgot the humiliation she felt.

Forgot to add, Josephine also appeared in a few French films of the late 1920s -1930s. I just have to find the subtitles for the few ones I have as I've forgotten my 'School French'. I'm very old dating back to the early Mesozoic era.
