My top sports moments that I remember losing my mind over and can tell you all about where I was. - Endy Chavez catch. - Mets clinch the pennant against the Cubs in 15. - Lindor extension. - Alonso homer against the Brewers. - Soto signing.

Next step that STEARNS has to take: Re-sign ALONSO and MANAEA, trade for GARRET CROCHET who's young, has electric stuff, has twoyrs left on his contract and is a big upgrade on the starting staff. Too bad that STEARNS will not go after BURNES, TANNER SCOTT or JEFF HOFFMAN because of his MINI MARKET/MONEY BALL PHILOSOPHY unless COHEN steps in like he did for SOTO.

If we have draft picks on the line with our spending why don’t we defer money?
@dashx110317 күн бұрын
Pay what is necessary for Pete. His bat, behind Lindor and Soto, is important. Go hard after Sasaki, though I think that is a huge longshot. Otherwise, sign some solid pitching arms, ones that fit with Stearns' approach ... MANAEA, Buehler, etc. And add to the bullpen. If those things happen, I love this team heading into '25. My downer scenario is: 1) that the Mets don't add to the offense beyond Soto, reducing what should have been a huge offensive boost to merely a solid upgrade; 2) the Mets don't sign legit starting pitching options, and instead rely on Megill and Blackburn to fill the void; and 3) that the Mets just cheap out on the bullpen options. I have faith in Stearns, so I'm more than willing to wait and see. But there is definitely work to be done.

We can lose these international signing pool picks if we keep making slick moves like trading for Ocuna who’s suddenly a much more valuable asset this year than he was last year. I think the power of Stearns is in the subtle signings & trades he does but also on how he receives assets with slick moves as well. We may sign a guy for 2 years that seems like we’re on win now mode only to use him as a trade asset in a year or 2. In Stearns We Trust

The "Yankee way" is just simply outdated. You can't offer 3/4 of a billionaire dollars then pause on something as trivial as a suite. Whether or not this played a major role is irrelevant. At the very least it left a stain on the offer and a very telling insight into what type of atmosphere he would have spent the rest of his career in. There's no question regarding the greatness with the history and past of the Yankees franchise, but you can't let that history and past dictate and jeopardize the future of your franchise, which is exactly what Steinbrenner did when he balked at the proposal of including a suite into the offer.
@cleanslate200416 күн бұрын
I'm a Yankee fan & I would've picked the Mets at this point. Boone is a sweet guy, but a horrible manager. Judge is a remarkable talent, also a sweet guy, but collapses in the post season. Thirdly; they're fundimentally horrible. 4th; they're hair policy is archaic & does nothing for their quality of play. All of this should be addressed by Hal after being embarrassed year after year for much too long.

I hope Butto suprises us. If he cracks the rotation and can put up. … 3.50 ERA, and keep his WHIP anywhere near what he had this year … That’s a high level mid rotation guy without having to spend the money. I’m more excited about Butto than Blackburn and no one is talking about a healthy Senga. If he’s back to himself our rotation is easily better this year. We def need one more frontend starter & maybe another backend starter just to go in loaded up. These pitchers get hurt too often & with Christian Scott recovering this year we have less to pull from in the minors that are major league ready
@dashx110317 күн бұрын
I won't be surprised if Butto is in the rotation, and I won't be surprised if he does well. My concern with Butto is that if he is a rotation piece, what do the Mets do to fill out the bullpen. That is a huge question.
@3rdFloor17 күн бұрын
@ if Butto is a rotational piece then it’s a better problem to have because he wasn’t good without 3-4 days rest because he’s on a starters routine still. That was the problem last year … he was really bad with less than 3 days rest. Might as well have him as a starter and fill out the bullpen with guys we know can handle the schedule. Stearns needs to Stearns on this issue cause I’m with you. Bullpen concerns me
@dashx110317 күн бұрын
@@3rdFloor I think Butto is almost an X factor for the Mets moving forward. He was relegated to the bullpen out of need last season, and he did well for the most part. That said, he was believed within the organization to be a starter. And I think that is his best course moving forward. Do I expect him to be an "ace?" No, I don't. Do I think he can be a really good mid-rotation guy? Absolutely. And guys like that are so valuable. It won't surprise me in the least if Butto slots in at #4 or #5 next season and pitches great. He's a guy that is easy to overlook, but he showed me a lot last year with regard to the evolution of his "stuff," and I really like him as a starter moving forward.
@3rdFloor16 күн бұрын
@ well .. let’s just hope he fills in and becomes a quality starter. That would change the dynamic of this team if he does. Even if he’s a dependable 4-5
@dashx110316 күн бұрын
@@3rdFloor Exactly. He's the kind of kind of guy that comes up from the minors and really fills a need ... something we having seen too much from Mets pitching prospects lately. He could be a real boost to the Mets in '25. Just ably manning one of the rotation spots would do so much to further the overall goals of the team. And I certainly like what he brings to the table. When he struggled out of the pen, which he did on occasion, it seemed like it was a "comfort level" thing ... that he just wasn't used to pitching on consecutive days or pitching twice in five days ... that kind of thing. I would like to see the Mets just bring Butto into spring and tell him "you are a starter, go show us what you have." If things work out in a way in which he is just a better asset in the bullpen ... so be it. But I really believe he could be a more than solid #4 type starter for years to come. And that is super valuable to have in house.

I don’t know man. Manaea showed he can pitch IN NY and on a big stage IN NY. That performance vs Phillies and even his game 2 perfornance when he clearly had nothing in the tank at the end of the year is massive. Manaea might be worth it and in year 2 & 3 in our system .. he might outperform 25 a year. If he’s the guy he showed in the 2nd half he’s worth more than what people are offering. So it might be deal. Mets would know more than anybody if he’s that guy. Not everyone can pitch in NY

I don't know about that. The money was close, and the reporting indicates that the Yanks were willing to discuss a matching offer, but Soto decided the Mets were his destination. It is what it is. And it really isn't the case that one can say "he doesn't care about winning." He went to a team that swept the Yankees last year, and objectively performed better against the eventual champs in the playoffs than the Yankees did. He knew he could "win" with either team. Pretending that the Mets don't have that potential is just, .. well, it is dumb. There is every reason to believe the Yanks will be contenders. There is also every reason to believe the Mets will be that too.
