Dr David Hamilton discussing how kindness makes us happy and benefits the heart through the effects of the hormone oxytocin.
After completing his PhD, David worked for four years in the pharmaceutical industry developing drugs for cardiovascular disease and cancer. During this time he also served as an athletics coach and manager of one of the UK's largest athletics clubs, leading them to three successive UK finals.
Upon leaving the pharmaceutical industry, David co-founded the international relief charity Spirit Aid Foundation and served as a director for two years.
He is now a bestselling author of seven books published by Hay House and also writes a regular blog for the Huffington Post.

Very inspiring and helpful. I am recuperating from heart surgery and have been soul searching how did my heart develop 3 occluded arteries. In this talk I realized how as I have aged I choose to close my heart instead of living from the heart. I have very few close friends a don't get to interact with them often. I like the idea of doing a kindness day, and practicing the Buddhist compassionate meditation. Then it occurs to me how many people like me would benefit from the support of a kindness club. Perhaps I'll start one.

This is so lovely and inspiring, thankyou x I really agree with the fact that we're wired to be kind and not selfish. If we were wired to be selfish, the world wouldn't have evolved the way it did.

Whenever I show kindness I’m told that I’m either being manipulative, a goody two shoes or weak. Not everyone wants or appreciates kindness. As a consequence, I now withhold my compassion and give it only to my husband and dog.

Kindness is fine as long as it doesn't turn into people pleasing.
