LEGO Icons 10327 Dune Atreides Royal Ornithopter is a real treat for fans of Denis Villeneuve's movie adaptation of Frank Herbert's iconic literary space opera. Watch as LEGO designer Mike Psiaki unveils the set, before immediately picking it up and swooshing it around the room.
Some LEGO sets are built to be played with, and this is probably the most swooshable LEGO for Adults set since Galaxy Explorer.
According to Psiaki, the idea for the set came immediately after the LEGO designers first watched Dune Part 1, as their initial thought was wondering whether they could make the ornithopter out of LEGO.
This was no mean feat, as the ornithopter's large wings required a new element, and the mechanics of giving the set the range of movements that they wanted ended up taking a lot of work to get right.

Yeah, I can forgive a few visible pins from bad angles but this is ridiculous on an Icons set. It's a deal breaker for me. Out of place primary colours break the illusion and make it look like a toy. Sadly, I'll be passing because of this dogmatic idiocy of Lego.

Well I am old enough to know the original Dune. This remake is excellent as it the Ornithopter, and as a modeller some Tamiya Acrylic German Grey & fine brush will cover the pins easily. Cheers.

Just amazing. Yes i will buy it. One of the best sets i ever saw! 8 minifigs? Wow. Same price in SWs gets you 4/5 as always! So some designers can make amazing sets... others... not so much!

It can be very frustrating being a LEGO Star Wars fan. Seems like other themes get way higher attention to detail. There are worse themes though so I guess that's something.

This set looks amazing. It's definitely top shelf Lego, regardless of whether you care about dune (i don't, haven't seen the movie, read the book 35 years ago and didn't enjoy it). I'll still buy this because it's beautiful and fun

Which does annoy me a bit that Lego cheaped out with the UCS X-Wing and didn't make a new canopy piece for it that's accurately shaped. No offense to the Ornithopter, but the X-Wing is arguably the most famous starfighter in sci-fi pop culture media and deserves to have specialized new molded pieces, especially for the price.

I was worried it wouldn’t live up to expectations. I have an awesome MOC and felt strongly about having large single-piece blades. Then I see this and think “Holy Hell!” That thing is beautiful and I love the fold-back wings. Wow!!!

This is an amazing set. I want to be able to swoop it around early next year! My one gripe is the selection of minifigs - the Atreides costuming is a bit inconsistent. I'd be happier to know if there are a couple of extra still suits and an Atreides Armor to make them more consistent with movie scenes.

Yes, the #legoiconsduneatreidesroyalornithopter is really a great model, it's really fun to build. Even if it's a hidden LEGO Technic model! In my opinion, it’s already the best LEGO model of 2024!

All the KZbinrs that went to this seem to nothing about Dune or don’t like it. This was my favourite film in 2021 and will buy it but looks like it’ll tank it’s just not popular or mainstream enough. Everyone in my social life (expect my dad) found the film rubbish or boring 😞 well fingers crossed it succeeds
