South China Sea is the whole area of water in this area, West Philippines Sea is only the portion of South China Sea that falls under Philippine EEZ. Philippine has no claim over China, only China who is greedy enough to claim the whole area of the sea, including the area claimed by not only the Philippines but the countries around this area. Is it because it is called South CHINA Sea? How about naming this area of waters as ASEAN sea?

It's Philippine Sea, the only country in that body of water is the Philippines Sea just like Taiwan Sea. China is nowhere to be found in that body of water. They have only the shorelines. Taiwan look more on Japan as its Savior. Your original tribes are related to the Filipinos thsn Japan but you look up more on East Asian countries. So go ahead don't run to Philippine shores when that Lunatic Xi decided to invade all of you. Philippines wasonce a territory of the USA what do you all expect? Philippines the only catholic and westernized ahead of all Asian countries since the time of Magellan. You Chinese people don't get it.

I'm sure many countries around the world will definitely siding the Philippines because the Philippines is in the right position in accordance with the law of the seas. Greedy, bully and arrogant China is now facing the consequences of being crocs which sucking all area SCS suppose to be should be shared to all countries sorroumding the sea. We Filipinos will always stand our ground to defend our rights. The Filipinos have already shown our bravery during the Korean war the Filipino soldiers never backed off even a single inch they fought to defend what was right even without sophisticated weapons only their bravery and courage. Now with the support of allies the USA, Japan, Australia, UK, South Korea, Israel, Germany, Denmark & other countries we strongly stand for the truth to defend what is for the Philippines.

To a certain extent, yes the Philippines are helping to protect the region, but not alone. Taiwan, South Korea and Japan are all under threat from China's asperations. So the Philippines are not alone regionally. In addition there are significant internal social and economic issues within China. China has issues in its western and northwestern areas with the Muslim population that they have been abusing. Then there is the border conflict in its southwestern region with India. China has been cutting river water supplies that naturally flow to VietNam and other southeastern Asia countries. China's relationship with Russia is more of convenience and is prortayed warmly to the world, but that's really just a facade. I am unsure about the strength of their relationship with Mongolia, which seems rather strong historically, but in modern times there is a strengthening sense of Mongolian nationalism. And of course Tibet would want its independence back. So, China has less than optimal relations basically surrounding most of its borders. China starting a full scale military conflict within the next few years is doubtful, but when dealing with authoritarian politicians we can never really tell.

Former President Duterte is still pro China and trying to speak on behalf of the CCP. It helps that EDCA is formulated because China refused to honor the arbitration. The US military had been partnered with the Philippines since World War 2 and there’s also a defense treaty between the Philippines and the US. The fact that China is aggressive and bullied the Philippines ever since that time that US left the Philippines. Our country is now in a better position now that the US military is helping the Philippines. This should thwart China from invading our country.

When missile shrapnel hits you, then you understand the consequence. Waste oftime to explain until you experience it. You want war, you get war. 😂😂😂 bTW the IAT was an illegal court. Why didn't Philippines goes to ICJ like what Malaysia did against Philippines. Simple. Philippines can't prove that these islands belong to them. UNCLOS alone is insufficient as Philippines signed it with an exemption clause like. China. Historical lands cannot be challenged. These are Chinese historical islands found by China before Philippines became a nation. That is why Malaysia Natuna Island belongs to Indonesia today although it is within Malaysia EEZ. Indonesia claimed it before Malaysia became independent.

I think the Philippine Government practices Strategic Ambiguity in terms of it's Relations with Taiwan. It is adhering to One China Principle which is mostly based on what the current Global Situation, where it is heavily linked to how the West treated the China PRC-ROC relations. But in terms of Social and Economic Relations, Filipinos and Taiwanese had a very close people-to-people ties and shared affiliation to Peace, Stability, Security, Progress, Democracy, Freedom and Liberty ideals. That's a very different on how the Filipino Public perceived the Chinese Citizens under Communist China, which is infamous for all negative, toxic and inhumane values, that many of them brought from their corrupted Mainland China to the Philippines, through illegal and unethical means and ways.

The negative views on Chinese people is so ignorant of us Filipinos because our media put it that way & we consume it from US also. This needs more cultural exchanges between Philippines & China, so we can better understand Chinese people, & so to stop these general negative judgement of Chinese citizen. Furthermore, we often do not take into consideration that Taiwan started the idea of 9-dash line that the Chinese govt adopted. In a realist point of view, it is understandable that China needs to strengthen their control of South China Sea, as based on their history, they are attacked through that part, also the Taiwan issue & the actions of US also. These factors give them insecurity, & unfortunately for us, we are stuck in between. The best course for Philippines is to strike a code of conduct with a leverage. That leverage is US for now. But the risk for Philippines is welcoming US too much & lose control in those sites, thereby making our country as a pawn to exhaust Chinese missiles. The EDCA needs to be amended, as the current one only requires the pre-position of supplies a notification to PH govt, & not approval from PH govt. This is why it is important for us Filipinos to watch this relationship with US also coz its a slippery slope.

What is not much discussed in forums is that one of the reasons Duterte gravitated towards China is the failure of the US in aiding the Philippines in the Scarborough incident in 2012, during those time Washington was preoccupied in Iraq and Afghanistan, plus the relationship of China and the US then was still great and optimistic. When Manila asked for assistance in the Scarborough stand off Obama did not act, they were apprehensive because the US doesnt want to offend China who is a major economic partner than Manila. A decision that will bite the Americans 10yrs later because the US did not anticipate that after that incident China will be in an island building campaign across the South China sea. Thats why Duterte hated Obama so much that he lashed at him during an ASEAN summit when Obama castigated Duterte about human rights. Duterte realized that its futile to go against China knowing that it cant count on the US, that its much better to just cooperate with Beijing to hopefully find a resolution with the issue, but as we all know that didnt also worked out as Duterte hoped to.

Duterte having lots of complaints against China is an understatement. The fact is that Duterte visited Beijing and when he came home to Manila, he said he was threatened with war by China if he does not kowtow to China. And China is only the 3rd largest trading partner of Philippines after the US and Japan. No, Philippines is not economically dependent on China.

China's deadset in its 9 dash line. The Philippines per se is too weak against such a superpower. So it ties up with the US, the opposing superpower. And, the whole of ASEAN as such is hoping for a balanced power arrangement in and for the region. China will not suffer countries not recognizing its 1 China Policy in respect of Taiwan. This is really the only part that can seriously unleash war on the part of China. Strategically however, in order for China to defend the Taiwan that it sees as its province, it has to have a secured 1st and 2nd island chain - up to the 9 dash line - to guarantee a commanding victory should the inevitable arise. What's 🤔🤔🤔 puzzling is why China is bulldozing it's own fishing interest in those waters overlapping the Philippines' legitimate fishing rights. Since this seems to be practically the main bone of contention for the Philippines. What China really needs is only the geopolitical interest for its own defence and its enemy is really the US, not the Philippines, i.e. not the fish. Pushing its fishing all the way to the said overlapping waters has caused the Philippines to again have to allow US bases in the country. Frankly, I should have thought China could have let this fishy part go without sacrificing its strategic geopolitical defence advantage because now, with 4 new US military bases in the Philippines, this Chinese military advantage is made perhaps merely nominal. Not that China will lose because of this but that the cost of war will pile up quite a bit against itself over the longer term. In all of this, the one to suffer the most will be the Philippines. The country is caught in a Catch 22 situation: damned if I do, damned if I don't.

Which then opens the notion that China is not only gearing for Taiwan, but everything else instead. They hide their vicious and expansionist ambitions by utilizing Taiwan as a fulcrum for conflict, which will then justify any militaristic actions in the mythical 9 dash line (practically the entire South East Asia) to subtly take over this huge body of water without any thought whatsoever for those who rightfully own the it. It's going to be a multifront conflict, solely because a single nation cannot act with lawfulness and fairness in mind.

Who Owns WPS? --Fu King-S Anyone with eyes that look at the map knows that the Spratleys and Scarborough shoal/reef are so far away from China , lol. The ancestors of many islanders are known to be great ancient mariners who brought their core traditions from Taiwan ( who were originally from the mainland thousands of years before there was even a country named "China.") These people found themselves in the Philippines where the Austronesian culture flourished and became a launching pad to the Western Pacific into Micronesia, then have had admixture with Melanasians, and then finally proceeding to Polynesia (including Hawaii and Easter island---some evidence although inconclusive suggests they have reached or traded with Chile). To the West, these ancient people navigated further into many island nations and went through the Indian ocean into Madagascar (similarly there are arecheological evidence that suggests they reached the nearby shore of Mozambique in the African mainland, which is nothing compared to how far they already travelled so early in human history)---all without the help of a compass and sextant. Furthermore, there are archeological evidence that they were able to go round trip from different islands with varying distances at the height of their maritime exploration. Austronesian culture can in fact be traced from Taiwan (Taiwanese native that still compose 2-3% of current Taiwanese and many not in this number have admixed with Han, Japanese, Filipinos, etc that make up the current Taiwanese population---thus, NEVER a part of China either and only adopted Han culture when the KMT established their dictatorship that included people already in Taiwan that had at that time a Japanese culture). All of these things happened thousands of years before the "middle kingdom," was even a thought in anyone's mind. It is traceable from their cultural package, that included their domesticates, material culture (e.g., pottery, art, etc), beliefs, language, and most especially DNA. None of these are present in any "Chinese" claims until so much later and many are even lies if not exaggeration and false logic---All propaganda by the CCP to illegally occupy and steal the reosucers of their neighbors,. The "Chinese"on the hand, were unable to take the nearest islands even in 1200's when all the greatest Chinese ship builders were commissioned by the Mongol empire (i.e., Yuan dynasty) to build a large armada to bring Japan (who they considered a vassal state) to heel. Yet a regular storm experienced by many fisherman in ISEA even now destroyed the best ships constructed by the Chinese. Later in the Ming dynasty with Zheng He (only closely hugged the coast so he and his crew can have a chance of survival because of the tendency of Chinese junks to capsize, lol), considered their greatest mariner, did not even reach Taiwan (despite Chinese propaganda who would insist he did but cannot produce evidence when he was clear about everywhere else he went, lol) for the very reason that the "Chinese," were not known to be the greatest mariners and only established a fleeting foothold in Taiwan during the late colonial period (after learning something from their trade with ISEA and of course the western powers that would carve "China," up) after the native culture and people of the island were destroyed by western powers well before the Qing dynasty (who would claim Taiwan at this time, but was never recognized by anyone, including the Dutch East India company who was kicked out by the latter who defeated the Ming loyalists; before the Dutch can retake Taiwan, Japan ministered the islands and was forced by the US under the treaty of San Francisco to give it up after WW2, but not to anyone in particular---Certainly NOT China NOT even to the KMT, or Kuomintang who they allowed as refugees to stay there, since they were allies fighting the Japanese during WW2; KMT or Kuomintang would establish a dictatorship and forcibly change the culture from Japanese to Han with addition of Han immigration to Taiwan, relations eventually improved after democratization which kicked out the KMT from power) who defeated the Ming loyalists in Taiwan---but never had a chance to govern it because China was also being carved up in the same era that they lost Hong Kong, Macau, and Upper Manchuria (The Qing is a foreign dynasty that conquered China who defeated the Ming who retreated to Taiwan only to be defeated by the Qing swiftly; the Qing were Manchus---their homeland is now a geographic concept due to the late colonial period), still an official part of Russia called Vladivostok to this very day. So for the Spratley's to be part of China when their Chinese junks are known to capsize with regular storms of the area and did not even reach Taiwan until they improved their boats from knowledge from Western pirates and of course from their interaction with islanders through trade is just laughable! Taking back these islands should be one of the goals of the alliance with the west. Otherwise China will destroy not only the environment, steal the fish that most Filipinos should be enjoying when they sell them for cheap to the world's markets along with destroying the delicate reef systems that the ancestors of ISEA nations have taken care of. In addition, the Chinese under the CCP will BRIBE CORRUPT POLITICIANS to do NOTHING. ANY POLITICIAN THAT SUPPORTS CHINA ARE CORRUPT TRAITORS who would rather see the native Filipinos enslaved by the Chinese government. Filipinos should demand that America expel this foreign invasion of the land and resources that rightly belong to the Philippines based on history, culture, archeology, legal rulings, and frankly anyone with common sense. Frankly, AMERICA HAS AN OBLIGATION UNDER THE COMMON DEFENSE TREATY TO PROTECT ANY INVASION OF PHILIPPINES' TERRITORIES WITHIN ITS EEZ AND SHOULD HAVE NEVER ALLOWED THIS INVASION TO HAVE TAKEN PLACE!!! As is commonly known, the Spratelys are also thought to have a LARGE SUPPLY OF OIL AND GAS AND WERE STOLEN BY CHINA!!! Something like this has happened before when Filipinos lost out to the claims from their neighbors to the South (when it clearly was and is Philippine property) and the country is paid by nothing more than a pittance that's not even adjusted for inflation annually! Pull up your pants, know who you, are and how great your civilization is since ancient times. Stop looking at the colonial past for validation of your own unique existence (and a maritime culture unrivaled until the modern world) of what IS even yours!!! Open your eyes, have some dignity, and protect your country by providing them with honest incorruptible leaders that will stand up to tyranny and corruption!!! Do you not think that Beijing will rapidly destroy the area so that it becomes unlivable (this is the same behavior they have in mainland China, so now that they destroyed their environment, they just steal it from others)? Lastly, the Spratley's are the gateway to the strait of Malacca---an important economic and military choke point. The Chinese thinks that Filipinos are stupid. Instead of a defeatist attitude of a victim of colonization from long ago that still haunts you, look at your history and inheritance and draw strength to prevent another COLONIAL POWER like CHINA to even attempt of enslaving, much less look down on you ever again. Do NOT VOTE FOR CORRUPT POLITICIANS THAT ALLOW CHINA TO DOMINATE AND OUTCOMPETE LOCAL BUSINESSES, BRING DRUGS, AND LISTEN TO PROPAGANDA AS THEY SEND MORE ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS THERE (frankly, to insist they are Filipinos but look down on you at the same time, as they use the resources, freedom, and opportunities of the country for themselves and their children to further deprive you of the same and further contribute to the drug problem and corruption there---the CHINESE ARE THE BIGGEST DRUG LORDS IN THE WORLD AND HAVE TIES WITH SOUTH AMERICAN CARTELS, AND ARE KNOWN AND DOCUMENTED TO USE DRUGS TO SUBDUE THEIR TARGET NATION; they learned this from the 1st and 2nd Opium wars when the British used the same evil tactics on the ruling foreign Qing dynasty---yet today mainland China doesn't have a drug problem because their government controls the DRUG LORDS WHO THEN BRIBE CORRUPT LOCAL POLITICIANS TO ESCAPE PROSECUTION AND PUNISHMENT AS THEY CONTINUALLY DESTROY THEIR TARGET COUNTRY, i.e., PHILIPPINES---so how many Chinese exactly were killed or brought to jail by Duterte??? Oh that's right...NONE. Only local poor Filipinos were killed extrajudicially). All of these are used by the Chinese under the CCP to claim a territory. Maybe it's time you show them who you truly are. FILIPINOS, FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHTS AND FREEDOM!!!

Ally countries of the Philippines such as US, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Canada, France, Israel, UK, etc., are showing that when your abiding the laws many countries will definitely on it's side. In short, there's always good that will stand against evil but the Philippines is also strengthen it's military powers by acquiring war ships, high-powered weapons and air assets to counter China's aggression towards the Philippines right in maritime territory. China had mo record in winning battles against any countries ever since just only intimidating and flaunting it's fake superpower but the Philippines maybe a small and not rich country but the level of patriotism of the Filipinos is more than enough to encounter China's greediness. The Philippines is abiding it's laws of the seas so we Filipinos will always stand for the Philippines whatever it takes. Once upon a time China was invading South Korea backing by Soviet Union and North Korea to colonize south Korea then the UN appealing it's member states to help South Korea and the Philippines responded sent Filipino soldiers to help south Korea during the battle in Yultong the 1k+ Filipino soldiers bravely faced the 40k+ Chinese soldiers which China tasted it's defeat.

With the establishment of more military bases (Through EDCA) in Batanes islands (Northern part of Philippines and South of Taiwan), it should serve as a deterrent against China's aggressive posturing towards Taiwan and Japan. It's also important to note that Philippines have been betrayed by China several times. The first one was during President Aquino term when China and the Philippines had a standoff in Scarborough Shoal. Obama (USA) brokered and negotiated for both Philippines and China to stand down and both parties agreed. Unfortunately, after Philippines left China stayed. They built artificial islands saying it's primarily for civilian and humanitarian purposes but militarized it as soon as it was constructed. When President Duterte took the Philippine presidency, he sought out a way to peacefully cooperate with China since they made a lot of promises of economic benefits. Unfortunately most of China's promises never materialized. Now that a new president (President Marcos Jr.) is now in power, Philippines has somewhat learned it is impossible to cooperate with China when it has already proven that they can never be trusted. Add to the fact of China's attitude and treacherous nature towards other countries, no one truly trusts China even with promises of economic benefits. India, Bhutan, Japan, South Korea, and Vietnam are one of the few countries who look at China with suspicion. Even Russia doesn't trust China after stealing it's technologies and their claims in Bolshoi Ussuriysky Island.

The renewal of the Philippines and Washington towards partnership in the defense and economy, helps or an advantage of Taiwan. Because of the said ties, the USA granted to expand EDCA, sites, in the countrysides particularly in the North Luzon which is very near to Taiwan. So if China will attack Taiwan eventually USA can immediately response in a short period of time. Just to rescue Taiwan as being promised by the Washington. EDCA sites are very disadvantageous to China. That's why China now delayed to attack Taiwan. So Taiwan should be thankful to the Philippines government in welcoming the USA Military Bases in 10selected areas across the country.
