Agents of Shield introduced the Inhumans world very well, I thought. So why not use that known world, to develop the Inhumans show or movie? Seems stupid to create an all new group, and expect us to care about them.

This is the original group of Inhumans. The problem with this venture is that since it's the first season it won't be tying into anything introduced by Agents of Shield. That way if it flops(harder than it already has) there will be no connection and thus no associated lore holes.

First 2 episodes were done in the IMAX theaters only. Meanwhile, with the first 2 episodes being re-shown in the last week of September on ABC network for a full season kick off. The way it's already going, it will get a one season run or worse, cancelled mid season..

This was the first Marvel project in a long while (probably not since 2003's Elektra to be quite honest) that after seeing the teaser trailer I immediately said "Nope, this is shit, and I refuse". Keep in mind, I say that as someone of who actually enjoyed "Iron Fist" and never got the hate (despite it's inaccuracies). Inhumans is arguably one of Marvel's most creative and unique properties that they own and the shitty production value was an immediate red flag for me. To be honest, none of the ABC Marvel shows were able to hold my interest. I have felt the ABC shows have been the weakest links in the MCU. However, I at least gave each one a chance, this one I won't. I was astonished this was even considered for an IMAX release, I mean who would pay those inflated prices for this piece of shit?!

This is one of those projects where you just feel bad for the actors. They got casted into what should have been a huge break for them. A lead character in something made by Marvel while Marvel is on fire with society? No brainer. In my opinion the whole thing should've just tied into Agents of SHIELD. The show did a great job of slowly introducing Inhumans into the MCU and one of the main characters of the show became an Inhuman herself (Daisy Johnson/Quake) who had her own really good story arc that spanned through season 2. The show continues to go from strength to strength and it's now into it's fifth season and it's because of great characters and great writing. With the benefit of hindsight - Marvel would've been far better off introducing the Royal Family through AoS, hell they could've given them their own season to get their feet under the table. Probably too late now.

I'm not saying my problem is with how they are alike in origin and story. What I'm saying is that Marvel is trying to fill the hole that X-men is with another franchise. Inhumans looks and acts like a crappy version of X-men, with the leather costumes downplayed from the comics and the way they're spoken about and treated by humans. If Marvel had gone and really played up the costumes and space things and made it colorful like GotG I'd have no problem. But to me it just feels like an X-men knockoff. Not something new like Inhumans should feel. And I'm only talking about MCU Inhumans, not comics Inhumans. I'm aware that in the comics they're completely different.

Actually, they should have just not focused on the royal family. Most of those characters never seemed that interesting. The main one that has interesting powers is black bolt, most of the rest would barely register on the D-List on an xmen show. Medusas hair? oh, it moves... big deal. the guy with the hooves? I mean these are some shit powers. In fact, and I can't believe I'm saying this, but the power in that playstation show POWERS had better powers this the royal family outside BB. Just use the existence of inhumans to create your own television xmen. I just saw the gifted last night, and it was pretty good. Just having people with powers, newly discovered no less, is a natural draw. And you can side step the anemic characters of the royal family.

The problem with Inhumans was that Marvel Studios, or more specifically Marvel CEO Ike Perlmutter wanted to have a de-facto replacement for the X-Men (since Fox still has the film rights to X-Men), which the Inhumans distinguished themselves from the X-Men in the comics long ago, so what he did was turn the Inhumans into something they weren't simply as a means to spite Fox for having the film rights to X-Men. This was combined with the fact that Kevin Feige, Marvel's head of film (and the guy behind the MCU), didn't want to do an Inhumans film, but it was forced on Kevin by Ike Perlmutter via executive mandate, while Kevin wanted to do Black Panther and Captain Marvel, which Ike didn't want because "black people and women don't sell toys!". This, combined with the Spider Man deal with Sony, caused a falling out between Kevin and Ike that split Marvel's film division from the television division. So what happened next was that Ike took a gamble with the Inhumans, and ended up losing, all because he wanted the MCU to have an ersatz X-Men simply as a means to spite Fox. If anything, it's the most ambitious thing that Marvel has ever done, especially the part where he put it in IMAX theaters for whatever reason.

Ah Jeez come on Rick! Like seriously jeez! Who are you, Morty? No, we won't be grateful that we have a poorly done version of a show. We won't support a TV show done poorly just because it's based on a property we like. A true fan would want them to uphold some standard of quality, not just accept whatever low quality trash they want to release (that's a fanboi but not a true fan). We don't need a garbage production hurting the image of the property and genre. Though it's just getting started and I'll give it some time to pick up it has been really painful to watch so far and it could have been done so well. Medusa has this annoying personality, and while they did shave her head so we don't have to see that terrible wig or 1990's quality CGI anymore that's even worse because now she's basically just like a normal person and not a super. The costumes are so very poorly done, the CGI is terrible and there were numerous bad choices of actors to play certain characters. I'd love to see it done well and get the justice it deserves but this drivel they've been releasing for this show hasn't been enjoyable so far and I'm not going to suffer through it just because it's a Marvel property. And no, they haven't done a wonderful job with whatever they do. They've done a terrible job here and a poor one with Iron Fist. Legion was a surprise hit though. That's a different show that would be ashamed to be seen in the same universe as this one however.

It just looked cheap. Cheap and shit. Black Bolt is, for me, and a lot of people, an iconic character - but they couldn't even bother to get his costume right. He has to wear that mask - without it's sound focussing fork, he's just another stentorian superhero. Medusa's costume was all wrong, and to be quite honest, the whole cast looked like they'd rather be elsewhere. Just awful. It seems that Marvel Pictures can do all the main heroes correctly - differently, admittedly, but correctly, but when it comes to lesser-known characters, there seems to be a 'near enough' sort of mentality, a kind of "they're not very well known to the masses, so we'll do this to them, and nobody will be the wiser" thought process. Au contraire. If you aren't going to treat beloved characters with the respect their fans deserve - leave them be.

Looper misses the big picture here. Inhumans is a pet project of Marvel Conic's division Ike Perlmutter. He has a years long feud with Fox regarding the X-Men and Fantastic Four. He has cancelled the FF comics and has been trying to replace the X-Men with the Inhumans in Marvel's comic and screen universes. However Marvel Studios is run by Kevin Feige now. Back when Inhumans was on the movie slate Feige still answered to Perlmutter. This nearly caused Feige, the Billion Dollar Man to quit and take a job over at Fox or WB. Disney CEO Bob Iger had to personally step in to straighten out the mess. The end result Marvel Studios was completely severed from Marvel Comics control. Feige and Marvel Studios reported directly to the Disney Studio Chief and Iger. The Marvel Comics division no longer had their overbearing influence on the movies. Jeff Loeb Brian Michael Bendis, Dan Slott and crew were pretty much locked out of the movies completely. But Marvel Comics and Perlmutter retained control of the TV shows. Feige gets along with Fox. He has hopes of cutting an FF deal like they did Spider-Man with Sony. So the first thing he killed was Perlmutter's Inhumans "wannabe X-Men" movie. Even though the comics fans have continuously rejected the Inhumans, rather dull D listers, as X-Men replacements, Ike keeps trying. Hence this horror of a tv show. If you wonder why you don't see much crossover between the TV shows and movies anymore? See above. They talk just enough to keep the tv shows more or less in continuity with the movies, by Disney mandate. The biggest issue with the Inhuman's is they were never intended to be protagonists, except for Crystal and Lockjaw. They weren't designed to be heroes. They are Sympathetic Antagonists. A Problem for the heroes to solve. Preferably on tense but friendly terms. Not a super hero team. They can't work on screen because the Thor movies already did what they are better with Asgard. They feel like low budget Asgardian X-Men rip offs. They really have no native fan base to call their own. They've had a few memorable comic miniseries, but they have never managed to really pull off a regular ongoing comic, let alone a TV show. Looper describes the Guardians of the Galaxy as more obscure... but really they are not. I think Guardian's have substantially more comics published under their own name then Inhumans ever managed. And that's just from the past ten or twelve years.

Andrew Taylor WOW, I had no idea about all of that. I could tell that at some point the film division and TV division had a falling out but thought it was because Joss Whedon was so bitchy to them when he left that he put Agents of SHIELD in a very awkward position. This makes a lot of sense and also helps explain why the MCU has become more and more like Disney's other live-action fare as time goes on.

Yeah even the Netflix Marvel series have suffered from the rushing of things. First the Iron Fist and then the Defenders, which don't hold similar high quality as Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage solo series. The Hand was handled in such a cheap manner towards the end after such a promising start in Daredevil season one. I hope that the Punisher raises the bar again and future seasons of DD, JJ and Cage get things set on the right track again. Kingpin and Purple Man, heck even Diamondback were greater villains than the Hand in the end. :(

Laura Sarah, that's cool. It's the way that they direct these powered people, like they are either uncaring or too incapable with their powers... the small nuances of a character that are challenged in an odd way as the writer searches for an angle they don't quite grasp. As someone who likes Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. even when the world seems to not agree with me, i will reserve the same treatment to Inhumans and actually make up my mind after watching it. Sometimes when the critic is harsh, i end up enjoying the product more, since i watch it with low, if not zero expectations. The fact that it sold poorly as a feature event does not mean the entire 8 episode show is bad. Maybe i'm being too hopeful but at least in this types of cases, i like to be positive, since it could make or break future projects and some carreers.

Tommy Ornelas - Budget isn't everything. Look at Deadpool. What matters is the conviction of the actors, writers and directors. Deadpool did amazing because Ryan Reynolds and the rest of the movie makers were dedicated to its production and put their all into it

Colson had nothing to do with the true Inhumans until 'AGENTS OF SHIELD' created this false 'race' of Inhumans. That isn't representative of the Inhumans except the 'Inhumans' created for the tv series. They showed up for the first time in the Fantastic Four comics back in 1967 or so, when the Human Torch encountered Crystal, who was an elemental.

Danny E Hartman it's Iron Fist and DCEU all over again people jumping on the bandwagon to hate on it just cause a couple of critics and views don't like so they make it seem worse then what it is. I personally haven't seen it yet don't mean I'm not going to watch it tho cause I know what people are like and I'm sure I will be presently surprised by what I see won't be as bad as everyone says it is. shed 117 .. nooe, these are the first critic views I have looked at, I just watched episode 8 and just checking if it was just me that was dissappointed. (Seems not!) I stuck with it hoping it would improve, but it didn't. Cheap rushed feel to it, plots were compressed so the evolution of relationships felt unrealistic (Medusa's sudden flip to believing best mates with human scientist, her sister falling in love in a couple of hours with a guy that nearly killed her dog??)

The real reason Inhumans is terrible is Marvel lost the rights to the X-MEN for film and went balls out to bury the X-MEN and mutants in the comics out of spite (*cough* House of M). Shit they tried to do it with the Fantastic Four. So they are trying to shoe-horn in Inhumans to replace the mutants. I mean why would marvel comics put out comics that effectively advertise for a competing film studio? That is the root problem. Rotten tree, rotten fruit.

Iron First was pretty bad...Danny Rand was HORRIBLY cast...and he barely used the iron fist....we went multiple episodes without him using it...wtf?!?!?! And when they put danny and luke on a "play date" to make them become friends, i thought that was the lamest thing I ever watched.

In all honesty this was never going to succeed. CGI is amazing nowadays but it's really hard to fill a television show with CGI and not have it just look cheesy. This would've been so much better as an animated television show!

Season 6 was good but 7 was hands down the worst and 8 had many issues. The ending was absolutely terrible. I didn't even know they were doing Inhumans on TV and as an artist myself they focused on basically no detail from what I seen aside from Lockjaw. Even every single X-Men movie by FOX was terrible if you ask me. Nothing correct. These companies have this stuff in comics all laid out and they can't even barely pull it off right.

At least Snyder hasn't completely sacrificed the properties' raison d'etre in order to make money, and he certainly hasn't had to retcon and reset his own continuity every time he's made a movie, only to screw it up even more and need another movie to reset the reset and retcon the retcon.

Guardians of the Galaxy did well because it embraced it's comic book crazy. Hell, it exalted it. Inhumans did not. My impression was that Inhumans was almost embarrassed by itself.

Your impression is indeed spot on, and this same thing is easy to see in many of the mutant movies too. Deadpool was such a huge success because it went the Guardians of the Galaxy route. Embracing the beautiful strangeness without holding anything back, showing true love for the source material. That is what the fans want to see. We want to see our childhood idols and icons come to life in a way that makes us swoon and laugh and feel our hearts fill up with the same joy and excitement we got from the comics when we were kids! This is the magic that a great Marvel movie has, and so they need to be crafted by people who respect and cherish that magic.

One complaint's the effects; in the comics, Attilan's as magnificent as Asgard. Also, the characters may not be saints in the comics but they're downright evil here. Don't get powers, or your powers aren't 'good enough?' Enjoy BEING FORCED INTO SLAVERY FOR LIFE. Medusa's way of getting help? Force someone to keep risking her life for her at gunpoint! Even Crystal threatens and puts down Audrey who helps her help Lockjaw. She looks down on humans as inferior more than anyone, and says "You're only human" to Maximus like it's a mortal insult. (Usually, the others are isolationist because they fear what humans would do about a hidden society of super-powered people, not because they just hate humans for being inferior. Crystal's the one saying "we should try to work with [insert whoever's comic or show they're in today.]" Here, it's Crystal who really does hate humans because she sees them as inferior!) Except for the teleporting dog, there's not one character here to root for. Really, other than "because the script says so," tell me how these are the good guys, tell me why we should root for them. I thought (especially when it was only episode three!) that they'd go through some development, *become* the good guys, but it never happened.

You forget that critics and reviewers loved The Dark Knight films, Avengers, The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Deadpool, Civil War, Logan, Wonder Woman, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Thor: Ragnarok, and the more recent seasons of Agents of SHIELD.
