There could be some merit to Conor's seemingly laclustre training. Max Holloway and Tony Ferguson went through periods where they didn't spar at all when they were (max still is) at the height of their careers. There was a priest in Kenya from County Cork in Ireland who trained runners. They used to run at a very relaxed pace in training but always did well in competition. So much so that another guy came to him from a different part of Kenya to train with him. I forget the guy's name but he set either a world or Olympic record in the 800m on his way to the gold medal. That said, I think SBG Ireland should've brought in Chad Mendes as a Chandler analogue for this camp. Chad would bring an intensity needed for such a high stakes fight, wanting to prove his worth against someone he felt he could've beaten at featherweight given a full camp and a rematch.

You can't compare a post fight press conference when Dana mentions McGregor v Chandler to a promotional event hyping the Mayweather fight, totally different situation. In fact, this was pretty much the only time Dana has screamed out a fighter's name like that, b.c he was McGregor's promoter for the Mayweather boxing match, a situation he's only ever been in once.

I'm not an athlete or a fighter. But I do wonder, with both Conor and with Ryan Garcia. Is a partying life-style really that detrimental to your performance as long as you get in camp in good time and reverse those habits? These guys are obviously performing at peak elite levels, but at their ages (20-35), is it really that important what you did with your body before a camp? The camp shapes you into the guy you'll be on the night, not your entire life before that. Or am I off by a mile?
@robertthompson09 ай бұрын
History has given us endless examples of fighters (countless boxers) who deteriorated badly due to that lifestyle. Hardly a super scientific way to present an argument but there are just so many examples it would seem a bit ignorant to claim it doesn't have a serious impact.
@TehProBandit9 ай бұрын
It’s more telling about the athlete mentally than physically. If you’re partying 24/7 it means you’re comfortable with life and have no desire for discipline. If you turn that off completely for a few months to train for a fight how does the body mentally and physically deal with the withdrawals. Conor is way too rich to be fighting at this point, that hunger is naturally gone. I can see Chandler wrestling Conor for the first 1/2 rounds and then bullying conor till he quits/KO’d. Or Conor catches Chandler early in round 1 cause Chandler’s chin has been touched in every fight he’s been in the UFC.

I believe Conor's odds are 50/50 his had a major leg injury and his spent hree years out of competition doing work on a movie. No one knows how much sparring he's been doing. Whether he's gonna have the necessary conditioning in time or the timing. He arguably has been doing coke, drinking and partying most weekends since that Poirer fight and that takes it out of the body. Chandler has been constantly in an out of competing and in out of fight camp, gaining valuable experience even though he lost his fair share he's treating himself better than Connor has been. Having said that, Connor does have the skills and power to get the job done. The thing is though mcgregor needs to not be as a stationary as he was in the Poirer fight. He needs to look for counter and not stand in the pocket. But dufe Chandler has the size and strength to take Connor easily he's one strongest lightweights in the division. Have you not seen how he easily manhandled Poirer and Gaejthe? He's definitely stronger than Connor by a mile. If Connor gets the job done it will be first ror second round k.o and will go similar to the Alvarez fight.

@rhysnichols86089 ай бұрын
Why can’t Mcgregor just have a couple easy tune up fights before going against a top 5 guy? he’s setting himself up to fail by having 3 years of partying, a leg snap, then going back in against top level competition. I think it’s entirely reasonable if he went back in against a lower level guy and just see how high he can climb back up. Pro boxers often have easy tune up fights. Mcgregor should swallow his ego because starting low and building up is probably his best chance of climbing high again, not diving in at the deep end after being so inactive AND coming off losses

Is it just me that thinks everything about this fight screams a bribery is involved? If Chandler wins - basically no one cares outside of serious McGregor haters, the UFC’s biggest moneymaker will probably immediately retire, and that’s basically it. if McGregor wins - the UFC make an astronomical amount of money and then get to continue making astronomical money by immediately giving McGregor either the BMF fight with Holloway or straight into a title fight (which he doesn’t deserve, but we all know he’ll get). Both fighters are gonna go for the KO, it would be the easiest thing in the world to just say to Chandler “swing a few in the middle of the octagon, act a little tired, the second McGregor starts throwing act like he clipped you, back against the stage, then just let him finish you and you take home $XX Million”. I don’t think the UFC has rigged fights before, but if there was ever an occasion to do it, it’s when your cash cow is facing a situation of retirement vs continuing to bring in unprecedented revenue.

reason dana was so casual was because the rumour was pretty muchout there and anounced prior and media/dana knew this but ok sure ur point about UFC wanting to keep him down is valid and tbf mcgregors hype is dead, man hasnt had a fight in 3 years lol, which obviously contributes to all of the above. Edit and sure before conor fan boys say it, yes we'll still all tune in cus why the fk not its a mcgregor fight lol but conor will be outclassed by something like 60% of the roster atm in all divisions from 145-170

Weird take with the mayweather comparison.

Dana announced it like that because even he doesn’t believe it will happen

Do you just not understand how weight works chandlers not tiny for the weight class he’s short for it but he’s also very stocky for it and I’m pretty sure chandler bullied dustin before getting caught

Of course it’s make or break for his fight career atleast, he will still be a successful human being in other ventures , but yes if he gets beat down by chandler, and that’s very possible, it will honestly be time to move on to other things

Isn’t it funny how McGregor has come public lately hinting that it’s the UFC that are holding him back and all of a sudden the fight is made… yet Dana still blames it all on Connor and his other activities that have held it up… we all know Connor has been ready to go for 12 months now!!

Connor been blasting steroids for 12 months he wouldn't even been able to fight because he'd fail drug tests bahaha

It should be Conor vs Tony..we were supposed to get it years ago

Connor should do that if he loses to chandler, or as his last fight

"McGregor doesn't train intensively".... sometimes he plays with his team, but dis you see him before Khabib.. he was in beast mode. What we see isn't all ways the full picture. He was a champ champ in two divisions in two organisations at like 28 for a reason.

From a man who likes enjoying himself on a night out Conor being coked up while he is on his movie tour will do absolutely fuck all to his ability to fight in 4 months time it’s really not a big deal
