In this video, I am going to discuss why men lose everything when they move to the Philippines. Some of you might not agree with what I have to say, but that's just my opinion.
But some of the subtitles are not really correct, so don't really rely on them. It's just the editing software's fault.
Thank you all, and enjoy!

I agree with what’s being said here with one exception. When hard times come, a hospital bill needs paid, a storm damages the house, etc., Philippine families turn to the one person who is not “living for the day”. The person who works 60 hours a week and saves their money becomes the bank for the whole family. The truth is somewhere in between living for tomorrow and living for today works best. Good video.

@@damncars2618: Yes! Well said! Learn to say no with the words, “I don’t have any to give, lend, whatever”. Learn this immediately, and do not make a liar out of yourself by telling your girlfriend, wife or anyone else how much you earn. Secondly, remember two extremely important things: 1. Filipinos do not have self discipline, so no matter how much they swear to keep something a secret they simply cannot. Thus there are no secrets in the Philippines. 2. The word “loan” in the Philippines means “give”. There is no obligation to repay a loan in the Philippine culture, no matter if they swear, and promise on their knees with tears in their eyes to repay, promising you that are “not like other Filipinos”. Furthermore, it is shameful in the extreme to ask for repayment of a loan. You become an instant ass hole to the entire town, and it may well end tragically.

Yes, you will make “friends” extremely easy, because everyone wants to be your “friend”. People will every approach you on the street and ask to be your “friend”. But you must remember that “friendship” does not have the same definition there as it does in west, and it comes with a price it, often an extremely high price.

You certainly sugar coat life there. I understand what you are getting at, but I have lived here for one year plus another year on and off. The thing that I disagree with most is the pristine beauty part. I know you lived in Mactan Newtown, as did I. Once you leave that nice and well off area. The Philippines breaks my heart with the amount of fifth everywhere. Unless you stick to the tourist areas, the country is treated like a dumpster. I am not blaming the Filipino individual, but a lot, if not most people living there, do not have regular trash collection. So the smell of burning plastic is everywhere. Even on the rare occasion, you see a trash can you will see people still just throwing their plastic wrappers on the ground. As I said, I lived in Mactan Newtown but also in the Bicol province area. In both places, I couldn't go a week without seeing some guy peeing in public on, well anything that wasn't moving. The back of their car, a random wall, and definitely don't touch any of the bushes that grow anywhere near a road. The bloated Philippines vlogger scene seems to have collectively chosen to close their eyes to this fact. My wife is the most wonderful woman I have met, and I feel so lucky to be the man she wants to spend the rest of her life with. So I agree about the people being friendly and easy to talk to and God the possibilities of the country are tremendous, but the sad reality is that the Philippines has a lot of work to do when it comes to taking care of what could be one of the most beautiful areas in the world. When I was growing up in the US, we had PSA's (public service announcements). From smoky the bear to give a hoot don't pollute along with many others. It really woke up the citizenry to respect their neighborhoods. That is only one piece of the puzzle. Another is a proactive government that provides alternatives to burn piles and constant public urination. I still love the Philippines and plan to buy land and build a house with my wife that I can pass down to our son (and possibly a daughter 🤞 on the way). One thing the many many vloggers in the Philippines could do instead of ignoring it or flat out lying about it. They could shed light on the problem to help fix it and not make it a manana problem. This is not said with malice but with hope for a change and for future of my filAm children. Let's all of us take care of ourselves, our families, and your (and my adopted) beautiful country. I hope this comment is taken with the hope it sent with.

I appreciate your perspective and concern for the Philippines' environmental and social concerns. It is important to recognize that certain locations have waste management and public hygiene problems. Individuals, communities, and the government have to work together to solve these challenges. Bringing these challenges to light and raising awareness can help bring about good change. It's excellent that you plan to contribute to the growth of the country while also providing a secure future for your family. Let's hope and pray that the Philippines will have a cleaner environment in the future.

I want my children growing up and visiting one of their two equal homelands that is respected for the wonderful country it is by its people. While being led by a government that understands they are only caretakers and servants of their country. Thank you Mia for responding. I wish you all the happiness and love this life can offer.

Vloggers can't really comment on that stuff because they would get attacked by some people if they did, either directly or by spreading rumors about them to discredit them. And this is not unique to the Philippines, I have seen it from other relatively small and proud countries as well. I helped a friend run a website about the Caribbean, and there was a high profile murder of a female tourist on one of the islands and the primary suspect was a young but wealthy European. The suspect wasn't even a local guy (although, since the Caribbean island was part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and the suspect was Dutch, technically he is a citizen of the same country). We were repeatedly asked to remove any mention of the news story from our websites and forums because they felt it made their island look bad. And they were very passionate about it. Anything negative about their island, and they wanted it censored. Obviously, not all people from that island felt that way, but a vocal minority made sure the administrators and moderators knew that they disapproved of content that made their island look bad. And seeing some comments on videos that showed the "dark side" of the Philippines, these type of people showed up there too complaining. So, if you want to have a popular vlog and not want to get attacked, you just don't mention some things. It's not really a healthy way of dealing with problems, but you see this a lot anyway.

I spent 10 days in the Philippines in 2019 and the filth and poverty are what stood out to me. I like your perspective on the attitude of Western guys in the Philippines. Making clear choices, such as purchasing a home, could show commitment and stability. But you have to understand that it is not possible for a foreigner to own land here in the Philippines; maybe rent, yes, but own, no. I think there's a way for that to happen, one being being married to a Filipina or not even married, but you put the name of the land in her name instead of yours. Thank you Mia. After making 2 trips to the philippines, 2019 and 2022- 8 weeks, I have decided to move there. The most friendly people on earth along with the most beautiful girls in the world. The only things that saddens me, is no matter how long one stays, he's/she's always a visitor. Not truly welcomed by the government- more like accepted. Should a catastrophe occur, or even forbid a incursion, I would be there helping out the very best of my ability in anyway I can. Yet, unlike America when a Filipino moves here, they become part of America with all of its freedoms and rights. Being able to vote, own a firearm, even government assistance if needed. But again in the Philippines, you're always just a visitor- no matter how long you stay. BUT that said, after considering all, I have decided to live with that. My only other concern is future lockdowns, masks, vaccines... But if that gets too bad, then I'll have to jump ship to another nearby country.

Thank you Mia for your well-thought-out vlog; most interesting. You are right: in North America with the ever-devaluating purchasing power of the dollar, I do worry about my lower income, and the well-being of the countries here. At 7:30 minutes into your vlog, the "translation" on the screen blew me away!

You are right there, Philippine, time stands still there and many will have problems with it. learning to do nothing is not that easy. When issuing money, there is a risk of losing track. Because there are other prices, people have the impression that the money is enough forever and that can change quickly

You provide excellent feedback regarding adapting to a slower pace and handling funds in a different setting. Adapting to a different view of time and money dynamics can be difficult. It's important to find a balance while also being mindful of potential threats and changes.

Fantastic upload ate. I'm vlogging out of Cebu to pass the time. I agree that the slower pace here can be hard to adjust to. That's why vlogging is so rewarding because it gives me something to focus on I love how you put it "lose everything" it's soooo true I always speak of it in my posts too The Philippines will change your life for the better. Your mentality will evolve. There's a lot of things people from the west need to adapt to here like weather, slower pace. Customer service etc.. I tell people to check your western baggage at the airport because this is a wonderful and unique place that will make your whole life better. If u let it 😊

Thank you for your kind words and for sharing your vlogging experience in Cebu. It's wonderful to hear that you agree with the idea of slowing down and letting go of Western baggage when visiting the Philippines. Getting used to the weather, speed of life, and cultural differences may all be part of the adventure. It's excellent that you see the good changing possibilities of the Philippines. Continue to enjoy your vlogging travels and embrace the country's unique beauty!

In Sydney, the government forces you to grind just to survive. Property prices are so high, they keep you in poverty. My old dog box size house, I live in, is equal to what ordinary workers earn in total after tax income, over 40 years. Hardly anyone under 60 owns there house outright in Sydney. They usually have a mordgage to the day they retire & retirement age in Australia is 67. How can you ever obtain a family if it takes 2 people a life time to pay off a house. Add to this the 47% income tax I pay, to support & provide for the epidemic of single mothers. It's disgusting, they created a narion of debt & tax revenue slaves.

Filipino time is a thing... Western society is clueless on that, as its very much "customer service " oriented, and we take our wallets to places that give us the best service. waiting in a long line, as the cashier takes all day to handle a handful of items, and responds to a question about something in stock as " no we dont have it" without even checking ( and have no intention of checking regardless ).. its just how Filipino society model works.. WE, arent going to change it.. either learn to deal with it, or, hire someone to do ALL your shopping... traffic is a way of life there.. not an exception or a " 5 oclock traffic jam".. that occurs almost all day every day at all times..
@filipinalifewithmia5208
@filipinalifewithmia5208 Жыл бұрын
You are correct in stating that Filipino time is a cultural phenomenon in the Philippines, where punctuality and time management may differ from those seen in Western countries. Individuals coming from a more time-conscious society may need to adjust. Similarly, customer service experiences might vary, and large queues or delays are not uncommon. Traffic is another well-known issue in many parts of the Philippines. It is important to understand and adapt to these cultural features or to discover alternatives to navigating daily life.

I agree with Km. Balance. I live in a condo in Dumaguete and I am surrounded by Philippine people who are professionals - and are definitely not lotus eaters, lol. The have 'nice' cars, investments, travel abroad and their sons and daughters go to university. Doctors, lawyers, accountants, businesspeople and the like. I work from home here and put in an eight hour day. That said, the lifestyle here is infinitely easier than the west. I still occasionally hanker to go back home, but then I come to my senses. And I can hop on my scooter and be at the beach among the locals in five minutes. By the way, at my local beach, I am usually the only westerner. Go figure. Yes, great and thoughtful video.

Thank you for your positive feedback on the video. I wish you progress, pleasure, and fulfillment in Dumaguete!

This explains why Westerners are a good match for Filipinas and Filipinos. While the Filipina may want to live in the now, the Westerner wants to plan for the future, even if that is a modest future. The fact that Westerners like to plan ahead actually makes it easier for the Filipina to live in the now. And the Westerner is encouraged to be more balanced and more relaxed and to start living in the now more often. It creates a balance where the Filipina can still live in the now, but have a better standard of living because the Westerner plans ahead. Both parties benefit from this arrangement.

I would say that this is not a difference between east and west, but between tropical and holarctic climate regions. People with tropical behavior simply could not survive in cold regions. People from cold countries cannot relax in 3 month summer time because of fear of cold season when nothing to eat.

Hello Mia, I enjoy your videos but I would caution against memorializing America (and the West) in all inclusive negative stereotypes without, as you stated, having ever travelled to the United States and experiencing it firsthand. It is most certainly a difference of cultures for sure, but there are many beneficial foundational principles and wonderful and happy citizens in the United States. And frankly, there are some behaviors and practices in the Philippines that are alarmingly unenlightened and disturbing (such as the propensity of littering and age discrimination toward mature forty-something Filipinas seeking employment). Living in the moment without a care for tomorrow has its drawbacks and ignoring clear problems does little to solve them. May God richly bless both the Philippines 🇵🇭 and the United States of America 🇺🇸 now and forever and may we all stand together for freedom and liberty for all.

Problem of westerners: those who have the money to come over, are retired / disabled and don't even want a family. Those who are younger and would move to Philippines to have a family don't have the money. Because pensioners are from an era when money was abundant and even a retiree still earns a lot. Modern young men are *BROKE* for the most part, governments and underpaid jobs take away what they earn.

You make an excellent point concerning the financial difficulties that different age groups encounter. Individual economic situations might differ, making it more difficult for some to afford to relocate to another country. When making such decisions, it is important to consider financial stability. However, there are occasions where younger people may reach their goals through a variety of chances and diligent planning. Like maybe having an online job while on vacation.
@tejanausland1180
@tejanausland1180 Жыл бұрын
Younger people can make a lot of money if they start a business and/or have marketable skills. The opportunities out there are amazing thanks to technology. However, this requires doing a lot of work, especially in the beginning, which may not be fully compatible with the "live in the now" mentality, because being a business owner or independent contractor requires you to plan ahead. But that does not mean their spouse cannot live in the now, even if they don't fully do that themselves.
