Hey! Very cool video. I think this is very underrated, because you points are very well formulated, but I disagree on one of your claims. One of your points is that a president can deflect the guilt towards the opposition, but a king will be blamed always, and therefore the king is incentivated to act on any problem there is to save his reputation. You then claim that Kings will get deposed if they don't act accordingly, but I don't think this is true. From the 1500 to 1700 in Europe, there are plenty of examples of entire generations of absolute monarchs who didn't act (or at least not with enough intent) on the problems of their people, and still managed to reing fully untill their deaths. The last four generations of Spanish Habsburgs come to mind, but when you look at other countries the examples multiply. What you say is true when it comes to the small kingdoms of the Middle Ages, but when a state becomes so big, and the power over millions and millions of inhabitants and territories concentrates over a single family, it really isn't hard for that family to stay in power, even if they are idle. So when talking about communities under a million inhabitants I would agree with you, but I think this point is heavily invalidated if you were to make absolutist monarchies of the modern contries of Europe, or even the US. With the vastness of modern states, the king would have so much power, that the risk of being deposed wouldn't be tangible enough to force him into action. And again, this is not a hypothetical situation: two hundred years of absolutist monarchies taught us that. Still you make very good points against democracy, and sadly pretty much anyone can resonate with the first half of your video 👍 I'm subbing

Yes, I definitely think you have several good points. This was discussed a little more thoroughly in my "St. Thomas Aquinas on Monarchs vs Tyrants" video. Monarchs can also find someone to blame if they really try hard enough. Nero for example blamed Catholics for the burning of Rome. Even though Nero was widely known to be basically demonically possessed, the Romans jumped on the "Blame Catholics" bandwagon pretty quickly. Your point about monarchs of large countries being more untouchable than monarchs of small countries is also pretty accurate. An enormous chunk of Americans believe the 2020 election was invalid for example, but there isn't much the average Joe can do about it. What I was trying to chip away at is the wide held belief that all past monarchs were untouchable beings that never paid attention to their subjects. Then again, I probably should have gone deeper into detail there, and given some more nuanced and varied examples. Monarchies are by no means perfect, they just generally tend to work out better than democracies and republics. Thank you for watching.
