Why most only pass Amazon Interviews in their dreams

Hi, I passed the first interview for a US based position and received invitation to provide availability for the second interview. I provided that and after some days I got an email from the HR person saying: ”Thanks for your interest. This role has been placed on pause for 2024. We will not be hiring at this time. I will keep your profile near, should we decide to hire next year.” I wonder if this is a sort of denial and if they changed their mind about me. It is quite frustrating as I spent many, many days preparing for the interviews. What do you think? Thank you!
