Greetings from Panama City..great video. Want to add other things not mentioned. There is a permanent farmers/produce market in David in the San Mateo Neighborhood just before the Super99. Thats where many of the locals in David do their shopping. Also the wonderful roadside vendors all over David, and Chiriqui province in general selling fresh produce out of a truck on the side of the street. Another place to visit is the store chain Del Productor al Consumidor. Its mini markets with that same phrase with the Chiriqui flag and multiple locations in David, Dolega, Bugaba etc. Thats where the local produers sell their food directly to customers. Also in Chiriqui Mall in vicicinity of the Pricemart is the CityMall a massive department store with 3 stories and Walmart esque type of experience. They have everything under the sun but it does get crowded. Less crowds at their store in Paso Canoas at the border. Overall good video.

New subscriber! Thank you for telling us about the realities of having a disability in Panama. I'm in a wheelchair now, but can walk around my house if I hold the walls and countertops. I've seen a few videos where people have been told that living close to the equator, will bring them pain relief. I asked my doctor about it, and she said YES!! She hasn't read too much on it yet, but has been to conferences and seminars where they have talked about people with chronic pain, and specifically fibromyalgia. We are planning to take a month to visit this year, and check out the areas we think would be best for us. I live in Canada, and I'm so over 4 seasons. I don't go out a lot right now, so if I could just get some pain relief naturally, and get rid of some of these meds, I would be a VERY happy person!

Thank you for taking the time to watch the video and for your comment! Panama had/has strict Covid requirements. Some felt safer there than the in US and others hated the restrictions. I experienced my first weekend lockdown while visiting Panama City in January.

Panama's strong anti-covid protocol has saved many a life. Yesterday was the first day since the pandemic began in which there were no deaths. And today only one death. Panamanians have pulled together in solidarity to minimise loss of life and because of this you will be able to live here sooner worry free because actual recovery is around the bend. I predict the mask restriction will be lifted within the next two months. Unlike in other places, Panama did not and will not suffer a third covid wave, and recovery will certainly be more definitive due to no false starts. We are all very appreciative of the moral leadership our government has displayed as the cohesive pro-active understanding as we all have shared what we have had to face. And it delights us in knowing that this truly will soon be over. Notice that Panama in its resilience and mutual support did not face mass evictions nor bouts of bankruptcy and homelessness as with other geographies. We were all in this together and together we brought the covid deaths down to zero even in the midst of our vaccination campaign. For that I am extremely grateful. Each life is priceless.

@AbroadAbility2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Panama uses the US dollar so it is one to one. They do not print paper money and just mint coins (the Balboa) which is 1:1.

We are told that the weather in David is very hot and humid in the summer. Hotter than even Panama City. How do people deal with it? And how about what we read about concerning the garbage crisis, not only in Panama, but other countries as well. Everyone gets obsessed about crime and the climate, and they totally ignore the garbage accumulation crisis. How is it in the David area? Plastic floods into rivers, onto beaches, piles up onto sidewalks.
@AbroadAbility Жыл бұрын
Hi Dovy, I actually don’t live in David and just created this video when I was exploring it as a place to move to so I cannot speak to how people deal with the humidity but I can guess that it is the same as other places. Do things when it isn’t as hot lol. I have seen plastics and trash all over the county and in waterways. Not just in Panama but in a lot of my travels around the world. It is said to see.
@dovygoodguy1296 Жыл бұрын
@@AbroadAbility The idea of all that trash is depressing, including in cities. You would think Panama has plenty of money to keep the cities clean and educate the people with the income from the Canal! 😞

@@AbroadAbility How do people avoid spending their life in the air conditioning in such heat? Or run schedules to go out when it's not so hot?
@AbroadAbility Жыл бұрын
@@dovygoodguy1296 I can’t answer that. I was just giving examples of how some of my friends deal with the heat. To each their own. There is the right climate out there for all of us and we adjust accordingly. 👍🏽
@AbroadAbility Жыл бұрын
@@dovygoodguy1296 trash and waste is a global issue and it is a complicated one. Some people don’t want to pay for trash removal. That said, I did visit a site here in the city where a non-profit is collection trash out of a river before it goes out to sea. People in that community don’t want it there even though it is helping the waterway. It is a hard balance.

What retirement income would you recommend to live comfortably in David?
@AbroadAbility2 жыл бұрын
Hey, Daniel! Thanks for watching the video. That is a really hard question that I don’t feel comfortable answering for any area of Panama. I don’t know what your taste or comfort levels are. I have heard of people living off of their social security band those who will spend 4 times that amount (various areas of Panama). It all depends on the individual and their lifestyle. Do they cook or eat out often for example.
