Small woodworking shops are completely doable for a wide range of woodworking projects. I built a small woodworking shop in the corner of my garage and build things entirely with hand tools only. This past summer, I built a 40” x 40” wall mounted cherry wood cabinet to store my collection of vintage woodworking tools. All hand cut dovetail joinery and enjoyed the project. It has drawers for small tools and cherry shelves to hold a collection of hand planes. I think your small shop will serve you well and you can accomplish a lot with it. Thanks for sharing your video content.

There’s nothing wrong with scrounging up materials. I prefer to use up what I have first, then go scrounge some more up. Where ever and whatever I can find, there’s always a use for it somehow, somewhere. I call my goody collection “the horde!!” The trick is to stay on it though because it all adds up fast and you’ll want accountability instead of just piles of “yuck” everywhere. Well, that’s what the wife calls it anyway lol. Funny she never complains after I go out there and pull something to finish or repair a project. A penny saved... Stay healthy, stay safe Shawn, that lil stoves a nice find!

The stone behind the woodstove. The oven in the forest kitchen. The roof on the forest kitchen. The living roof on the bathhouse/sauna This is creation itself. Many thanks for the knowledge you share with us. The process...the well thought out process, and the result, the result evident in the self sufficient homestead you are building. We just installed a wood stove in our house, just for supplemental heat. It has a great backstory, though. My dad actually used this exact stove as a pattern to build his own stove when I was about 6 years old. So for nearly 40 years my parents have used that wood stove to heat their 108 year old house. I happened to get the chance to buy the pattern stove about 8 years ago and have just had it stored in my workshop, until recently my wife saw a picture on Pinterest and decided that it was time. Five days after installation, we were sitting in front of a fire, watching a super rare Alabama snow in November through our den windows while sipping coffee.

I turned my gazebo into a work shop. 2 work benches screwed together only so as to be easily disassembled for whatever reason. A small heater works fine in the winter. It’s right outside the back door. Smaller than your shop, not as cool but does what I need for smaller wood projects or repairs. However, I would much rather be out in the country. I too have been wondering why its so small- was imagining a place where you'd store lumber as well as work in process and of course your tools. Oncevthe platform went up it begs the question; outdoor workbench or lumber storage for the upcoming big project. But as you work on things, you answer either in words or use why you make your choices and guessing is part of the fun. Great find in the corner stove- I rather suspect youll have the door open half the time anyway. Your tolerance for cold is greater than those who live primarily indoors.

Cali was in the drivers seat, where we live in Australia. Even checking her revision mirror. She's a clever pup! Keep those extending notches, in case you ever decide to extend the building, and cut a door through the wall, to access the new extension. You may find you don't need the space, but if you do, it will be a handy way to tie the new extension, into the old building. I'm guessing you're going to incorporate some kind of lean-to, for a covered area to work. Having shade while you're working on projects in summer, will be priceless.

I like your little stove, yours is the only other one that I have seen besides the one I have. Mine is made by the Guelph stove co. And the name badge on the front says Acme. I restored my some 30 years ago, found some curved brick in Vancouver and like yours had to build a new ash box. I have never used mine yet but it makes a nice looking piece in the house. Looking forward to seeing the refurbishing of your stove, she’s a beauty.

That parlor stove will be perfect for heating the shop. Doesnt need to be big to be efficient...one look at the size of the stove Proenneke used for heating speaks volumes.

That stove will do nicely, just a little TLC and you will be good. If you were somewhere with power I'd suggest doing an electrolysis cleaning of that stove, maybe you could do it off your solar and batteries? It would really clean it up nicely. Cheers from Tokyo! Stu
