Several years ago we were staying with family. I was taking a shower and the bathroom door opened. One of the men in the family (not my husband or one of my sons) needed to use the bathroom and he just walked in and stood at the toilet. He figured that we were family and I was behind a shower curtain, so what was the big deal? I grew up an only child and I was so shocked by this that I just stood there under the water while he went to the bathroom and chatted to me. He left and I just stood there shaking for like 20 minutes. It took me a while to figure out why. I was raised by conservative parents and the only man who saw me naked was the one I was married to. I felt violated. He didn't ask, he just came in like he owned the space. He didn't do anything to me, but it rattled me anyway. I don't claim to have all the answers, but I never want to feel like that again.
@nonsense618Күн бұрын

Sounds more like a difference in how you were raised. Most young children don't mind running around naked when its warm but depending on how their surroundings react and what they see in the world they might become more bashful and start to have strong feeling about this. I don't think it has much to do with gender, just that its more accepted for men to show their body. In the end we are all different and there is no right or wrong way to feel about it. If you feel like that's not okay then that needs to be respected. In a public space we should always expect that there are some that are not okay with it so i agree that there shouldn't be a rule that always allows it. In private clubs your rules can be whatever you want since people can decide not to join/to leave but that's not really viable for society.

Even if the representatives have a restroom in their office space, these offices are sometimes in a different building altogether, miles away from the chamber or from the meeting rooms. As you know, the Capitol complex is huge. Therefore, it's irrelevant to the debate to say the members of Congress have private loos.

Can’t believe we need a bill for this. Why can’t people just be rational about this situation? It’s not rocket science. Ask yourself, “why don’t women want random men in their bathrooms?” If you can’t think of one reason, you are not able to see another’s perspective, and that’s absolutely concerning.

Its definetly not rocket science, but the solution is relatively simple, just have three bathrooms. Simple as.

I'm a man and I totally support her and that bill. Biological men need to go in the men's room. Women's spaces should be protected.
@channingb501412 сағат бұрын
I am a trans man, so I am a biological woman. I pass as a man very well. if i were to go in the womens restroom i would definitely make them all uncomfortable. before i medically transitioned i always used the women’s restroom, and even at that point i passed well enough, at least before speaking, that i got many looks. one time a little girl looked at her mom and asked why i was in the restroom with them, one time a customer at the restaurant i worked in stormed out of the restaurant after seeing me in the bathroom… an entirely new issue begins if we make it illegal, across the board everywhere, for all trans people to never to use the restroom of the gender they identify as. trans people will always exist as long as gender dysphoria exists, so when we talk about restroom issues when it comes to trans people we should think about every kind of trans person, not just trans women. i am fully for women feeling safe, but i would not make a woman feel safe if i used the same restroom as her. if it did become a law across the board though, i would probably still just use the men’s restroom. there wouldnt be much of a way to enforce that law unless we have guards at every bathroom in america checking for ID. As a trans person, i just believe that every trans person, like myself, should self reflect. if u make a group of people uncomfortable, reconsider what bathroom u use. it really all boils down to common decency, which unfortunately a lot of the left doesnt seem to have, which unfortunately is where most trans people tend to lean.
@forgetitfolks10 сағат бұрын
You are deluding yourself if you believe you pass "well enough" as a man. The only people you would be bale to "pass" to are cognitively challenged or children. Our species has evolved to differentiate between a biological male and a biological female and hormone treatments and gender affirming care, such as surgeries, doesn't alter this ability to determine biological sex. The issue isn't "comfort" instead it is what is the 'objective" standard that we should use when determining appropriate public spaces. " if i were to go in the womens restroom i would definitely make them all uncomfortable." Sounds a bit narcissistic to assume that EVERY woman would think you are a woman because of how you dress, talk and stereotypical features. The things that transsexuals are able to alter about themselves are stereotypical features assigned to male and female. The biological features are not able to be changed. For example, having breasts or a beard are stereotypical features and not biological features. Women can lack breasts and men can have breasts Women can have beards and men can lack beards So how do we, as a species, differentiate between a woman without a beard or breasts and a man without a beard or breasts? The problem that trans-bigots have is that they think that they are able to pass with adults of normal cognitive development. This is simply not the case! People don't need to know what is "under the hood," so to speak, to recognize the "make." This is why this issue has become so controversial and why it upsets trans-bigots so much. They know they are never going to pass as the sex they identify as and there will always be people who know that they are a woman who wants to present as a man or a man who wants to present as a woman. The confusion or comfort of those who misgender transsexuals should not alter public policy. In other words, just because some women with cognitive disabilities believe a transman is a man and not a biological woman doesn't mean that we should alter public policy. If she makes a scene, she can be told that the person is a biological female and will use the women's room regardless of how they dress, talk or present. If she is not comfortable using the women's room with a biological women just because the biological women identifies as a man she is the one who can bear that burden just like trans-bigots who aren't comfortable using the restroom of their biological sex can bear that burden. 1. Biological men who aren't comfortable with biological men who look like women using the men's room with them can deal with it 2. Biological men who aren't comfortable with using the restroom with biological men who look like biological men with them can deal with it 3. Biological women who aren't comfortable with biological women who look like men using the women's room with them can deal with it 4. Biological women who aren't comfortable using the restroom with biological women who look like women using the women's room with them can deal with it Keep in mind that #2 and # 4 are talking about the trans-bigots who are uncomfortable using the restroom of their biological sex.

@@MegaLokopo the only problem with that is big places like supermarkets and whatnot would need to pay a lot more to create more space to have multiple private bathrooms for both customers and employees and big corporations aren’t going to spend extra money they don’t have to spend when they can just cram together public restrooms
