Why Naruto Feels So Damn Good to Watch

Beginning as a serialized manga in Weekly Shonen Jump in September of 1999, the Naruto show would first premiere in October of 2002, and the Naruto brand would go on to become one of the most iconic anime, and arguably fictional brands, in the world. The series follows the journey of Naruto Uzumaki, a young ninja with dreams of becoming the strongest ninja and leader of his village, known as the Hokage.
When I think back on this show, there’s a welling up of emotions I get, and reminiscing on my time watching the show brings about a question: what is it about this show that, for lack of a better term, hits so different? I’ve watched many shows, yet no show seemed to consistently bring about that same emotional high that this show brought me time and again. It was only with reflection and research I concluded that Naruto continuously establishes earned moments of extravagant catharsis in a way I have yet to experience from a show since.
In this video, we will explore why Naruto is the most cathartic show that I have ever watched.

Starting Naruto as a kid is unlike any other, especially when it's your first anime. You think, "oh this is cute". And then outta nowhere it becomes life or death situations from episode 7 on. One of the many things that I loved about what kishimoto did was he made sasuke carve out his own path/journey, have some character arcs, instead of making him run alongside Naruto throughout the entire series like he was some random character that just happens to be Naruto’s right hand man. My favourite moment is still Hinata vs Pain specifically for that one moment when she catches Pain off guard as she swings to break the rods that trap Naruto rather than the villain in front of her. Our expectations have already been primed that she’s no match here and Hinata tells them and us the audience that she’s there because she wants to be. This might be true but it’s also an excellent misdirect for our expectations: we were ready to see her go down swinging but her priority was saving Naruto , not fighting Pain, she was only willing to go up against him to get to Naruto. A perfect demonstration of combat motivated by love and nothing else

Just a comment, I don't think Naruto embodies the idea that "love and mercy can redeem any soul no matter how far gone", but it's more a potential: "with love and mercy anyone could be redeemed (as long as there's some humanity in them)", that's why he didn't even attempt to reason with Madara, Kaguya, Kakuzu, Orochimaru and you could maybe throw in Deidara; some truly are too far gone, and usually they are ideologues

I love your video and the way you described your feelings towards Naruto is amazing. I would love to add watching Naruto as the episodes/chapters released over the years and growing up alongside Naruto was a really unique experience that people that didn't go through just wouldn't understand. Naruto being raised by Konoha people in the Pain arc and being finally recognized was just a really special moment. I changed much as a person watching Naruto and it impacted my growth a kid in a lot of positive ways and I like to cite it as a reason for why I have huge empathy and compassion for people and care so much for my friends and loved ones. I read the manga from start to finish last year and it made me appreciate the story much much more and I would heavily recommend for anyone who haven't read it to do and it goes much faster than you would think.

I just finished rewatching Naruto with my GF yesterday, which was the first time she watched it. And it was amazing. Highly emotional. (Spoilers ahead) The only things we didn't really enjoyed was the second arc of Shippuden which was very slow (Searching for Sasuke and Sai's development) and Sakura (I swear I tried giving her another chance). Everything else, which mind you is a lot, was very enjoyable. We did notice the plot holes but didn't mind them that much. We did agree that Kaguya's battle was a little weak, but at least it was short. The finale was much better than I remembered it and I held it pretty high imo. She cried for almost every single character arc during the war section of the story. And while we didn't enjoy Sasuke that much (which was my favorite as a teenager) his redemption at the end felt emotional and once more became one of my favorites. Just wanted to express some of my thoughts on one of my favorite anime of all time. Naruto is and will continue to be timeless. It is amazing.

Anyone with parent issues or an absent parent altogether can relate to Naruto. That comes with a lot of self worth issues so for him to take all that weight to his shoulders with pride regardless of what people said about him or told him is something that makes you feel like your existence is valid and you can be proud of who you are. The only “bad part” about Naruto to me was that it was so scary to me as a kid (it was really just gaara but still) so I never got those life lessons when I really needed them.

If you want a different version of the movie, find a reading of the comic on here. Thanos's motivation is to bone death and is much more consistent as a character. And his defeat is very different, but good. There are analysis videos on it too.

I was in the fifth grade when I started watching Naruto all I have to say is THAT SHOW IS AN ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE and it makes me so mad when my friends won’t watch it because that show brought me so much happiness and I want them to experience it for themselves. Also side note Jiraiya is awesome

The series’ ability to give side characters catharsis is what always struck me as well. Not only do Naruto and Sasuke achieve it, but the series gives it to other beloved characters. Shikamaru after losing Asuma, Neji after his lifelong struggle with the ideas of destiny and being a slavers the Hyuga clan’s side branch system, Kakashi growing to love team 7 after losing everyone he held dear to him and pulling him out of the darkness of his childhood and time in the anbu, Obito after YEARS of losing himself and everything he loved… it’s unparalleled in anything I’ve ever watched

I love the Naruto series, in extension, Boruto series, even tho it's hated by many. But for each our own. However, I didn't realize why I always come back to watching episodes of Naruto until I watched this video. I supposed it's just nostalgia, but may be because of this catharsis thing. I watch so many animes now, & there's something about Naruto that I always comeback to. Thanks for this video!

Phenomenal video! Grew up on this Anime and it’s still one of my favorites. Some of my most cherished memories are watching it after school on cartoon network or at night on toonami with my older brother. We laid him to rest a few weeks ago but man Im grateful for good memories from things we shared like this that I can always look back on. 🙏🏽

I rarely comment but I gotta say, you reminded me of that spark that the Naruto series ignited in me. Such nostalgia and anticipation when it came to the show and especially towards Naruto's growth. From what I've seen in Boruto so far, it just doesn't have the same energy. Maybe it's because Boruto, in early episodes, does not know pain to Naruto's extent and maybe that was a driving factor for my continuous support of Naruto *sigh* What a great show Naruto 💛

I've been introducing my partner to Naruto, as well as giving it a rewatch myself as it had been years since I intently watched/read the series through til the end and it's so good to eat dinner too. Makes me feel like a teenager again. We just finished pt1 and are at the start of the Sasori vs Sakura & Chiyo fight. Despite my complaints, It's still a great show that I wanted to see through til the end to, no matter how it went. Safe to say my partners already invested at this point lol

Even though I didn’t watch Naruto as a kid and the first time I saw the original series was when I was 20, I felt nostalgia watching this series. I think more than any other shonen, it captures this feeling of growing up and matruing as you go through life and its challenges

Loved the premise of Naruto being so good because of catharsis it definitely is the best way to explain it, this show has given me chills and emotional highs so many times it’s great, but I will also say another long running anime that gives these feeling maybe even better is one piece ( not to be that person 😭) it just does such a good job emotionally enveloping you, and gives you those cathartic feelings over and over
