Why?.... Navien - System Boiler relocation

Due to the persistent smell of oil and the constant breakdowns of the existing internal oil boiler, we have been asked to Install a new Navien boiler outside. We use and explain Naviens Smart wireless center and stat, and take you through the process of installing the boiler, from pipework to wiring. Enjoy!

Nice video. Gotta love the Navien blue flame burner. Can you advise the flame colour for a standard e.g. Riello pressure jet burner on Kerosine, is it blue with some yellow? Interesting that you're relocating the Grant elsewhere in the property, what will it be serving? I wonder why it was smelling a little, I guess you'll put that right 👃👃👃

I fitted one of the first in 2018 direct from navien and It was the worst decision I even made. I really don’t see the benefit of a twin stage burner. We recently installed a 32kw eogb sapphire liquid fuel boiler as a slave to a 200G. We rated it to 29.4kw @ 45c design temp and its working beautifully. I have never seen a oil boiler stay on and hold a temperature without creeping over the set temperature. The interface is easy to use and used in the right application UFH , Low temp system it would show massive savings in running costs. Best regards Dave

We are going to install our first Navien ( indoor system ) boiler later this month - was wondering if you have looked at / if it was possible for hot water priority at say 70degC flow and heating at lower flow temp to maximise the boiler condensing mode ? Thanks for the content 👍

I suppose it’s if they have two call wires one HW one HTG - with their stainless heat exchanger they won’t rot like a Grant if they condensing continuously Thanks for having a think about it 🤔

@@markcostello2734 The condensing part of the Grant boiler (secondary heat exchanger) would have to be grade 316 stainless steel although the primary heat exchanger is probably carbon steel. Which heat exchanger are you saying rots (presumably the primary one) ? Perhaps you were saying that a non condensing Grant boiler rots ?

I haven’t come across Navians in my area as yet, it would be interesting to see how they perform. I’ve heard that the condi traps aren’t great. I might get on one of there courses to have a look.

@@stuartadams9012 that's the only issue I have had. The float in the condensation trap had a pin hole. I believe that has been rectified now. They are fairly new in the UK so time will tell. Ultimately they have ten years warranty as standard which is great for oil.

Navien has become the king of premature failure in the US. Are there other choices that you endorse? Lastly...if the old vent and bird cage was in the way...now you have a boiler in the way. It will smell better now with roof venting but that location seems poor. Why not replace that giant tank with a combination unit INSIDE? Not trying to be critical. It is interesting to see equipment and installations from out of the US.

Hi . Thanks for the feedback. I'm aware Navien have some issues with the gas range in the US, but here in the UK market the design is different. We work with all manufacturers, but I am a fan of this particular boiler. The location is specified by the client, they are building a wall etc around that and another appliance. Cheers.
