I’m writing this a year later. I live in Terre Haute, IN and am an Indiana State University fan. Our basketball team just finished the season as a runner up in the NIT tournament where they lost to Seton Hall by a basket. They should have made the NCAA Tournament as one of the last 4 in. They won 33 games. They were a fun team to watch. Very unselfish in how they played. Every game ISU employees would pass out envelopes to the fans asking for NIL donations. I felt like I was at a Mega Church and the conman televangelist preacher asking for money so he could buy a new private jet. It’s pathetic. Within a week of their season ending, these unselfish basketball players became selfish and entered the portal. We not only lost our coach but we lost all 5 of our starters who were just juniors or sophomores. We lost all three of our incoming recruits. The NCAA along with the liberal courts and judges who have inserted their ideological views into college athletics has ruined any hope of smaller college programs of the smaller conferences ever building a competitive program. It is sickening and I for one am done not only supporting college athletics but will not even watch it on television. I hope a lot of other people will do the same.

Why is it too much for athletes to make $1mil but if a random college freshman who doesn't play a sport makes $1mil off youtube, instagram or even onlyfans no one says shit? That Danielle Brigoli chick (catch me outside girl) just allegedly made $50mil and she's barely 19... some rappers sign deals and make millions before their 21... an 18 yr old entrepreneur can have a $250mil company before he/she is 21 and it's not too much but when we talk about athletes, NOW it's too much? There shouldn't be a law on how much money a private citizen can make and it's not like they're getting paid to play, they're making money off endorsements... the same way olympic athletes were making money in the 90s when they had to be "amateur athletes"... y'all sound real hypocritical...

Let me say some shit as you say it. This whole generation of social media kids is a joke. Take for instance the female only fans model who just killed her boyfriend and her parents tried to help hide some of the evidence. This girl and her parents are what’s wrong with our society. Can you imagine being a parent and being okay with your daughter being a prostitute? Letting men pay you to watch you play with sex toys and flip your little man in the boat is exactly that, PROSTITUTION 😢😢😢

Makes no difference how much money they make the school. The school is the business. Without the business to go play for, and be on TV every week, getting free publicity, you would not know who they are. Paying these kids with no limit will destroy college sports.

@@user-hq2qq1si6n If the players want to go somewhere else, let them go. We live in capitalist societies, players need to eat so whoever offers them the better deal, that's where they go.

This is out of hand it will drive entitlement culture. This is actually terrible for the student athlete getting the money or chasing the money. All your doing is giving a 18 year old kid a sense of being entitled to money to play sports of which most will not make to a professional level. Might as well not even have a school then.
@CeanStrauss
@CeanStrauss Ай бұрын
Then the schools, and NCAA, and tv networks shouldn't make any money either. They can put in all that work as volunteers, like you seem to think the student athletes should do. I don't think you even know what entitlement means.

Well even if they made a cap, people would still just pay under the table like the previous 50 years. It’s the Wild Wild West now and good luck trying to monitor this now.

i see a few problems with paying these kids big money. i can see teammates getting jealous and maybe even sabotaging some of the more cocky players. and the biggest problem i see is these kids getting targeted by scammers and con artists and losing all of their money. which will probably lead to some of these kids suing the schools saying they did not protect them.

NIL might be ok if those kids had to sign a 4 year deal with the school. You CANNOT let them go from school to school every year. NBA, NFL, etc do not even allow that.

My opinion at this point is they should nix the NIL. Go back to not paying them, BUT allow them to go pro after high school. If you wanna get paid then go pro. Problem solved.

The argument against makes sense. It's crazy to call them amateurs when they making money. But the school is making crazy money on their name image and likeness. I get the argument of you like the school first then the player. But when you get good teams and programs making money? The product should be getting some of that money
@user-hq2qq1si6n
@user-hq2qq1si6n Ай бұрын
The problem is that the schools aren’t the ones paying the money. I would have no problem with the schools sharing the TV profits but they literally are asking the fans for donations at the games. The only one getting hurt in all this are the fans. Now instead of the schools exploiting players they are exploiting their fans. If you’re a fan of college athletics then you should be mad as hell too.

You heard it from the horses mouth! Deion was also famous for saying that money makes you more of what you already are! If you're entitled, wreckless, careless, immature, selfish, etc. Guess what? Getting paid only makes more of those things. No one should get paid anything until they can handle responsibility without getting paid. It's called chores! Parents need to make their children do more as kids and give them more responsibility before they get to college. But here's another problem: Who determines the value of an incoming freshman? The recruiting sites??? Who makes them qualified to determine how valuable a player is based on his high-school tape??? Nobody can determine the value of a player to his school and his sport except the player themselves. If they're gonna get paid, you shouldn't pay them until after they've played a full year. Otherwise, you're paying them based on potential or projections which you can't quantify or justify.

The cats out if the bag, there"s no way for the NCAA to legislate how much money a private citizen pays a player. Its either all or nothing, this "salary cap" stuff is not feasible.

College athletes are the entertainers. Without them there is no college sports. The NCAA makes hundreds of millions of dollars off of these kids. They deserve every right to profit off of their image if they want to
@TheNichq

Without the fans, their is no college athletics. I want competion. I dont want one team in a conference being able to buy players because they have 1000x the amount of money. Also, these kids arent even under contract. In the NBA you get paid, and you sign a contract for years. Here, these kids just leave every year. Im fine with the NIL if they had to stay at that school for 4 years.

Schools aren’t paying the money. The fans and alumni are. Schools went from exploiting players to exploiting their fans. Do your research before you speak.

So the coaches can make hand over fist, but the players only make peanuts? The NCAA can make billions, but the kids get almost nothing? Nah, pay the kids as much as they deserve. Stop with the “amateur athlete” nonsense.
@CeanStrauss

So if you're a young adult, and a student you don't deserve to make a "large" amount of money? It's ok for schools, the NCAA, and all kinds of corporations to exploit students for billions, but god forbid the ones bringing in the most value to sports make their fair share. 😂 Get out of here with that garbage. And newsflash, older, even pro athletes can make terrible decisions with money too. You "just not liking it" isn't an argument.
