Honestly if you gonna get a Maaco paint job get the premium 2 stage paint job , pay for the prep, pay for the bumpers, trim and lights to be removed when painted or do all that yourself then bring it to Maaco to get painted it will come out decent.

A lot depends on the manager, crew, the amount of work the rig needs, how much work you are willing to do, and what you are willing to pay. I did a '95 Ram 1500, short box, single cab, 4wd with the stock color above the belt line and 6v4 "Spruce Mica" below, on the steel wheels, the rear bumper and the front bumper "Chin strap" (left the chrome alone). The Maaco in Bellevue, Washington did it base/clear for $3k. I stripped it to metal, all handles, trim, bumpers,, lights removed & re-installed by me. Sound expensive? I bought the truck for $1200 prior to the paint job. Put tires, a decent head unit & speakers, used CB ($14 @ junkyard), LED fog & driving lights, fixed the headliner & seat, serviced it up. Had it 4 years, put 35k miles on it and sold it for $9k last winter.

My older brother loved redoing old cars. About 15 years ago he bought a 1980 MG convertible. All black. He took it to MAACO to paint. Black is the worst color for showing flaws. The paint was thick and had a bit of "organge peel". (We learned a lot about cars in the 70's & 80's.) He wet sanded it and mirror glazed it. In the end, that $300 black paint job was awesome.

You get what you pay for. MAACO,like Earl Sheib(RIP) of the 80s do have the high paint jobs,they just specialized in the economy jobs. I had my ‘84 Olds Ninety Eight paint by MAACO back in the early 90s for like $600 with the pearl purple radiance. That’s back when we were doing the bowling ball,marble and fades LOL. Got that paint buffed out 30 days later and people were always in disbelief when I said MAACO painted it😊

If you prep it remove all chrome... do most of masking glaze for small imperfections can ger a good paint job dad was a body n fender man could do a good paint job but big shops had the oven to bake so we as kids would hand sand dad did a quick block and good old earl scheib I remember 60s price was 29.95$ ...back then drive back to shop bolt everything back on happy customer

Thats a nice distributor. I run that and the MSD ignition box in my MC. MSD= (Multipal Spark Discharge) That 1960 Star Cheif is fire! I remember one of your old videos where Unc tried to run that car thru the auction. Im glad he kept it!

Shoot when I lived in Phoenix there's a place called Dr. Spray. Those guys were even cheaper than maaco. They actually painted my maxima you saw. But maaco does some decent cheap paint jobs

I spent 2055 on a paint job at maaco years ago.....worst use of money ever...haven't made such a expensive mistake again. I got my 92 Buick Roadmaster Estate painted after removing the wood paneling.

I have had Maiko paint my car and it turned out awesome every time because I prepped it and did all the body work. Because they don’t do great prep work in my experience that’s what I’ve seen.

I've done a lot of prep and a lot of body work on my 95 Plymouth Grand Voyager like cutting out rust on the rear fenders and welding getting new pieces aligning all the doors tailgate and fenders as such my local macco shop gave me a price for their deluxe package of $1,800 which I feel as Fair cuz I just did all the hard work now all they got to do a sand and prep and do the necessary steps to redo the metallic emerald green not looking for showroom quality or show car status

Macco in the bronx didn't want me giving my ppg certified tech support to the public. They sent people from texas to the bronx shop I had just been hired at to tell me that its about turn over not quality. They wanted to reduce the salary I was hired at and quit and moved back to Pennsylvania in a week..I would not let them shit on my $12,000 dollar education. 😏

My Monte Carlo has been gone for YEARS at "body shops." I've seen other guys on youtube say the same thing. One thing about Maaco... they are not holding a car hostage. No matter what franchise you go to, they are in and out. In my humble opinion.... drive your cars. If you are after perfection, awards, etc... by all means, pay for it, otherwise, the stress level isn't worth it... the money might not be either.

No the GTO is not on the same platform. The GTO started on the Tempest, then went onto the LeMans. Great cars, your uncle has great taste! I don't own a GP anymore but have owned 4 of various years. Right now I just own 7 'Birds. I'm a Pontiac man through and through. Also, since it's a Pontiac video I'll help you out a little. Pontiac did NOT have a big block. The 350, 400, and 455 were all the same block. There is no difference in the block only bore. You're welcome.

FYI Pontiac doesn't have a big block engine !! unk should get a HEI DISTRUBITOR for his 72 like you did it will run 1,000 times better and no points to set or replace anymore . also i hope the inner panel on the rear quarter panel is good or unk might have to order more parts and we know he aint got money like that lol
