Funfact: Technically there's another honorary member to this archetype. Lilybot, Orbital 7's GF was made into a card bit later and allows you to special summon him from Graveyard and you can tribute machine-type monsters to special summon same number of Photon monsters from your hand so if you really hate yourself you can play Super Defense Robot + Photon + Kaito's pet robot and his GF deck because apparently that's what Konami wants you to do.

I honestly do remember them. They are along the lines of Iron Chains where they were used only once in the show so there was only those few cards ever made for them. Although since they are going back and making new support for cards like Harpie Lady and Gaia, why not make some new cards for them too? It's not like those were the only cards in those decks, they were just the only ones used in the episodes.

I own a Machina + Super Defense Robot that a friend built for me when I was starting out in yugioh, that was over 10 years ago. I love these cards, even if the Machina archetype got me most of my wins (I'm a casual player though), I'd love to get more support for this archetype, it was my first deck.

These things came out in Cosmic Blazer. They were heavily outshined by Heraldic Beast which also came out in the same set and it was a much better deck around the time that topped some regionals along with your meta decks. Literally nobody cared about Super Defense Robots and I just learning of these cards existence, and I'm been playing the game forever.

Non-ironically played them in mid-2013/14. Like you said, they have a follow up play but no play to follow so when i played then, i used gadgets and scrap recycler to start up the engine and then follow up with drum dragon looping itself. It worked as you expect from this kind of archetype, sometimes it went off and was pretty fun and for me, at that time, that was what mattered the most

I didn't even remember these cards existed. I doubt I knew they existed when they were released, although, to be fair, by that point I was so cemented in a casual mindset that I didn't really pay much attention to things people weren't making a huge deal about. On top of that, I disliked and didn't watch the ZeXal anime, so I don't even recognize them or Orbital 7 from the show. I think my dislike of most the Yu-Gi-Oh anime except the original kept me from paying attention to the cards beyond 5Ds. I'm probably discovering more Xyz Monsters now through Duel Links recently hitting the ZeXal cards than when Xyz Monsters were being released initially.

I think the reason why a lot of early Zexal archetype are forgotten is because they were designed purely as an XYZ spam deck with no real gimmick. Compare synchro era archetypes like infernity's handless gimmick or karakuri's battle position gimmick, post-zexal XYZ such as BA or Digital bugs.

Somehow I never knew it had an effect beyond being able to be a 4k beater. Thought it was a generic XYZ, not one attached to an archetype.

I don't think it's any coincidence that both this archetype and Bounzers both come from ZeXal. I haven't finished to show yet, so anyone feel free to correct me, but I think ZeXal's monotonous [summon monster, special summon other monster, overlay into single boss xyz and sit on it for the rest of the duel] duel choreography is the culprit behind why most of their archetypes flopped. Seriously, pretty much all filler duels play out exactly like that. They all work pretty much the same, focusing on swarming to rush into their boss monster, making them all pretty forgettable and same-y. And that's not even mentioning how much of them are just "detach material to get 500 atk" or something along those lines

Hey, personally I love these boys. True, they are terrible, but I am quite fond of them and I would love for them to have actual support. Because these lads are not really awful but because they only have 3 cards main deck cards (4 if you count orbital) and a boss monster. Honestly I believe that with some support they could atleast do something. I even made an infinitrack build with these lads I wanted to play them. Did not really work, sadly. Also suggestion for an archetype/series to feature in this...series. Darksea (so darksea rescue and Darksea float), personally like these two but they are not really good.
