Oh yes! That updated Tahiti Nui livery is the bomb. Kudos to its designers. And who doesn’t love flying aboard a turquoise and blue Dreamliner! Knockout visual design update! I flew its old A340 with the similar but flatter old livery and the airline is a fine conveyance with the island vibe. Inside it’s bright with colorful pillows and Gaugin tropical prints on the bulkhead walls. Thanks for mentioning it, Coby. And if you’re flying out of LAX, its Fifth Freedom route onward to Paris is quite economical. But I went the other way from Papeete onward to Auckland. Left on a Saturday morning at 7, flew 4 hours and landed on Sunday morning around noon. Them Tahitian jets is real fast!! Cheers, lads!

prior to Covid, I'd fly Norwegian from Los Angeles to Europe exclusively. You really get a bang for your buck. The crew was often more professional than that of other budget carriers servicing the US. The 787 was by far the most comfortable planes I've ridden on. With excellent seats and the humidity controlled cabin, the 13+hr flights left me relaxed and pain free. I recall flying on A380's to London from Los Angeles, and from Los Angeles to South Korea. Those often left me with back pains and throbbing headaches from dry cabin pressure. Over the years, I realized the savings on my base fare was so great that I could afford the Premier seats. Norwegian's Premier Seats was more like Business Class on other major carriers. They offered one free alcoholic drink, fine dining, recliner-leather seats with elevated foot rests, and complementary headphones. It was amazing and made the flights to Europe all the more pleasant. So sad to see it go.

As a Norwegian, for domestic flights we basically have two options, Norwegian or SAS. Norwegian is 9 out of 10 times the cheapest option for domestic flights. I like flying SAS as well, but they are consistently way too expensive. When I say expensive, I mean often 50 % more expensive than Norwegian. Even though you have to pay extra for luggage with Norwegian, they are still cheaper. However, some international flights are expensive with Norwegian as well. Especially south Euorpe, like Nice and Barcelona. Flying long-haul (I have only flown to New York a couple of times with the Dreamliner), it's as good as flying any other airliner. However, due to Norwegian being such a young airline company, their fleet is generally newer and more updated. Also, SAS basically haven't opted for inflight Wifi, where as Norwegian has this as for free as standard.
@davidsolesvik77584 жыл бұрын
SAS is currently working on inflight wifi and a lot of their aircraft already have implemented Ca-band WiFi (which comes at a charge if you are not a Star Alliance Gold member or if you are flying with SAS Go)

@@davidsolesvik7758 So there is no free (super low speed) option for regular customers? One of the downsides with SAS for me is the class separation. I've seen more airplanes in the last few months than any year before, but my situation is a bit unusual. I live at about 2 km distance from a military airbase, so it's mostly F-16 traffic with the occasional new F-35. And when the F-35s were being delivered there was a fair bit of C-130 Hercules traffic going around, a few of them actually passing straight over my house at low altitude. Normally I'd miss a lot of that while at the office but due to working from home I had a good view on both landing and departures for one of their runways. On clear sky days in the past normally it'd be pretty rare not to see one more high up sets of contrails, these days you actually have to look for it and even then I typically only see one set of them.

The conclusion of why Norwegian “failed” is drawn way to quickly in this video. There should have been done more background research on its operating cost and especially the cost of Norwegians expansion. The fact is that Norwegian Long-haul only made a profit on a few selected routes such as LGW-JFK and LGW-LAX, most of the other routes were making huge loses. This caused Norwegian to shut down all of the long-haul routes from Denmark and Sweden, as well as many other routes (London - Singapore is one example). Some of the points made in the video are also wrong, Norwegian didn’t for the most part, rebook on other airlines or cancel flights, but wet-leased other planes and slowed down the expansion when the problems with the 787 arose. Another factor not taken into account is the huge cost of expansion Norwegian has had, and the huge number of routes that failed in different markets. Everyone knows that expanding into new markets is costly and Norwegian rushed into too many new markets simultaneously. Its operations in Argentina was a massive failure, the “short” long-haul routes with 737s to secondary airports in the US from Scotland, Ireland and Norway was a failure, and many of the crew bases in Spain had to be shut down due to losses and to rapid expansion. However, it is no secret that the problems with the 787s and 737-MAX planes increased the operating costs and affected the profits negatively. But the conclusion and narrative of this video are too one-sided failing to take into account other factors such as the too rapid expansion into too many markets at the same time. The numbers on this expansion are objectively showed to have a huge negative impact on the profits both in the annual report from Norwegian but also the traffic numbers provided by different airports. The fact that only a few of the long-haul routes were profitable also contradicts the narrative of Norwegian as a successful long-haul airline.

you most definitely have a huge point that this video misses, i also thought that the title is either too one sided or incorrect, that norweigan failed, i think it also shows why it was a success, but yes they did grow somewhat fast in my opinion...and i'm not an armchair airline ceo-but along with numerous route failures, the above mentioned response does encapsulate a more correct reality.....the engine issue due to rr as well as the 737 max, and on top of that the covid 19 crisis has been the perfect storm not just for llc's but also all of the largest airlines on earth, as well as all aircraft manufacturers which also affect the millions of those working across all indurstry directly and indectly supported through ancillary businesses, the end of the a380 and the 747-8-i hope norwegian, and all llc's make it along with large ones, but they'll all be strategically much smaller......

Well they're going to be much smaller. They fired a lot of their staff and some of their subsidiaries still went bankrupt. They're far from safe.

They got the smallest bailout of any airline. The Norwegian government gave almost no help. I know this because I am an investor ;)

Norwegian was not saved by the government. Norwegian is on the verge of bankruptcy. The government wasted money on an airline that was already failing with their huge debts. I hope the airline goes bankrupt. It’s such a trash airline that is not contributing Norways economy. Most of their staff is foreign. The planes are foreign. Most of the airline is also set in different countries with their foreign branches.

Norwegian will survive. The airline is very respected in Norway, so the government will likely bail them out or even buy it if it's necessary for their survival. They are still waiting on their Boeng 737-MAX check as well.

We flew to New York from Stockholm really cheap and it was with the Dreamliner. Was impressed of the screens, big windows, cool lighting that changed throughout the flight depending on time of the day. It was awsome over all. I will really miss it if it goes bankrupt since i have flown with Norwegian more than 70 times😔 Pray for Norwegian!! Maybe they have not done best in some areas in the past when it comes to borrowing or structure of bussiness model but: i found custumer service, comfort, great prices, well payed pilots and staff and really great quality they provided and also shows a lot of respect and professionalism to all people

I've flew Norwegian in Jan 2018 from Edinburgh to New York Stewart, it was a bargain price but was still short enough to not need any frills. They've since dropped that route, which surprised me at the time, but may have been due to 787s being out of service. I hope they survive, I liked them. I've flown short haul with them too.

Last August, I flew on one of their Boeing 737 Max 8 jets back in August 2019, after landing a $99 fare from Providence, Rhode Island to Dublin, Ireland. The airplane was very clean and very modern looking, but also very empty. I think that probably only one-third of the seats were filled, which meant that people were able to take turns laying down. The accommodation was very bare bones, and meals, checked bags, blankets, and other novelties costed money, which is definitely to be expected in booking a two digit fare across the Atlantic. The seats were also hard as a rock, as they were basically just plastic slabs covered by leather. On a positive the folks at the front desk were pretty lenient with their carry-on baggage policy, and all of my interactions with the flight attendants/staff were positive, so I can't say I had any issues with that, and considering how affordable the fare was, I'm definitely not complaining.

I have flown Norwegian Premium between jfk/cdg 15 times (each way) between 2018 to Jan 2020 and was on track flying almost every month in 2020 by due to covid. For me it was best for various reasons. - cost effective - best time, leave jfk 10-15 pm reach cdg around 11, leave cdg 6-15 reach jfk around 10 - don’t remember being late I had an open ticket which I changed date to December but to my surprise, they refunded a week ago, I don’t know why.

Hey, my flight with Norwegian from Oslo to Lax was actually pretty good. Considering that IT is a low cost airline and i was in economy. Leg room was okey and the Seat AS well, but I really enjoyd the Headrest AS you can a just IT quite a bit. In flight entertanment is free and there is a sank bar in the IFE where you can order snacks and drinks, and pay by swiping you’re credit card. Overall IT was enjoible but I mean IT is a low cost carrier.

Flew long haul once with them, Fort Lauderdale-London on a 737 max, now I know it was probaly dangerous but back then was quite the futuristic experience, I had free carry on, and even after paying for one meal and one checked in bag it was still a lot cheaper than any other option. I tried to avoid them for a while because of the "cheap airline" brand they have that made me think they were more like ryan air, but it was nice and comfortable for a small person like me.

I was due to fly with them a few weeks ago with my kids but alas, due to the pandemic, they had to cancel the flights. They refunded my money without any quibbles. Indeed they are, aside from Norwegian there are the only other two airline that have demonstrated the ability to successfully operate long-haul low cost. The difference, though, is that Scoot is a subsidiary of Singapore Air and Jetstar a subsidiary of Qantas - two massive legacy airlines. The backing of their parent airlines largely allowed them to stay afloat at first, whereas Norwegian has always been independent

We flew Norwegian from Gatwick to Oakland in 2016. It was a really positive experience. Great value, smart and modern plane and on time service. Paying a few pounds for food was no issue at all, especially as you could order straight from the Infotainment. Flying into Oakland might sound a bit rubbish, but it was a surprisingly okay airport. The immigration process was super quick compared to other major US airports! Overall, would be sad to see them go under, although they are incredibly heavily leveraged so seems almost inevitable.

I was absolutely thrilled with this airline for finally providing a budget link between London (albeit to get to Gatwick is via the world's largest car park - the M25) and Helsinki and being on the 737-800 was just as pleasant with them as I had expected. The tail art that they have is a cool touch too. But then they had all these troubles mentioned in this video and they haven't serviced any of the routes that I have needed since 😞
@AlmostMonumental274 жыл бұрын

@@AlmostMonumental27 that may be convenient for someone who lives in London but I live in the west of Britain which makes getting to Gatwick a real pain the rear end seeing as all the changes that need to be done in order to get there are never Ending if one were to go by train. I've flew Norwegian long haul twice, LGW - JFK returns and both times I was seriously impressed. The product itself is just a seat, you do have to pay for absolutely everything else but you can purchase snacks on the IFE screens, you just swipe your debit/credit card under the IFE screen, tap the snack bar and order all kinds and they bring it to your seat, I'd also say that the snack bar is reasonably priced. I loved my long haul experiences with Norwegian, and it is very sad that I may not have the chance to fly with them again.

Flew Norwegian on one of their long haul routes, London - Rio de Janeiro, just before the pandemic struck. It was a good experience, and I would use them again.... If I could. Now there is next to no competition on this route and the surviving flag carriers have the customers caught by their short and curlies (yes, I'm talking about you, BA). Hopefully we will see a revival of this type of business model in the future; but I fear the golden age of affordable long distance flying is drawing to a close.

I flew Gatwick to New York on a Norwegian 787 when it was a pretty new plane and even newer route. One of the most comfortable flights I've had. Really quiet compared to others (you barely know the engines are on), mood lighting in the luggage racks is relaxing and a nice touch. It doesn't feel like a budget airline. I preferred it to the Virgin 747 Gatwick to Vegas and Air Canada 777 and it's return flight Toronto/Heathrow (can't remember if it was a 340 or 330. The 350 wasn't out yet). Most airliners are the same to me so the fact Norwegian stand out, means I like it. Better than Virgin, about as good as BA but I've only gone short haul with British.
